Are you guys never happy or something? This was one of the few good finales to a 2010s cartoon.
Are you guys never happy or something? This was one of the few good finales to a 2010s cartoon
I liked it. Most people seem to think it was serviceable. Certainly not Star vs tier or anything and better than ATs.
I'm a little disappointed, but it was an 8/10
I Am My Monster is better on a rewatch. I really like the resolution, but like most things in SU it needed more time.
This. More action would've made it a nine.
the music during the drive scene felt really solemn
That last scene was good. It's the hug shit that people think was gay.
>This was one of the few good finales to a 2010s cartoon.
This, people just aren't willing to admit it yet. To be fair, that's partly because cartoon series finales have mostly been hot garbage for the past decade, and this one is one of the best by default, but it was still a good batch of episodes.
>Are you guys never happy or something?
It was alright but I really wanted to see Steven talk out his issues with his dad and the gems after all those episodes full of tension. Disappointed that his recovery happened offscreen.
I think him giving his dad the room was a sweet touch.
Am I the only one who hates the songs?
Servicable is the key word. Really disapointed, but I think Sugar confirmed that they'll be more stories later on in the comics. So we might get some unanswered questions answered.
>everyone hugs away steven's ptsd
Imagine defending this shit lmao
It was pretty much just a long SU episode, just like the movie.
Yeah, I actually thought Steven confronts himself or something.
No, that was just the intervention. It’s why he travels and video chats with his therapist.
She actively said otherwise.
It was an intervention you mong. Engage your brain for once, I know it's hard.
No I didn't like watching Steven hit puberty and his toxic masculinity need to be talked down by women giving him a hug and a kiss and he sits there crying in their arms.
>the gem empire and diamonds built up as world threatening.
>rose quartz is pink diamond, meaning that pink diamond faking her own death pretty much the whole reason behind the entire conflict becoming worse.
>turns out everything is forgiven with JUST.
it built up so much with little payoff.
ending was pretty comfy
>hugs away steven's ptsd
dude is doing therapy, they didnst hugged away his PTSD, they just stoped him from shooting himself
>doing therapy offscreen despite the entire season being about his inner conflicts and building up to taking care of that and helping him with the problems he's facing with people
this finale is fucking shit objectively, it can't deliver on resolving anything, its fucking pathetic writing
it was boring as hell and the entire show has been garbo since mid season 2
>Guise Steven mentioned a therapist once! It wasn't a fix-all! Stop saying it fixed everything even though he's back to his usual self! Nooo!
It sucks how the therapy part is only a small fraction of the show. Even Korra did it better.
>mid-season 2
I thought it was generally accepted that the Peridemption arc was the height of the show
So is Steven gonna go balls deep in Connie at the Bed & Breakfast they are suppose to be meeting at?
They off panel all the shit we wanted to see and some characters just disappeared or didn't get a resolution. 6/10 honestly
Anyone who actually liked Peridot didn't like seeing her beat down into a meme goblin. Even her arc had a shit finale by making a fucking obnoxious goofy retard.
It's better than Star and Korra, though that's not a big accomplishment.
Him needing to leave felt poorly explained
b-but cookie cat symbolism
this
100% likely
It was worlds better than Change Your Mind. The resolution didn't feel rushed or forced, and it made great thematic sense. Anybody who was expecting a final battle clearly didn't watch the rest of the series. It was always going to end with hugging and crying.
A few little details I felt could have been filled in more. I would have appreciated an ending voice over with some extended epilogue stuff, especially for Jasper... But really, this was always Steven's story, so any info about the others is gravy. It would be really neat to get a show set in this continuity that isn't bolted to Steven's perspective to explore it more, but expecting that out of a series that was always focused on just one character is madness.
I'd have been down for a a six hour episode that consists entirely of the gems and Steven talking, but I think we're alone in that...
Connie is wet from that time of the beach, and after the proposal and the shit that came after she still didnt dried. Greg would be proud
"RIP College Connie gang bang pics thou"
That just proves 2010 was a terrible decade for cartoons
its not that he needed to leave
its that he wanted to leave, that he wanted to do something on his own, rather than always doing something connected to the gems
Steve-o was a little bitch for not being able to control his emotions and the other characters are losers for being so sensitive.
>Brainlets didn't think a hug would be the key to saving Steven despite Cactus Steven making it incredibly obvious
FTFY
This entire show was bad and we hate you spammers and all the death threats you have made
man, you must be such a badass, I bet the other kids in the neighborhood dont mess with you
>This was one of the few good finales to a 2010s cartoon.
>A young adult needing to move out of his parents home and make his own way in the world is something that needs to be explained.
Holy shit dude
so it was pretty close
this style looks so much like those official cartoon comics that it just makes it obvious tumblr artists are who does them in the first place
Connie you’re supposed to say it’s a neck massager.
It wasn't Star vs. so it's great by comparison.
>The resolution didn't feel rushed or forced
What fucking resolution. This is like crashing a car and going into a coma but it shows them fix the car.
Wow it has the EXACT same problems as Change your mind, I mean its fucking exact, how the fuck did they do it twice?
>Everything is rushed as hell, they blast through anything big in seconds and most stuff just plain gets forgotten or offscreen'd.
>Super easy finish to what should be a massive problem with just implications that its not fixed but they show everything major is actually fine and its just lip service, total anticlimax so they can end on a happy note
>Jammed in final message that doesn't really fit with what just happened but they say the "Theme" was more important than if it actually was consistent with the story up to this point
>The finale that should be a massive action piece is resolved in the dullest possible way.
They learned absolutely nothing and just did what didn't work the first time all over again.
that thing is bigger than her, good thing Steven is a shape shifter or he would be screwed
>No, see, it was obvious they would do it, even though it was pretty lame!
>Thats what makes it not lame, because in addition to all the other stuff it was obvious!
Why is everyone shilling therapy these days anyway? Does the media just owe a sponsorship to the therapy industry or something?
cuz depression is on the rise, just deal with it like the rest of us, burying deep down inside and never thinking about it until you die
Hey....WAIT A MINUTE!
Spinel didn't know what a "sandal" was, but knew what a "thong" was. "You forgot your foot-thong thingy!"
>but like most things in SU it needed more time
This. The show's greatest failing is that no redemption arc has had the time and detail that was put into Peridot's, despite being much more plot-critical than Peridot ever was.
A foot-thong is a piece of dance equipment used so you don't slip while barefoot. She's actually just really into feet.
I use rum, it's cheaper.
Pharmaceutical companies, actually.
Most therapists are nothing like on TV and just perscribe anti-depressants that are just as likely to give you suicidal thoughts or violent thoughts than help you feel better.
I liked how casual it was, but I really would have preferred this sooner, them adding drama between them on top of Steven's PTSD really wasn't needed
I miss villain Peridot
Women writers. They're extremely neurotic and easily influenced by trends and more likely to seek medical attention, so if all their friends say that therapy helped them they're going to go to therapy too. Male writers wouldn't instinctively think of therapy as a solution.
at least 1 user killed himself today, you know the one
The transition away from the nuclear family lines the pockets of Jews from every possible angle
I do think that the original series' ending or movie made for a better ending, but this is a solid epilogue story.
THIS IS SUCH FUCKING BAIT. EVEN STAR VS THE FORCES OF EVIL WAS BETTER.
AT LEAST STAR VS THE FORCES OF EVIL HAD PASSION IN ITS ENDING
AT LEAST STAR VS THE FORCES OF EVIL HAD THE NUTS TO JUST LET THEIR CHARACTER BE EVIL
AT LEAST STAR VS THE FORCES OF EVIL HAD SOME ACTION
AT LEAST STAR VS THE FORCES OF EVIL GAVE US SOMETHING TO ENJOY, EVEN IF IT WAS COMPLETELY FAN SERVICE.
THIS
THIS PILE OF SHIT, THIS WORTHLESS BLAND EMPTY "they talked it out isn't that so original xddd" SHIT. THIS WAS SCARCELY EVEN WORTH THE FUCKING NOXIOUS GAS THAT REBECCA SUGAR WAS HUFFING WHEN SHE WROTE SUCH A BAD ENDING. THERE WERE NO STAKES, THERE WERE NO OUT OF LEFT FIELD SURPRISES, THEY SPOILT HALF OF THE LAST FOUR EPISODES' EVENTS IN THAT BINGO SHIT THEY PUT OUT, NOT THAT IT MEANT ANYTHGING ANYWAYS BECAUSE NOTHING THAT HAPPENED IN THIS ENDING hAD ANY BEARING ON THE PLOT AS A WHOOLE. THIS WAS NOT A SATISFYING ENDING OR A GOOD SENDOFF, THIS WAS AN AWFUL ATTEMPT AT FAN SERVICE, BUT INSTEAD OF JUST GIVING US OUR 20 YEARS INTO THE FUTURE LIKE REGULAR SHOW DID, THEY COULDN'T EVEN PULL SOME BULLSHIT HIDEAKI ANNO "it all returns to nothing" SHIT. NO, INSTEAD WE GET AN OPEN TO INTERPRETATION ENDING AND A BUNCH OF FUCKING WHINING NOISES FOR 45 MINUTES.
>SHE HUGS STEVEN AND IT FIXES THE CORRUPTION
FUCK THIS SHIT.
FUCK REBECCA SUGAR.
FUCK STEVEN UNIVERSE.
I'M DONE.
>thing bad because me want subverted expectations!
okay rian
Ah, the classic "drugging yourself into a borderline catatonic state is okay if a doctor tells you to do it"
>A show that always used emotions to defeat villains
>Steven all this season showing how he's bottling his emotions and keeping people away
>Wow why did he get defeated by everyone showing their love for him and telling him its okay to express his bottled feelings
You can tell who watched the show and who watched season 1, left, then came for the finale
Realizing you need to go to therapy and actually going through with it is a HUGE step in dealing with your inner conflict. It's a consistent message throughout the show, you don't have to do things alone, it's okay to ask for help, don't be AFRAID to ask for help. It's okay to feel bad and have negative thoughts, but you can't let them consume you. You can call it shit if you want, but the message is very good.
Therapists are usually social workers or psychologists. Only psychiatrists prescribe meds and a therapist shouldn't be sending you off to one without good reason.
Not everyone needs a therapist to do it, but CBT is proven to work on most mental illnesses
I don't know much about star outside of porn and memes, but was it really that bad
>Dr. Maheswaren: Steven, do you remember anything bad in your childhood that particularly stuck with you?
>Steven: I guess... I kinda freaked out when they cancelled my favorite ice cream! And then I got attacked by a giant bug monster... and I got trapped in a bubble and almost drowned... I lost control of my body and turned into a blob of cats... I almost turned so old I died... Amethyst almost died... Pearl did die... Garnet got destabilized right in front of me... I woke up with a black eye imprisoned on a spaceship-
>Dr. Maheswaren: Steven, this is serious!
>Steven: B-But that was just the early stuff!
Steven. Needs. Therapy.
oh no
>Everything I don't like is a conspiracy
Ironically every single retarded reply like this justifies the prevalence of therapy.
Nerd
I thought I'd already enjoyed the ending as much as possible, but you found a way to make it even sweeter.
I believe in Steven(needing years of therapy)
>This was one of the few good finales to a 2010s cartoon
Not exactly the highest hurdle.
murdercock strikes again
>Are you guys never happy or something?
Yes
>"hey, lets try to talk no jutsu Steven because he has some issue going on"
>it didnt work
>hey, lets try to talk no jutsu Steven, but harder this time
it does work
Wow, what a amazing ending.
downright sad if anything
Yas Forums is just always butthurt and there's always been a very very vocal hatedom about this show.
I really liked the ending. Hit most of the notes I expected it to without going full retarded which I think is impressive considering how many Yas Forums shows mange to fucking fail hard at the finish line.
Its the kind of kiss that signals "This aint their first kiss"
Also they'll totally be boning when they meet on that b&b.
You do realize this is going to become a meme, right? It literally happened in the replies for Becky's tweet about how the comic are not canon and that she's not involved with.
>that one comic where Steven walks in on his dad and Connie
There's no chance they aren't fucking banging there
But why would I get therapy if I think it's a scam?
cause i'm depressed since i stalk people i'm jealous of on facebook and then a friend told me therapy is good, so now i too believe therapy is good!
ignore the fact that your average layman probably can't afford it, THERAPY GOOD
THIS SO HARD.
WHY CAN'T THEY TRY ANYTHING NEW, WHY DOES IT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE THE SAME STALE TROPE THAT THEY TALK THEIR WAY OUT OF EVERY SITUATION?!?
link?
>Good
>Rushed as fuck
>Talk-no-jutsu'ed the end
>Even when the conflict was self vs. self
Yeah, nah. This was trash-tier.
Therapy is more prevalent than ever and suicide rates and psychological problems are only getting worse? Why? Because psychiatrists are glorified with doctors applying methods invented by a Swiss Jewish pedophile. Therapists are the reason every third kid is given estrogen pills and told to identify as a girl.
>Paranoid schizophrenia: The Post
Same though, my entire family doesn't trust shrinks, especially my Dad and I. I'd sooner go into a manic bipolar fit than let some psych tell me I need to take brain kill pills.
>Steven has meltdown, tries to push everyone away.
>Everyone refuses to be pushed away and are there for him.
>Steven is genuinely touched and backs down from the edge.
It's weird how many people here are having trouble comprehending something this basic.
Therapy is getting more prevalent for the same reason the suicide rate is increasing: a global recession fucked people up
Be grateful you guys didn't get a Star Vs ending. it could've been alot worse. SU got off easy.
GREG'ED
Why does the APA consider video games a bigger problem than transgenderism? Psychiatrists are witch doctors. Simple as.
Honestly yeah. We could've gotten a fucking Star Vs. or Voltron
