Everyone tries to prevent him from destroying the city (mostly Lapis and the Cluster) and everyone else has a pity party. Connie shows up after evacuating the city, tells everyone to get their shit together, and that they need to be there for Steven.
Yellow Diamond makes Garnet diamond-sized and they all hug it out with him.
Couple months later Steven gets a therapist and decides to tour all 39 states.

To be fair though, it's not like anything they tried to do to subdue him worked. The Diamonds powers were resisted by him through sheer force of will, Lapis holding him down with water chains was said by her to not be a viable option, and he literally arm wrestled the Cluster into submission.

I think the sound effects and prior psychological breakdown from Steven are what really make it. The growling and roars are quite haunting, as is the way that the monster just mindlessly and angrily smashes and claws at whatever comes near. It doesn't even have any grand goal, just pure misery and hate.
