Maybe it's laziness. Most of the time they're capable of drawing better designs, but perhaps it's cheaper to animate and market to kids if the designs are simpler. Less is more seems to be a recurring theme in this industry these years.

Victor and Valentino really does feel like the poster child of "soulless". Its concept could easily work and even be something great but instead it just feels slapped together. None of the characters are really likeable, Most of the episodes don't really sell the horror or monsters well or have a good atmosphere. And artwise it's not even visually distinct or appealing. It's a completely forgettable show.

i fully agree with this, unfortunately it's a rule that needs to be mixed with discipline so you don't start getting lazy about it, but forcing multiple artists to hardline conform to a character being one way is very bland and boring.

That and have to think about what the drawing is supposed to accomplish. Like if you doing something that requires consistency then being on model is a must. But there's also lots of comics and cartoons where characters shift to fit the scene. In similar ways to how a dragonball character shifts quite a bit from when he's relaxing and when he's fighting.

I was curious how the concept art design would look like within the "constraints" of the show, but regardless of the result I'm glad it didn't get used, the show is boring as fuck and I might've been compelled to watch it if it looked good. Stories, writing, voices etc all awful, I'm usually a sucker for anything related to Mexican culture but the show doesn't have redeeming features and the concept art direction would've been wasted on it anyway.

It sucks that shows like OK KO and SU ruined the whole "off-model" idea for a lot of people and is now mocked, because the principle is a solid one for cartoony cartoons when executed well. But they were so atrocious at it, it didn't make people laugh, it just made them angry.
