But Static Shock was good. It had well written characters and stories. Social justice isn't the problem with most of the cringe shit we've seen lately. The problem is when all you have for a character or story is social justice. Like those twins in that awful New Warriors book. Psychically bonded twins who have never truly been alone and whose powers radically differ from their personalities could be an interesting concept. Instead all we get is muh nonbinary. Its shit writers that spark shitposting, not just Tumblr nonsense.

those stories were well written and they show you the problems rather using an mouthpiece like Brian or Lisa to lecture you allowing the audience to reach their own conclusions

It helps that it has black producers and writers instead of white hipsters trying to score cookie points.

Actually it could be a lot more to the personality than non-binary. it's just people acting like idiots before the book comes out.

The difference is that those are real problems affecting real people in real life.
Not some bullshit first-world problem like getting "misgendered" or suffering a "micro-aggression".

>There will be no rap played in this house. That music teaches kids to disrespect their parents. It's all garbage. Tells kids to write on walls, stay out ast curfews and heaven knows what else. Tears down everything guys like me built

No, it helped that it had people who wanted to tell a genuine story, or at least had genuine concern for the morals/information they were presenting. It doesn't matter if the person writing is black/white/orange/hipster or whatever, it matters what the motivation behind the writing is.

Well, he had a point

Wait, was this the one from the 90s/early 2000s with the MLK Day "Christmas Carol" episode? Or was that a different show?

I really wish DC would do something with Permafrost. Not only is she super cute, but her whole angle and story are really unique.

When white people write black people for muh social justice, it comes off as virtue signalling and reeks of white guilt. Not to say that there aren't any black people who write crying sjw stuff, but it helps.

*cringy SJW stuff

Do you think a modern cartoon could get away with depicting a school shooter?

>Social justice isn't the problem with most of the cringe shit we've seen lately.
This honestly.
A show like Static Shock wouldn't work in today's times, but worked in the early-2000s when everyone was politically peaceful.

You know every time I think of Static Shock, I think of how he went back in time to save his Mom from the riot era.

People will be yelling about it actually a conspiracies from Israel.

Virgil's dad hates rap too. It was pretty great how they handled racism in the episode. Virgil's dad still tries to work with him and show him that Richie's dad's racism is hurting his relationship with his son. Dude leads by example.

Remember that time Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy groomed a kid on the internet to join their girl power crime gang?

>Richie needs your friendship now than ever
Got to love his Dad for that instead of telling him to stop seeing Richie

This episode was honestly fantastic written, it shows all the reasons why gun violence happen at schools
>mentally ilness
>parents doing nothing
>friends doing nothing

And rather than telling you what to do it just makes the audience think about it those problems rather than forcing their own solutions into you.

Fucking love Static and Batman Beyond. The time travel shenanigans in the DCAU were PURE kino. "Batmans not gonna be happy when he finds our how you treat his guests."
>first off, we dont have GUESTS.
>and second.. I'M BATMAN!

>Was also a good show
That's the flaw in your logic, OP. It was also a good show. In fact it was a good show FIRST and a lesson about all of those things SECOND.

Forgot to post the link..

From a cultural point, it makes a difference. There's some nuances that you can get across when you're familiar with them. I'm not saying Static Shock always nailed it ("You and your stupid racism!") but creatives from that culture can write what they know instead of feeling the pressure of being woke.

It doesn't mean white writers can't use non-white characters either, just that there's a bigger chance they won't sound authentic.

A lot of people would be screaming their asses off if this show was made today.

And then they did

Do you lads think this show would be popular if Netflix happened to host it during the pandemic?

Static was fine though, because although it dealt with concepts like racism and black culture it didn't do it in the modern intentionally divise manner of trying to fight racism with racism (aka: blame everything on white people and imply they are evil for simply existing) it tried to approach these topics with honesty and it tried to offer realistic solutions to societal problems (granted to a limited degree due to it's medium and intended audience) such as personally stepping in when you see a problem or alerting authority figures before things get out of hand instead of just naively stating problems exist and demanding they be fixed by someone without offering any ideas.

Static Shock is what modern woke tv shows, movie and comics wishes they were and not anything like what they are.

No, that was the movie "Our Friend Martin"

Reminder that this show went nowhere, and Black Panther made people go fucking nuts.
People don't want to face reality, even when it's presented as a superhero cartoon.

I remember watching that in elementary school and liking it. Does it still hold up?

>pan-africanism
What a fucking joke

>Imagine the shitposting
There was like a solid six months of "YOU AND YOUR STUPID RACISM" and "JIMMY NO!" shitposting already.

Don't need to imagine it, we lived it

Wasn't that the one in which some kids go back in time to save MLK life but that alters the timeline so that segregation never ends?

Supposedly it didn't keep going because the merch wasn't selling all that well. Even the GBA game got cancelled. Damn shame too.

Attached: Static Shock GBA.jpg (316x316, 29.8K)

When you're from a racial group that's been systemically deprived of their singular cultural identity for a few centuries, it makes sense that you and others seeking your roots would try to construct an idea of that identity from scratch, since you don't have much to go on about your actual cultural history.

Pan-Africanism is one of many expressions of that idea.

Yes. In the alternate timeline Martin Luther King High School becomes Robert E. Lee High School.

>Social justice isn't the problem with most of the cringe shit we've seen lately.
Agreed, its just fucking stupid. As bad as some of the episodes got, its worth noting they tried harder to write better, more cohesive and character consistent stories when they touched on those topics, it was shit like the Little Wayne cameo episode or the Nsync guy cameo that got the downright shitty writing and thats fine. The problem is when they both want you to take their work seriously and think about the subjects they're depicting, but then fold and screech when you point out their plot doesn't make sense, characters bent at 90 degree angles to make the dumb plot happen at all, and nothing about it is well made or crafted.

Too many social justice writers got taught to preach instead of how to make a consistent and well crafted story, and its soured people on what should be any other tool in the toolbox. Your story isn't more important because it talks about being a black kid, but it can use that to be a better story overall.

Sad how it's always guns are bad these days. More shows need to explain that it's issues other than the gun itself.

The show didn’t have merch. Toy companies thought black toys wouldn’t sell even though the show was popular.

probably the best handling of racism in any show
>virgil gives richies dad every chance: my dad doesnt like rap, my dad is a hardass too, he's just tired
>even then it isnt all about virgil and how he was hurt
>it was about how racism hurt richie, he's embarrassed and ashamed because virgil is his best friend and virgil's dad is also nothing but nice to him

Didn't they plan on having her die while they made off?

static could be remade today and Yas Forums would shit on it. it gets a pass because its a show that you used t watch as a kid

If she didn't cooperate.

Give it another watch. I binge watched it a couple months ago and it still holds up fantastic. The animation is a little choppy sometimes and the dialogue is sometimes cheesy, but it's still a pretty solid show.

Attached: static vs rubber band man.jpg (800x600, 85.7K)

i think it was a great show, im just stating the obvious

Ah yeah the racist dad episode. Richie told his dad to STFU.

I could have sworn the ending was them trying to leave her for dead while they tried to escape with the goods.

>tfw Richie said he almost got a bullet on his penis
I still am in awe he even implied that.

She didn't cooperate.

Alright then. Still seems in character for them to use and abuse some kid considering they're both cruel and insane.

>You and your stupid racism!
What's wrong with that?

>these days.
They were like that 30 years ago.

I forgot how old this show was. It's almost thirty.

Anti gun messages were hardly even keeled in the 90s is what I meant.

>static could be remade today and Yas Forums would shit on it.
It would shit on a couple episodes, especially the celebrity episodes which are just as bad as any late Simpsons celeb episode, but not being a linear story and self contained adventures would give it a fuckload of leeway.

user, this is Marvel we're talking about here, Modern Marvel at that. The chance of them coming out as decent characters and not America Chavez-tier abominations are slim to none.

Its just like the line "It hurts! Its not like on TV!" like yeah thats probably accurate but that sounds really stupid to say it like that, makes you sound more silly than serious
