CASTLEVANIA IS NOT AN ANIME
BOONDOCKS IS NOT AN ANIME
AVATAR IS NOT AN ANIME
SAMURAI JACK IS NOT AN ANIME
ALL ANIME ARE CARTOONS
NOT ALL CARTOONS ARE ANIME (unless you're in Japan)
IF ITS WESTERN ITS NOT ANIME
We did used to call animation from Japan, Japanimation, but it didn't roll off the tongue as well as anime.
thank god for weebs with disposable cash.
Honestly good
Even if we start off with the pusedo-anime thing that's happening now that will eventually turn to projects like Primal which have an American flair to them and have our own form of adult animation that isn't just trying to hone in on what Japan does
This can only be a good thing to see the medium develop from beyond the Disney and Hanna Barbera-esque kid fare that has plagued the medium for almost its entire existence
Hopefully this mean we get more action and drama orientated stuff and less adult "humor" seth macfarlane shit.
>We did used to call animation from Japan, Japanimation, but it didn't roll off the tongue as well as anime.
And thank god for that. Fuck that shit.
I'm just glad "Adult Animation" in America that isn't just raunchy late-night comedy schlock is gaining momentum. I haven't watched "Seis Manos", and I don't know if I'd even specifically like that one, but I do like to see more action cartoons for adults being made in the wake of Castlevania's success.
It sounds better but I hate the argument it spawned. You get debates about western cartoons like ATLA, if they're anime, because they resemble animation in Japan.
>Primal
My problem with calling any western action series "anime" regardless of what inspiration they took is probably because I feel like if we go that route, we'd have certain things be built to fulfill that "anime" requirement
Like artstyle for example
Primal doesn't look like generic anime and that's fucking great
It's Genndy's distinct style and if it was "animefied" and was pushed by execs to appeal to weebs more, you'd get shit like Spear being just a generic anime hunk
Take away Genndy's style and his direction and you lose its appeal
And yes I know anime comes in varying styles that stray pass the generic weebshit you normally see but do you seriously think big wigs know that?
I know this all sounds autistic and this next point even moreso but I think calling things "anime" is just a way for marketers to avoid calling something a "cartoon" as if its a dirty, childish word when in reality there's nothing wrong with it
It is what it is
Anime are cartoons
when was the last serious adult cartoon boom again?
