Can't wait for the inevitable Marvel world in KH4

This legitimately makes me sad, especially since no KH game has given me the same feeling since.

I never even played it. Aside from the prince shota of Sora, I would never even had heard of it.

Bad enough we're getting modern Simpsons and Family Guy

Before this thread dies because Yas Forums hates Kingdom Hearts, got to say that Kingdom Hearts used to be nice. But so many things went wrong...

The writing turned real bad frankly since Chain of Memories where they started to introduce a similar group of original characters. I don't have a problem with that but the writing is bad so these are lousy characters. And Sora being written as a hopeless idiot makes for an unappealing protagonist.

The gameplay is not consistently great overall and Disney? They ran out of good Disney films. You're not going to convince me to buy new games for shit like Wreck It Ralph or Zootopia or Frozen 2. To me the novelty has died.

Kingdom Hearts 1 is the theatrical-released movie

every other game in the series is the made-for-TV sequels and TV show that only fucks with the movie.

Birth By Sleep ruined the franchise. Granted COM and KH2 started to send the series to 2deep4u psuedo-shounen hell, but BBS kickstarted all the shit that would eventually lead to KH3, which permanently ruined the franchise beyond repair.

How did this even come to be?

>Let's make a game where Disney and Final Fantasy characters duke it out against our own FF, inspired OCS

Attached: 1579209293059.jpg (660x574, 30.86K)

It was literally an elevator pitch Nomura gave to a disney exec

Good. Half of the game was shit.
>really slow start
>Tarzan was the most backtracking I've ever seen in a game
>Little Mermaid was a complete mess
>only Nightmare Before Christmas and Hollow Bastion at the end are memorable
At this point I'm convinced Yas Forums and Kingdom Hearts fags just played the first when they were like 12 and haven't stopped nostalgiafagging.

I skipped one because I couldn't figure out the Tarzan world

At least KH1 had a sense of fun and wonder, like a classic Disney movie.

Then the series became a schizophrenic clusterfuck that thinks it's a battle shounen.

Can't be worse than the pirates of the Caribbean world

I get depressed every day when I consider how I'll never see the angriest motherfucker in the universe on the big screen.

Two has a Dodge button

to me, they should have made a crossover with disney channel to recover.
I would have loved to actually explore gravity falls or mewny, maybe actually fight some baddies there.
going from lilo & stitch to phineas and ferb, from recess to kim possible.
sora would had made truly interesting new party members if he ever went to worthy disney worlds.
in fact, the only way I could see KH coming back full force is if they decide to make a spin-off adventure of sora alone going through disney channel world

You mean for the first time? Because you can always just play the game again. It still exists.

>Random "Let It Go" musical number for no reason other than to shill the movie even more.
>Later the hero's girlfriend is "killed" in front of him by the main villain, who then proceeds to gain zero comeuppance yet we're supposed to be happy.

>Gravity Falls
Too bad Hirsch hates KH.

I can't complain enough about the Frozen world. You spend maybe 5 minutes actually interacting with any of the characters, and have no involvement in the plot. You're just there to fight some monsters then fuck off.

>But so many things went wrong...
This. There are a lot of problems, but the root of them all is simple: No matter what happens or what villain is defeated, it's all a part of the plan of an even BIGGER villain.

>defeats ansem
>that was all part of marluxia's plan to get him to castle oblivion
>defeats marluxia
>it was all part of the plan set by xemnas so that marluxia would get killed and he could have more control over roxas
>xemnas loses control of roxas and sora wakes up
>no big deal, sora will keep doing the job for free
>defeats xemnas
>all part of OG xehanort's time travel plan
>stop's og xehanort from taking sora's body and recruits more keyblade masters
>lol, I didn't really need it anyway, having more good guys around helps me
>defeats xehanort's army of time traveling bad guys knowing that he needs them all to be defeated for his plan to work
>finally defeats xehanort
>it was all part of the master of master's plan that was set up before any of the characters were even born

Re:Coded is literally the only game in the franchise where defeating the final boss isn't part of some other villain's plan.

Attached: KINGDOMHEART_B8CE001.png (240x160, 9.65K)

It was neat having the snow golem out of everyone as the party member.

Yeah, for maybe 10 minuets of gameplay and one boss.

>At this point I'm convinced Yas Forums and Kingdom Hearts fags just played the first when they were like 12 and haven't stopped nostalgiafagging.
It's partly that, but I've played recently and still enjoy it. I'm the first to admit it's clunky as shit, but I enjoy it.

he is disney bitch, I doubt they will give a fuck about what he has to say when millions of dollars are in the horizont.

Best character

Attached: Ansem SoD.png (938x481, 358.38K)

I kinda wanna see a Darkwing Duck world.

Anyone else not like the exaggerated amount of original characters in the cast? To me the only ones who matter are Sora and Riku. Sora because his adventures involve Donald and Goofy. Riku's bro is Mickey. Kairi is garbage that was killed off twice and revived twice despite not being a good character and it takes too much shit writing even for Nomura for her to be useful so the series could do without her.

The other characters? They're not good and a chunk of them are clone characters. It feels like inventing so many Original Characters has created a loss of focus. And if they made games about these characters like Lea or another Roxas game? I wouldn't be interested in playing because I don't care about them. And another thing, the other characters don't gel well with Disney the way Sora does.

>hold me, whatever lies beyond this morning is a little later on

i loved it when it came out but i recently tried final mix... god what a fucking slog that game is. not the slightest bit fun

Exactly. Hate that these unecessary one-note fucks who were supposed to die are now forever part of the main cast.
>TFW even if we get worlds based on niche stuff like Treasure Planet, Atlantis, or Great Mouse Detective the throwaway characters will go there and have zero chemistry with the Disney characters like with BBS.

>imagine sora getting into some havoc and meeting jake long or him going into fish hooks
>imagine sora end up in the replacements world where instead of dealing with a villain, he has to survive the damn house
>imagine sora getting to meet the other goofy and his son in goof troop, sora taking max with him to fight marluxia
>imagine sora dealing with mavis and dracula after a misundertanding
>imagine sora meeting darkwing and help him fight the nobodies and heartless
>sora and kick buttowski will be comedy gold and so wander over yonder

Threadly reminder that KH is ditching the Disney crossover stuff since it was such a hassle for KH3 and is using the whole "Sora is banished" plot device to put him in SE worlds instead, considering Yazora is his friend there and is basically Noctis.

chain of memories came out in 2004 and soul society arc was in 2005. troll harder

Only worthwhile thing is if one of the girls goes to the Jungle Book world and gets entranced by the snake.

>defeats ansem
>that was all part of marluxia's plan to get him to castle oblivion
Not the case, Marluxia just found him at the crossroads, Ansem was a completely self contained thing before DDD.
>defeats marluxia
>it was all part of the plan set by xemnas so that marluxia would get killed and he could have more control over roxas
It's more to do with Marluxia's hubris in thinking he could control Sora, Xemnas just had to sit back and watch him fail.
>defeats xemnas
>all part of OG xehanort's time travel plan
Not really, he had to go to a fallback plan because Sora fucked up his original plan.

"You never know who'll run into next..."

I still get the feels for this. Though I wonder to keep up with the tagline? Since it's no mystery that this is a Disney themed series what other Non-Disney properties would you like to see Sora run into in a game? Call it dull, but Sonic since Sonic officially showed up in Wreck It Ralph and I'm sure Sonic's world can be an interesting one.

leave that shit in the 00s

>Fish Hooks
>Replacements
>Kick Buttowski

I was pretty disappointed in that game man. I wish I had experienced something else at that young tender age instead but the hype sucked me in. I could have had Shadow Hearts.

Really the main problems with the series is Disney's hold on it and Nomura having his head up his ass when it comes to writing

KH1 was the only time the franchise felt organic and had a heart, pardon the word choice. Lackluster FF representation aside it felt like a real crossover that treated both brands with respect

Now? It's even more an excuse to push Disney products with little to no thought behind other than "this is the new thing, promote it so it can also promote this other newer thing from the same property" with OCs thrown in and forgotten within the next game, and at this point I'm convinced most of KHs OCs are just scrapped FF characters that otherwise couldn't exist.

The absolute worst part of it is, no matter how much I bitch and moan, I still kinda like the premise and see its potential. A celebration of not just Disney from all eras, or of Square Enix, but in a deeper a celebration of animation as a whole. Characters brought to life from ink and pixels, the east and west coming together in harmony to show that both regions have something special to offer.

Instead we get overly complicated plots with characters we don't care about, and the whole crossover aspect is just a marketing ploy for other things their respective companies would rather you payed attention to.

It's going to be interesting, if they thought Frozen was difficult to work with, Marvel's autism and obsession with brand synergy is going to drive the devs up a wall.

Don't get excited. They're just humans wearing masks

For fuck's sakes, I don't even like fur shit, but I'd actually welcome some OC anthro characters just to make the universe more interesting.

For as much as KH likes to jerk off its own lore, we don't know anything about the original worlds it creates or the characters roles in it outside of vague "deepest lore wild ride" bullshit.

>tfw no Duck comics world

That's disappointing.

>Thinking SE has the power to say "no more Disney characters"
Disney is the one that wears the pants and fronts the bill in this relationship, they're not going anywhere

Attached: 1576438766445.jpg (512x512, 40.96K)

There is going to be a Zootopia world in KH4 with Sora turning into a full furry though.

I played Kingdom Hearts for the first time when I was in my twenties.
It was really easy to tell how dog shit of a game it is. Controls were absolute rubbish, the camera was janky and loved to sit behind objects that would obscure the action, and the plot was a mess.
I forced my way through the entire thing, wondering when I'd understand why it became such a part of the cultural zeitgeist and even to this day my explanation is a shrug and, "I don't know, man, Disneyshit."

daily reminder Yas Forums
youtube.com/watch?v=nCZs29IAu3c

>The writing turned bad
Implying that it wasn't bad in the first place
It's a literal themepark of Disney movies where your involvement doesn't change the narrative of those whatsoever.

That's probably going to happen, but I meant an original character that happens to be anthro. Preferably female.

>Disney will never acknowledge KH.
>Disney will never actually being the series to greatness.
>There will never be a proper KH show.

KH1 the writing was passable enough.
It was just a story of a kid looking for his friends and wanting to go home, and the little twists it had didn't feel too out of place or jarring

It wasn't until CoM and KH2 did shit go off the rails and have since only dived deeper.

I think the real problem is that the OC characters are their own thing while Disney are their own thing. KH 1 and 2 are good because the OC and Disney combine together which is what people want.

>Kid looking for his friends and wanting to go home
Honestly, if they just stuck with this as the sole premise of the franchise and worked with more than just Disney and had Sora exploring through worlds of other video game and cartoon franchises as he continues to try to figure out a way home, it'd be great.
Like Sliders, but instead of different universes, it's different franchises. Like the Smash Bros of Action RPGs.

Attached: 1541117986052.jpg (900x1200, 111.21K)

I hear people say KH is a like a battle shounen a lot, and frankly while I understand that superficially, most shounen are far better than KH in terms of their storytelling.

At least some of the fights are interesting in something like One Piece or Dragon Ball Z, with clear stakes between the characters. Most KH fights can be summed up as "good guys fight bad guys because that's just what good guys do"

Attached: 1561692530667.png (785x668, 259.2K)

I dunno man, everyone who likes it seems to be really into the OC characters, or at least that's the impression they give.

Which I think is pretty funny, the writing literally reads like any of those weird fanfics that has a self-insert crossing over with whatever dumb shit the author likes.

If something like Sonichu had a AAA budget game, I think it would play out very similar to KH.

Man, I was so excited for this game! Remember seeing the commercial for the first time on an airplane of all things, thinking "the fuck is this shit? Looks gay!" but the more I thought about these weird clips the more I was intrigued, scowering the internet for news, images, etc.

And when I finally got the game... it was all I had hoped for and more! Man, I was so invested into it, so enthralled by the story, just, wow!

Even later on when I tried the PS4 release of it, it still felt good to play compared to any of the sequels. I know KHII is considered the pinnacle in terms of combat, and I believe them, but there just wasn't this sense of exploration and discovery that KHI had. KHII was just big empty arenas to fight in (Agrabah is the best comparison between the 2 games: KH1 has a nice vertical layout so that despite the city only being around 3 areas, obtaining the high jump and glide abilities unlocked more of it. KHII is just big empty spaces so you can skateboard.)
Exactly! It was essentially an Isekai, with fun discovery with each world. Looking back, I love how the worlds were designed and how good they used the limited resources, with things like making Hercules an arena and coming back to it throughout the game to take part in newer tournaments, while the maze like Monstro was a confusing mess as one tried to navigate the bowels. Basically none of the worlds were simple palette swaps, compared to Chain of Memories for instance.

Like I said here The premise itself isn't a bad one, it has potential, but they honestly have no idea what to do with it and try to twist it into some many things its either not or just done poorly.

KHX tried to comment on the concept of "destiny" and the ethics of children basically being raised as soldiers, but it did it so fucking laughably you cannot take the climax seriously.

That's the thing, though
If it was just the OCs and none of the Disney, no one would really be into it.
It's gotta be a synthesis of OCs and Disney
The Disney is integral

>we'll never see Kairi's feet outside of fanart

You have Namine's, extrapolate.

Attached: Game-kairi-kingdom-hearts-manga-Favim.com-181886.jpg (500x511, 32.84K)

I'd actually argue the opposite.
The crossover aspect makes it unique, sure. but if it was just another ARPG, it would actually have time to develop its characters and help the audience understand its universe.

One of the bigger issues with KH is that the Disney worlds exist as filler basically serving no actual function other than to remind the audience certain movies exist. And even the ones that are regular parts of the cast seem like set dressing to remind the audience "oh yeah, this is a Disney game" than actual characters

Honest question, what character development has Donald gotten post the first game?

Surrender to it!
