I like their crossovers as they put a lot of efforts to attempt to make sense of it, even if it really doesn't make any sense

Eh, more contrived than cringey. Spawn's just there because Todd is friends with Ed Boon and wanted to get the character back in the public eye before the reboot movie.

And if you have Spawn fight Spawn there’s a random exchange where one of them reveals he’s Violator impersonating Spawn.
So technically you can play as Violator too.
