What are your thoughts on King's run?
What are your thoughts on King's run?
I wouldn't stick my neck out for it.
Some good ideas, horrible execution. A new, big Bane arc could be cool, but Bane was barely in City of Bane and went out like a little bitch. Flashpoint Bats coming to the main universe and clashing with Bruce Bats could be cool, but the entire motivation behind him was god awful.
>don't be Batman anymore, Bruce
>to make sure you won't be Batman anymore, I will ruin your life
Shit's retarded
This knock off Kryptonian bitch was suppose to be Bane's insurance against the Justice League and the Superhero community?
She get's taken out by Damian, a nominally non-powered character, using magic.
And her powers cause her to die as she expends them, and the League should know this. Diegeticaly they should easily be able come with a strategy to force her wear herself out until she passes out or dies.
Tom King is a hack. He would have been better off just using a non diegetic argument.
It's not complete irredeemable garbage, just kinda bad with some good stuff here and there.
Some of the worst dreck I've ever read.
>magic rape
First 20 issues: Some stuff that seemed interesting at the time, but is disappointing now that I know where the story went.
The issues between the proposal and issue 50: Mostly filler garbage that made me dislike Bruce and Selina.
Everything after 50: A mess, terrible characterization, filler nightmares and a version of Bruce I despise. Plot was underwhelming and read like a worse version of the last Nolan Batman movie, just with more stupid Catwoman in it.
>Diegeticaly they should easily be able come with a strategy to force her wear herself out until she passes out or dies.
in a way she was also a hostage, they knew she would die so best make her kill herself
So just let a central american dictator take control of an american city because he has a hostage?
meanwhile several issues before this
The worst run in the history of Batman. 85 issues of unreadable trash.
>This knock off Kryptonian bitch was suppose to be Bane's insurance against the Justice League and the Superhero community?
King seems far too self-centered and was on far too of a power trip for me to not believe that he thought he could have it be Superman in a TDKR type position, convinced by bane/Thomas that Batman needs to be stopped.
I was so disappointed how they handled Bane. King promised that we’d see Bane return to his rightful place as one of Batman’s greatest enemies, yet they turned him into a weird manchild that got his ass whooped with ease.
Thanks King, I hate it.
Captain Jobber deserves better
This is the best rundown. First tree trilogies, minus making Bruce a cutter, were serviceable and could be looked at in a much better light if they lead to Batman vs Kobra as was mentioned in the first couple issues or You know just Batman being Batman in general. It just got precipitously worse almost every issue one after the other post-proposal.
In the end she just gets to keep her powers and live thanks to the Golden Kryptonite from earlier in the run.
Oh my god did he just holy shit?! Incredible!
Actually it was just one issue before Damian defeated her.

Did we ever find out why Bane started his convoluted plan in the first place?
Thomas should never have been used in this way. King tried to force Thomas in a Bane-shaped hole.
Repetitive, shallow, absolute dogshit.
I hope King gets AIDS.
I liked cold days
That makes no sense.
Basically it turned to shit the moment King got the idea to make this a batcat romance book and not a Batman book.
why does everyone have a hardon for alfred being dead?
You're not seriously asking this question
>convoluted
See, that right there is what’s wrong with having Bane do all this shit. He’s supposed to be borderline militant with his plans: Concise, clear, and straightforward. His mindgames aren’t fucking Riddler or Hush tier shit where there’s riddles and super secret childhood stuff, Bane is a predator. He goes with what works and manipulates emotions in the fastest manners he has. King has no idea how to write Bane as a mastermind because he wants to write Bane like every other ridiculously complicated villain planner we see nowadays. The appeal of Bane is that he’s a level of efficiency and danger Bruce doesn’t handle often, that challenges Bruce mentally and physically. Bane shouldn’t be just another gimmick villain, he’s the escalation to Batman’s victories.
Oh I'm fucking going there. Strap in cos I ain't lubing up
We all hate it. If he had to die, he deserved something better than this shit.
Alfred never has to die. He serves a very explicit easy to understand purpose in Batman comics.
Alfred dying was always going to be stupid because he’s going to come back.
Trash.
It was platinum kryptonite, not golden, my mistake.
Think about it from the perspective of what 5G was going to be: They were preparing to actually advance continuity and replace Bruce as Batman. If you're looking at moving on to the next generation with Old Man Bruce a la Batman Beyond, Alfred is eventually going to go away.
It peaked in the first issue that's never a good sign.
Snyder's run peaked early too but not in the first goddamn issue.
>They were preparing to actually advance continuity and replace Bruce as Batman
It's like they don't actually want to continue as a thriving business
King couldn't even make his death about Alfred himself. We got to see more of Damian in that issue than of Alfred.
His recorded message to Bruce had to include several lines wanking Selina for no reason and another part made it sound like Alfred just watched when Bruce tried to kill himself as a child. Alfred's reasoning for "sactificing himself" was dumb.
What a shit execution.
And now they're backpedaling because they realized it was stupid, but Alfred's death still ended up happening, so what's the fucking point then.
Bane explaining his plan in #72 was so bad.
It contradicted King's own story and was simply impossible to pull off. And King just wanted us to accept "Bane did everything".
Also the reason why Batman beyond managed to pull of an old bruce without alfred was because alfred is just implied to have died without going through some gratuitous money shot for the sake of shock value. For all we know he retired and died in his sleep
first half good. One-shot issues (like the swamp thing and similars also good), second half and "that flashpoint batman" awful, really awful.
What ever happened to pic related?
More king trying to desperately cover his bullshit.
For once, I don't entirely blame King for Alfred's death being shit. He intended it to be a fakeout and it was editorial that decided it would stay permanent.
Replacing Bruce as Batman can work if the replacement is Dick Grayson. Morrison did it and everybody was kind of bummed when it ended.
Replacing Bruce as Batman when the replacement is Luke Fox... Nah. No. Not gonna.
It's great to fine. The only truly bad arc is The Gift, and that's just three issues that can be skipped. Editorial clearly fucked with it, and King has remorse over it rather than blindly claiming it's a masterpiece.
People are acting like drama queens about it.
I highly believe Didio was planning for 5G to implode and take the current continuity with it so he could go back to a New 52-esque continuity. They would have had to reboot to get all the characters deaged in the present.
Even if it was really supposed to be a fakeout (It's interesting how people at DC thanked Didio for taking the blame for their bad decisions after he was fired, King always blames editorial for his fuckups), it was King who thought putting two anime beach episodes was the right way to go.
Just distasteful.
*after Bane snapped Alfred's neck.
Carlos!
The buildup to the wedding was bad, the Knightmares arc was bad, Bruce and Thomas in the desert was a waste of time and City of Bane was trash.
I haven't seen any remose from him.
He even thinks Heroes in Crisis is great and that is even worse than his Batman.
Jesus H. Christ, you people still latch onto those beach scenes like it’s some kind of an actual argument against King?
Because they were bad, just look at the reactions from when they came out.
And we're not latching onto them as if they were the only bad thing, this is the first time someone mentioned them in this thread.
Pointless outside of Alfred dying.
Bad.
Especially when it comes to the slow glacier pacing.
That was so stupid.
What if she decided to be evil again and kill people? WTF Bruce?!
Oh boy, I can't wait for Andrea to get butchered so that BATCATBATCATBATCATBATCATBATCATBACAT will be pushed even more...
How can you butcher someone who’s only had like one real story and that had her be someone consumed by revenge?
So looks like bruce is gonna divorce selina by the end of the designer arc.
Would that make you happy?
