I just realized that Iron Man 2 is literally the only Marvel movie that got Black Widow right.
>mostly calm, quiet and professional as her real self and is fairly serious about her job with few moments of humor >quite a bit of emphasis on her sexuality and her somewhat flirty, cheerful demeanor when she is pretending to be natalie rushman >in later marvel movies she is essentially "whedonified", where the emphasis on her being a mostly cold assassin-type who only really pretends to be nicer as part of a cover is ditched completely in favor of making her a generic chatterbox "strong female heroine"
Maybe I'm not explaining this well but IM2 is, IMO, the only Marvel film where I can see that they actually researched BW's character as opposed to later movies where she is BW in name only.
I don't care about Black Widow She's a background character that got way too much screen time.
Mason Watson
That's because "right" Black Widow has basically no characterization. She's just no-nonsense spy girl, which is about as "strong female heroine" as it gets.
Jonathan Watson
Background characters can still be faithful to the source material, though. Her presence in IM2 was ideal, IMO, she was essentially just Fury's right-hand henchwoman.
Leo Bell
I thought she was excellent in Captain America: Winter Soldier. She had a great chemistry with Steve, seeing him as a fellow soldier who has sacrificed personal life for the job.
Cooper Nguyen
eh, she's still flirty in Winter Soldier
Kayden Perez
her role in it was great but i didn't like her hairstyle in it.
Ryder Green
She's also pretty flirty in Avengers 2
Jaxson Jones
Mockingbird, they turned her into Mockingbird.
Cameron Allen
>later movies where she is BW in name only So you're retarded
>generic chatterbox Definitely retarded
Connor Sullivan
>"Her characterisation was fine, I didn't like her hairdo."
I've said it before, I'll say it again, any Yas Forumsomer posting about women's fashion should have to post a selfie.
Jonathan Hill
>"I liked her better when she was a quiet sex object"
You're right about Whedon utterly dropping the ball on her character (among many others) but I don't think these are the criteria we should be shooting for when talking about the single most important woman character in the MCU.
It's a shame that's what Black Widow, a character whose whole point is stealth and espionage, was the one who got that limelight, but that's life.
Jace Harris
>I liked her better when she was a quiet sex object
If that's what you think my point was, then you didn't read carefully enough. My primary point is that Black Widow is not supposed to ultimately be some kind of constantly quipping, happy team player, she is a silent assassin/femme fatale type who only pretends to be (in the case of IM2) a flirty secretary to get a job done and is ultimately just cold professional.
Brandon Morales
>a silent assassin/femme fatale type Not him but that's pretty much "quiet sex object". Female spies are always femmes fatales and they rarely have any personality beyond that, doing your job isn't much of a personality. Comics BW is just a generic cold-war era spy movie character, there really isn't much to her beyond a tired archetype. Granted that doesn't mean the characterization they gave her was necerssarily good.
Christian Russell
I did not like the hair style either. Same vein as me not liking the Mark 42 look. Don’t get the reason bringing the dumb coomer meme in
Matthew Garcia
It's not a nice hairstyle, I agree. I just get an image of a sweaty gross nerd every time someone on this board talks about women's fashion like an authority, and it's honestly sickening.
Seriously, keep an eye out for it. Next time you see a thread about celebrity Yas Forums actors on Yas Forums, it's just vitiol from people who can't be in any way attractive talking about other people's faces.
Wyatt King
I think overall the MCU did a great job with the Widow, as a character. Their storylines were crap, but her character and her arc from detached professional, to more caring and focusing on her new family was good. It's much better than current 616 Natasha where they essentially try to make her fem!punisher. And her more manipulation-as-opposed-to-fighting approaches in the first Avengers were also top notch.
Luke Harris
She was best in Winter Soldier.
>Badass stealthy fight scenes with Winter Soldier. >Great chemistry with Steve keeping everything strictly friendly and professional. >Flirty played for characterisation on top of tactical maneuvers >Played up her superspy qualities - all other movies just made her generic fem fatale
Only bad thing was hair.
Kevin Perry
She’s so hot brehs and has a sexy voice it’s not fair bros
Ian Reyes
> White knight mentality
If you don't want people to comment on your appearance don't go into a profession that heavily revolves around it.
Luke Anderson
>She’s so hot brehs and has a sexy voice it’s not fair bros She was, not anymore now it's time to de-sexualize in the MCU, no female character can look sexy, only men
The fags in hollywood. Also the agenda that is trying to demonize feminiity and masculinity and heteronormativity in favor of creepy sexlessness unless it's homosexuality or some form of hollywood perversion.
Natalie portmans character should have never been a part of thor and kat dennings character would have been a perfect straight woman foil for thor.
>>that's pretty much "quiet sex object" I hate this meme
Xavier Jones
An actor who was typecast as a creep for decades, who was in a Simpsons episode and the plot was about how everyone found him revolting to look at. His choice to take that money.
Its pathetic when people support some actress who made a career from being good looking and still expects high paid roles when she's lost those looks. Pretending it's about fairness and equality.
Andrew Young
I don't see how a low effort wojack buzzword has anything to do with not liking a hairstyle but okay.
No one apart from Steve liked Stark. She needed more moments with Steve and Clint.
Chase Price
bitch, bitch, bitch Besides, characters work better with complementary folk, it's more interesting, than with similar ones. Putting Natasha witha fellow spy or soldier is a waste of time
I feel like Winter Soldier does Black Widow decently too, but you're right that Iron Man 2 nails her pretty well.
Nolan Williams
Not a meme when her characterization by user's own admission is "she's silent [profession] and seductive". She's fucking paper thin. Nothing wrong with characters being sexualized, but not all T&As are equal.
Eli Foster
To be fair it's not like Hollywood is honest with them. Look at Jessica Alba, she thought she was an actual actress and not just a live blowup doll, and when she found out she quit acting.
Jeremiah Rivera
just read that man, it's amazing that she didn't get it. Though I have to admit ScarJo is a good actress too.
Ethan Adams
Hey man, attractive women get lied to about their non-physical qualities all the time by people who want to fuck them, most don't catch half of it because they don't expect the majority of people are lying to them.
Bentley Collins
Huh. Yes. True. >I thought he loved and respected me, I can't believe he only wanted to fuck me. isn't that farther from >I thought they respected my acting, I can't believe they just liked my bod. Particularly since we talk hollywood, professional bullshitters.
Austin Allen
IIRC the Soviets were big on taking a file to people’s teeth.
Jonathan Gray
Can we pick between the non gruesome stuff I suggested, pretty please?
