>An already unsustainable industry >Covid-19 about to badly hit the retail sector and most countries haven’t even gone into full shutdown mode yet >DC and Marvel not doing any favours with their terrible recent offerings >Diamond does not appear to be granting any extension of credit or allowing returns
Are we about to witness an extinction event with regards to Comic Retailers over the next few months Yas Forums?
Snowflake and Safe Space VS Captain Chud and The Pronoun Kid
Zachary Davis
>the moment we have been dreading I've been looking forward to this. The comics industry made terrible decisions every step of the way, and it deserves to die. Not in a blaze of glory, but in a pathetic whimper.
You're thinking too small, OP, this is the beginning of The Greater Depression.
Evan Roberts
If your LCS isn't already filled to the brim with toys and board games, it deserved to die.
Dylan Bailey
It's a mercy killing at this point.
Ryan Phillips
still a high amount of old and new guys who think a small specialty retail business can be competitive in this age
Jack Myers
The Greatest Depression
Jayden Mitchell
Yeah this is the end of floppies for sure
Jack Mitchell
>This is what comics are going out on What a terrible end
Josiah Lewis
Don’t forget America Chavez.
Oliver Harris
How fitting a tragedy for us late-millennials/early zoomers that reside here.
Joshua Hughes
Comic shops are doomed
After witnessing GamrStop’s complete meltdown and attempt to defy the law, comic stores are beyond fucked
Dylan Wood
What's this about GameStop ?
Austin Lewis
They're trying to classify themselves as essential services so they can stay open during lockdowns and quarantines. People are pissed.
Jack Bennett
Kick back watch it crumble See the drowning, watch the fall. I feel just terrible about it That's sarcasm, let it burn!
Juan Stewart
Yeah pretty much everyone cheering it on will later be crying and wishing comic stores were still around.
Joseph Price
The tourism sector is pretty much well and truly fucked. Sucks too cause I work in it.
Kayden Howard
Anyone else see a cute moth in the thumbnail?
Matthew Harris
I know in Pennsylvania there's been larps that the governor revoked Gamestop's license but they very well could if they don't shut them the fuck down in this state by like tomorrow
Landon Evans
they've probably read some of the recent big-2 comics
Christian Bennett
it's from a movie
Mason Howard
every LCS I've ever had closed months ago closest I have now is a used book/vidya store with a small corner dedicated to comics and manga
Ian Barnes
they're also telling the employees to defy cops if they come to shut them down and just tell them to call gamestop HQ
Matthew Anderson
shouldn't be too hard for that to bounce back
Gavin Collins
>Why does Diamond want to kill the comics industry so badly?
They’ve been trying for decades. This is their big chance to finish it!
Kevin Gonzalez
>tfw actually hyped for a recession because i've developed the cargo-cult belief that it will mean we'll get a new economic order. (like how the great depression gave us keynesianism and the oil crisis in the 70s gave us neoliberalism.), despite the fact this didn't happen in 2008.
It didn't happen in 2008 because the bailouts kept the absolutely fucked system on its Golden Throne. This covid-19 shit is that throne finally breaking and removing out post-2008 economic corpse form life support.
Michael Howard
pissing off your fanbase isn't going to work anymore, no cushion to save these people from their fuck ups.
Ryder Young
what's going to happen to the comic cucks when the bubble finally pops? I think Simone's trying to get into youtube, but what's gonna happen to that fat faggot, Waid?
Asher Clark
It'll just end with us dying from political violence or starvation.
Brayden Lewis
My local comic shop is also the Local Game Store. Everything isn’t closed down yet where I live, but gatherings need to be 10 or less people, so we can’t even run MtG events. The place has only been open two years...
Ian Richardson
I honestly don't think the Corona panic will last long enough to have any long-term consequences for comic sellers, especially those that're pretty much just "hobby shops".
Wyatt White
ya its not going to overrun the hospitals at all
Aiden Miller
it could easily fold
Sebastian Butler
Hahahahaha Good luck with that.
Joseph Cook
Underrated
Caleb White
>>tfw actually hyped for a recession because i've developed the cargo-cult belief that it will mean we'll get a new economic order.
That is based on the assumption the banks won’t get bailed out by the government for the second time in 12 years
Chase White
If the government had any balls they'd nationalize the banks desu.
Hudson Thompson
Good. This and game stores need to be fucking quarantined. The people who still go to those stores may as well be breeding grounds for disease.
David Reyes
Good luck with what?
Michael Evans
It's a nothing burger dude lmao we can get back on our feet fast after months of worldwide shut down right?
Blake Richardson
right
Jordan Hernandez
This might be the death of any physical stores whatsoever, everything will be done online out of paranoia. Imagine it. Just transmit that comic into your brain bruh
Oliver Wilson
China tanked their economy for a nothing burger, fucking losers
James Rogers
It's just starting I'm afraid. This is it, man.
Chase Mitchell
It was worth it, all china's master plan bro didn't u hear
Cameron Cruz
The government -- or specifically politicians -- profit from the system being the way it is. And our current chief executive is a huge stan for the banker class. It won't happen (but it should).
Josiah Price
>get arrested for us lol, how bout i shut down, get fired, collect unemployment and not have Karen's crotch goblins coughing in my fucking face.
Covid-19 may save humanity in the long-term. Humanity will have to unite to defeat it and in doing so the sense of community destroyed by the culture of greed and selfishness that has corrupted civilization, may be at long last restored.
"In the long, twilight struggle that lies ahead, there is the possibility, of hope."
Landon Parker
Filburt had it right the entire fucking time but we never listened.
Carson Johnson
I honestly think there's a not totally unsignificant chance that there could be Great Depression + economic disruption, civil unrest, societal breakdown, and/or mass deaths that will make even this board not give a fuck about comics and cartoons anymore ever again, user. Let's hope not.
Eli Carter
>good sales >implying the shop owners won't torch their stores, with comics still inside, to collect on insurance money
Brandon Hill
There could be some creative things that come out of this. People having online pub meets, etc, I don't know, but necessity is the mother of invention.
Noah Smith
>every LCS I've ever had closed months ago It's your fault user, you are the only constant, that used book/vidya store is next, thanks to you
Oliver Walker
It says it all that Trump didn't care about getting testing kits out, but went out of his way to coddle wall street with $1.5 trillion welfare handouts.
Easton James
Jesus fucking Christ, I know some small stores that actually supply essential shit to places like HOSPITALS and even they are going "Well shit, we might be considered 'grey' area for essential but we will close the stores down and just mail product to customers who need shit." What the fuck, Gamestop, you sell shitty games and broken consoles.
Leo Ramirez
>Quote from LCS >”What are ya gonna do, bankrupt me?”
Noah Evans
>B-but DRUMPH is gibin thems the welfare! As you bitch with your autism bucks.
Will WB/Disney bail out DC/Marvel if it comes down to it?
Xavier Howard
It depends on how quickly governments get their shit together. There are good indications treatments and a vaccine are on the way, and there are signs, as with UBI now becoming a mainstream idea, that people are looking at the world in a new way.
Mason Edwards
Just let the CDC start testing shit on monkeys, cats, Blacks, children, whatever to get something out that works. Throw off the chains and red tape and let them get sort of evil on testing.
Gabriel Murphy
This will be the greatest depression folks, the greatest of all depression in the books
Charles Diaz
>There are good indications treatments and a vaccine are on the way A vaccine is 12-18 months out. They don't rush those cause the last time they did, everyone that got the shot got a tumor causing monkey virus.
Treatments might improve as we go, but it won't be a cure and they'll be in critically short supply.
See above.
Anthony Lewis
>Vaccine It took what, two months for there to be two distinct strains? This novel coronavirus is pretty adaptable. A vaccine might only work on one strain like with influenza.
John Butler
Tomorrow I will go to my LCBS and buy $200 of crap.
If they're open.
Robert Johnson
The symptoms are treated by chloroquine and in the most critically-affected countries either have peaked or are projected to peak within the next two weeks. but feel free to keep larping about how this is going to become Mad Max
Adrian Anderson
Well he does. He talks constantly about wall street, praising the Fed while ignoring the brave doctors and nurses who are fighting to save people.
William Rodriguez
I haven't seen any indication anywhere is about to peak. What metric are they using for that?
John Carter
>Grandpa >I found an old book with drawings when I was hunting with my friends >Who is this?
yeah there isn't a cure or a vaccine but there's already treatment (hydroxicloroquine, zinc and they also say azitromicine?) that has started being used until recently so we'll see if it's as good as they say.
Adrian Ross
That's because he's a businessman and doctors are scary.
Sebastian Gomez
What shithole refugee camp do you live in that barely has 1 open hospital bed per 10k people?
(I mean, you're right that hope is being oversold, but.)
Jacob Sanders
This mutates slower than influenza. And those "distinct strains" aren't even distinct enough for scientists to agree on if they're separate.
>The symptoms are treated by chloroquine As proven in what clinical trial? >and in the most critically-affected countries either have peaked or are projected to peak within the next two weeks Says the person responding to a graphic with a government projection in it. Shit's only peaked in China if they aren't lying. It's going up everywhere else. Japan and South Korea are preventing explosive growth for now with wide spread testing and other measures, but most countries missed the window for that and are on their way to being Italy without pulling draconian bullshit like China.
Jayden Allen
The disease has supposedly leveled off in China (which is probably a lie) and South Korea (which is more likely honest), and I was looking at an article earlier today where Italy is potentially projecting a peak of confirmed cases within the next seven days.
Alexander Diaz
God fucking damn you, user. Straight to Hell.
I didn't need these sleepless tears right now.
Thomas Bailey
critical care beds and hospital beds are different things
