>Show manages to be a solid kids Sci Fi show.
>Fumbles the ending so badly that it basically kills any chance of any future Voltron projects.
What went so wrong?
Show manages to be a solid kids Sci Fi show

The show wouldn't change at all if you got rid of pidge and the fatty.
Shippers and decompression
>Hating on best girl.
>Shippers
True, the ending was terrible but you just KNOW most fujos only dislike it because their favorite ship didn't become true and don't give a shit about the rest.
>Shippers get so butthurt that Keith and Lance aren't fucking that they try to create their own Voltron.
I kinda feel bad for the writers - between how quickly the seasons got turned out, executive meddling, trying to please fans, and keeping the story's narrative it must have been a rough job. The ending sucked but I don't really have any hatred toward it if that makes sense.
My favourite was that one Klance shipper who outright tried to blackmail them with leaked content from a studio tour to make their ship canon.
I want a documentary about the production of this show.
Nah I get ya.
The writers were nostalgiafags who never planned an ending, the execs were meddlers, and the art team thought CGI was a good call.
The basic concept is shit
Also, hardcore faggotry and racist checkmark stuff designed to brainwash and gaslight children.
Thank goodness kids were instantly turned off by it and parents are getting wary of netflix.
>Voltron: New Age
When are they gonna release it, bros?
Oh god that artstyle.
How was the ending bad again?
I don't give any flying fuck about whatever this shipping nonsense is, because I'm not mentally ill. But the show lasted too long and it's obvious they just ran out of ideas. It was pretty okay up to that point.
I have no comment about the actual ending because that's how boring the show got, I just dropped it.
I'm still disappointed that none of them committed to it. We could've had the next HIBY.
There should have been more "Humanity Fuck Yeah"
>Entire Universe struggles to hold back the Galra hordes
>Humanity does it with three planes and a battleship.
>HIBY
Did a quick search and I must say how amazed I am at the traction it got
They went too crazy with the progressive/representation stuff.
It wasn't actually blackmail. They were joking around and that leaked content was just a Tumblr repost. The fact that people thought the fanbase was THAT deranged really says something about it, though.
The ending wasn't that bad.
It wasn't perfect and could have been a lot better, but as it is it works well enough.
Is this that fanshit that tried to give Shiro a dog name?
This is klancefag revisionism.
This is the last thing they reblogged
The only mistake I felt was killing Lotor, but the rest seemed like a natural progression. I mean what do you do when you kick the Galra off Earth and already spent the first 3 seasons kicking them around the galaxy?
Yeah I think Lotor was killed off a little bit early, as much as I love how his death was done and that whole part of Season 6.
So were they ever gonna do anything with the dimension hopping fascist alteans? Seems like something left hanging.
What if the OP mentor figure never dies and fucks up the main characters' development? That's what happened.
lolno. Gotta reserve screen time for rando Earth pilots instead.
Shiro, Keith, and Pidge were the only characters with interesting plot threads.
>Original Classic ANIME Voltron is great.
>Dreamwork's Voltron written by Americans is shit.
>Simple as that.
Now is time for a Zillion remake:

I like that Alien race that used plant based tech.
It's funny how I can't argue against this and yet Shiro was my favorite character and The Journey and The Black Paladins were my favorite episodes. The show would've been stronger had Shiro died I don't doubt it but my interest wouldn't have been there.
Even Pidge's stuff wrapped up pretty quickly. Once they found her dad it was just dicking around with Lance and Hunk.
>>Original Classic ANIME Voltron is great.
Was it, though?
>Lance is explicitly shown to be Heterosexual. And a bit of a horndog at that.
>The Fujo Fanbase insists that he is gay.
I honestly thought that Axca was gonna turn out to be Keith's sister.
Voltron aged milk like milk
Poor sound design, horrid voice direction, and you can tell the writers were struggling dealing with Golion's footage
Its honestly more fun to watch it just for the blatant cases of censorship like the space hospital
Golion is just mediocre
Its only real appeal is that its all the gore, swearing, and incest Voltron missed out on
Catchy theme song though
The writers and showrunners are at huge fault for how the show turned out. The fandom was fucking terrible but considering how the animation and voice process works, it was entirely the staff's fault why the show turned out as terrible as it did.
The OCs were a mistake. Fuck the earth pilots.
Do you think Voltron now has G4 syndrome?
As in, this is now the most popular perception of Voltron and has overshadowed the original for that status?
Should've given us Gladiator and Vehicle Voltrons
Yeah I know WEP doesn't own Albegas but for fucks sake, just make an expy
Hell, I'd take Dracotron
I think the Atlas was supposed to be an expy. Felt more like they were trying to ape Robotech though.
>The only mistake I felt was killing Lotor
This. It felt like there was a lot more story you could have done with him, but they just decide to kill him off. In the last season, they show him all messed up but still alive, only to drop that too when it would have been the perfect moment to reintroduce him as the final boss.
>that smile at the very end
Would you rather a fully complete series with a bad ending or a series that never got that chance?
The fanbase first started going downhill when they started insisting Pidge was trans.
>Leakira's having a zine
What's a good stopping point if I start watching this?
No pet play Shiro?
Skip S8. Anything you imagine will make for a better finale than what we got.
Not a Klancefag. I literally saw this happen. It was just some dumbass on Twitter who didn't even take the leaks that were on Tumblr.
She wasn't the one who took them but was threatening to keep them circulating as her 'leverage'. She only backed down because she got scared when other fans reminded her she could face legal action.
In the after-interview they revealed EXACTLY what went wrong.
When they first sat down to make the show they knew that Zarkon would be the villain at the end of the first third, and Lotor would be the villain at the end of the second third. And the villain at the end of the show... they figured they'd think of something.
Now, I'm not dismissing that other things happened along the way that threw some spanners in the works. A character they'd planned on killing off was suddenly someone they HAD to keep in. Voice Actors were unusually difficult to schedule, forcing them to use Keith less and drop ideas they'd had for Matt Holt. And the back and forth with corporate left them a bit blind to how hollow their "accomplishments" would look to people who hadn't been butting heads with suits.
But frankly all of that's kinda fucking shit that can be overcome with a solid ending. And a solid ending is something you need to build towards. It's something you have to at least have a vague enough idea about that you can set up the foundation needed to make it satisfying. And they smiled for the cameras and explained that even though they knew exactly how long the show was going to be, they didn't see a need to plan ahead and have a rough idea of what they wanted for an ending. They decided "hey, how about something with Haggar?" pretty late in the game. So you got a final story that wasn't properly set up, and you had all sorts of plotlines that were never resolved in a satisfactory way. All because they couldn't plan for shit.
Potential authors reading this thread: If someone tells you "you're going to have to tell a story, and here's exactly how long it's going to be," for the love of fuck don't wing it and assume you'll think up an ending when you get there. At the very least have a rough idea of what your destination should be. Even bare bones is better than no plan whatsoever.
The fact that they couldn't simply replicate what was done with Sven with Shiro in terms of "Oh no he died but not really and he's having his own adventures!" will always be weird to me.
what's terrible about this is they already HAD a fucking villain!
They had been building up the shadow creature in the quintessence field ever since the flashback and it was a perfect "final boss" for the series, being what corrupted Zarkon and Haggar and having been alluded to with the evil whisp thingy talking to Allura about how it wanted to stop Haggar to.
They should have had Haggar's "Go to another paralell universe" idea failed and ended up allowing the Black demon thing to escape, and then had that be the final boss.
Who did they plan to kill that they had to keep and why?
Shiro died in the original series and they planned to do the same in the second season but the suits stepped in because they (rightly) thought he'd be very popular.
This is what I don't understand. The showrunners claimed they were mainly inspired by Voltron, not Golion. So why even think about going the Golion route with Shiro?
I swear Gurren Lagann ruined a fucking generation of western cartoons
