When is Samus gonna get her own animated series? All her OG Nintendo buddies got cartoons, anime, or even live-action movies. Its been over 30 years and all she got was a manga nobody read.

Maybe when Nintendo stops treating her like the child they never wanted. Metroid really only appeals to Western audiences due to being very rooted in American sci-fi aesthetics and tropes. It's straight up inspired by Alien after all. Also, the manga was decent for what it was.

She's not "expressive" enough given she's in full armor most of the time and doesn't say much (Other M doesn't count)
While a show with minimal to no dialogue like Samurai Jack and Primal could work, you have to remember those shows are the exception that prove the rule

It's telling how you can see all this fan art portraying Mario, Link, and Samus as Nintendo's trinity
But then you realize its all WESTERN fan art

Eh, the Prime games, Super, Fusion, and Samus Returns did a solid job of characterizing her. It's not really that hard to make a silent, stoic protagonist compelling.

>It's telling how you can see all this fan art portraying Mario, Link, and Samus as Nintendo's trinity

Yep.

>make a silent, stoic protagonist compelling.
Its not hard
We've seen it in Jack and Spear already among many other examples
Its selling it to execs that's the issue

Metroid lacks a stable consistent dev so they can't reliably promote it, there's not enough regular characters to actually interact with in a way that doesn't involve shooting them, game adaptations are still a shaky market with unproven results, and the most story you'd probably get is the manga getting adapted?

If they aren't adapting Zelda yet, there's no way they'll adapt Metroid before that.

Pikachu's second party (co-owned by Nintendo but Nintendo themselves don't make Pokemon) but you're right

This
There's a dedicated Zelda team
A dedicated Animal Crossing team
A dedicated Mario Kart team (who did Arms on the side)
A dedicated Pokemon team in the form of Game Freak
Intelligent Systems does Fire Emblem and Paper Mario
HAL fucking loves making Kirby
Metroid had R&D but that died, Retro Studios hasn't made a game in almost 6 years and they also do Donkey Kong Country, and no one in Nintendo's own Japanese offices ever led development since Fusion IIRC

She definitely deserves one.
While she's badass enough in her games, I really want to see how much of a presence she has when we're not the ones in her shoes.

She’s a woman. Sorry.

>Its selling it to execs that's the issue
Is it? Recall that The Mandolorian is hot shit right now. Hell, you could even bring in Pyonchi is want Samus to have a cute, marketable little sidekick.

That's live action
We're talking about cartoons
You know, the thing the general public sees as inherently childish

Just get Genndy on it.

The folks at Nintendo who call the shots, the ones in Japan? They don't really understand Metroid's popularity. They don't see why Americans like the series so damned much. Moreover, they don't get what to do with the series, which is why Other M sucked balls the way it did and felt like a slap in the face following the Prime trilogy. They've also distinctly gone on record to show they don't actually understand the concept of a bounty hunter, and applied the term to Samus without meaning it, causing major confusion for American audiences.

Attached: 1375917421134.png (860x641, 480.92K)

Thus the series has been mostly ignored. It's got a cult following over here, sure, but the sales numbers per game aren't nearly as high as one might expect. Why take a gamble on a Metroid title when you can just crank out another mediocre Mario that will make bank?

Attached: 1379095608643.jpg (640x480, 47.37K)

So, how do you capture what makes the Metroid games good in animated series form? Most of the games have little to no dialog, apart from the exposition on the title card. There isn't all that much to work with.

Attached: iKxSGR5uBsSOr.jpg (1240x620, 468.77K)

Ever seen Primal?

Samus would not mind being alone. In fact she might even prefer the obscurity.
That's more like it.

That's easy. What makes the Metroid games good?
>strong atmosphere
>mild horror elements
>sense of exploration and discovery
>large scale setting fleshed out via small scope
>a relatively simple, but interesting and likeable protagonist
>strong art direction
Translating these elements to an episodic format could make for a great show.

It would make for a great show, but it would also take a very dedicated team who understood that premise. Without the right writers, director, or other folks in charge, we would end up with a pile of schlock that nobody would want to watch.
It's very easy to turn to bullshit tropes, or worse, fanservice, and we don't need that from a Metroid show.

Attached: 1379105418138.jpg (1400x1204, 1.11M)

So.... don't let Japan anywhere fucking near it?

Attached: 1379095130339.jpg (900x1552, 458.85K)

Maybe she keeps logs to herself. Make the primary aspects of isolation and make it part of her character. Is Samus lonely? What's her view on friends (especially after Corruption)?
Her biological family, adoptive family, and military family are all dead, so that could make for some interesting drama. Especially if you make the adaptation post-Fusion, she won't be able to go to certain planets and outposts, she may not be able to trust simple acquaintances laving her alone with space monkeys a and dodo bird. She can always flee to her pals aboard the Great Fox.

Dunno, Jap Samus porn is top tier

Young Samus was such wasted potential, and it's frankly offensive that the Chozo are never once mentioned in this story allegedly about Samus Aran's past. That's like telling a story about Wonder Woman's background, but without ever acknowledging the Amazons. Absolute nonsense.

Also, I call hard bullshit on the idea of the Feddie military being sexist. It's the fucking space opera future. Fuck you.

I dont know how they dont know what a bounty hunter is when star fox is a mercenary group(you get paid for taking out andross). Not to mention they know samurai, and seven samurai being a movie about employing samurai. They cant be that dumb, moreso they want there work to be kid friendly.

Actually, one of the reasons Metroid isnt very successful in Japan is because of the marketing, i think.
Most japanese people have the impression that it's too "american" with too much action, and yknow, thats because all of their ads genuinely portray Metroid as some sort of action game for whatever reason, as opposed to the more nuanced series it really is.
Its part of why i dislike her characterization in Samus Returns so much: she comes off as a generic gung-ho action hero, when if anything she's been shown to be pretty restrained. She's not the doomguy, she doesnt take thrill from fighting aliens; it's just self-defense and getting her job done.

>Sonic 06
>Skyward Sword
Why is Samus sad they didn't force out a game for her birthday? They're never good.

Executives are ignorant morons regardless of geography.

You've got a point, every Metroid ad I've ever seen plays up the action, when the series is all about that classic Metroidvania exploration.

And I think the action hero vibe comes more from SR being a 2D title without scanning. The Primes gave us insight into Samus' intellectual background(engineering, xenobiology, computer science, archaeology, etc), so there she felt more like a well rounded explorer.

Naw, it was just the complete lack of acknowledgement for the series. They didn't need to make a game, they just had to give some credit to Metroid.

I love how some of the weight on her shoulders is supported by her arms instead.

Attached: Power Suit.jpg (2652x1796, 993.94K)

I like how that image makes it so Samus can't even lift her arms due to the suit design. And yet people act like it's the one true canon.

These logs would take the form of internal narration and such? Kinda like Fusion. I can dig it.

>nearly everyone Samus cares about is either dead or missing
>her entire adoptive culture is gone
>that FUCKING dragon refuses to die
... You know that bonus art from Zero Mission that shows Samus at a bar? Gotta figure she's a regular customer. Just saying.

Attached: 1379425239073.jpg (1210x450, 146.84K)

Yeah, that needless edgy shit doesn't belong in Metroid.

It's not much of a stretch though. Her biological family is gone. The Chozo are, in fact, dead. Ridley keeps coming back, time after time.

Attached: 1379520448280.jpg (3489x624, 439.24K)

I'm not suggesting she be a total wreck or anything, just that every now and then, she'd need a friggin drink.

If there ever was a Metroid cartoon, there needs to be an episode that's about Samus going about her normal day when she's off mission. Like, does she just hang out around her house and watch TV? Where does she live anyway? These are important questions.

Play an RPG. Metroid is incredibly simple and doesn't need a story
>Go planet
>kill alliums
>ENGAGE RIDLEY MOTHER FUCKER
>Time Bomb Set Time Get Out

Captain Olimar from Pikmin is lowkey the best written and most detailed Nintendo series protagonist.
But I kind of think Samus could take a page out of his book, in that he's often waxing philosophical in his personal logs, he's an explorer on an alien planet, but he's also just a man doing his job.

I like the idea that Samus can perhaps see herself as not only a bounty hunter, but also someone who just likes to explore worlds and discover lost civilizations and is genuinely interested in reading all the blogs she will come across. Perhaps this interest in history could be written as holdover from her childhood with the Chozo and her fleeting life with her real family.
Also, I feel that Samus could potentially see herself as someone who generally always trying to do the right thing. This is best reflected in Return of Samus and Prime 2. She didn't dare harm the hatchling Metroid and her she saved Aether without much prompting.

Perhaps; still though, despite being an athletic powerhouse she never felt that way in Super, Fusion, Zero Mission, or even the original Metroid II for that matter.
Honestly I'm just salty at Samus Returns as a whole, sorry. I dislike p much every aspect of its design and get easily triggered by it, I shouldn't have brought it up.

Only bad parts about it are controls aren't d-pad and Samus has her most hideous suit ever.

Aw fuck, now I want exactly that goddamnit.
I fucking love that about Olimar too; getting to see Samus play a similar angle but perhaps tackle more serious or darker ideas in her entries would be fantastic.

Samus almost certainly does enjoy reading scan entries. In Prime 1 at less, she makes supplemental notes on various creatures especially, implying an interest in xenobiology.

There's also her tendency to make hilariously over the top action poses all the time, so she clearly likes her job. Although now we have the delightful image of her just standing around reading lore.

>saved Aether without much prompting
That nonchalant wave at the end is easily one of the best moments of the series.

And don't forget being willing to risk having the entire Federation wanting her head in order to wipe out all trace of the X Parasites.

Other m suit is still worse.

Nope.

This. Fuck that piss yellow crap.

>When is Samus gonna get her own animated series? All her OG Nintendo buddies got cartoons, anime, or even live-action movies. Its been over 30 years and all she got was a manga nobody read.

By your own admission this has nothing to do with Yas Forums and yet it's not deleted? The mods of this garbage board are a mountain of shit. Also fuck you for posting off topic shit on Yas Forums. Seriously fuck you, go to hell and same to anyone you like.

Um... Upset much?

Samus has starred and featured in a few comics, actually.
>aforementioned Captain N comics by Valiant
>Nintendo Power Super Metroid comic
>Prime 1 promotional comic
Cry the fuck more.

Well, I still stand by the tone being all kinds of off compared to the original, the gameplay and level design being bastardized, and the ending actively undermining the original game, but this isn't the time nor the board to discuss that.
Point is, I still feel that Samus was characterized poorly in it. Even without the scanning in Prime, her behavior in cutscenes (as well as her behavior in Super and Fusion) carried the implication that, while she is constantly on guard and can blast you to smithereens if you give her a reason to, she still is a very calm and collected individual who would rather keep her distance, than jump onto a hostile alien's back and pump missiles down its back and then backflip off. (Let's also not forget that she is also very spiritual, being raised by the Chozo and such, and thus carries at least some form of respect for the life around her as opposed to treating battle as some sort of thrill)

Attached: DX35o4AUMAAojLu.png (883x619, 742.15K)

*pump missiles down its gullet, sorry.

After watching the Starship Troopers, I remember thinking that a Metroid show would be pretty cool. Samurai Jack had it right, make it more about the worldbuilding and the effect Samus has on the people she helps rather than her own issues, like that journal entry from that female marine in Prime 2 where people think she's some kind of urban legend. I was never a fan of the Zero Suit and god knows it monopolized the fan art, so do away with it and only show her out of suit as a shadowy figure at first. First full view out of suit ought to be during some flashback of her as a kid with the Chozo.

I would like to see her spiritual side played up a bit. It usually doesn't go much further than showing basic reverence for Chozo sites and artifacts, but it'd be neat if a game opened with her meditating or something.

Also, Samus does has a penchant for silly action poses, so it's entirely likely that she does find a bit of thrill in her work.

Ever wonder why Mario and Zelda keep giving nods to each other?
Its because their devs are literally in the same fucking building
Same as Animal Crossing IIRC, which explains why Mario Kart got Animal Crossing and Zelda DLC

Let's see if i can remember which Nintendo characters got animated versions
Mario: Has them
Donkey Kong: In some trailers
Zelda: Smash Palu. trailer
Metroid: A trailer
Kirby: Back at Ya
StarFox: Animated Promo for Zero
Pokemon: Has them
Mother and Ice Climbers: Apparently nothing
Fire Emblem: Marth had his own Ova's
Punch Out: Has animated cutscenes
Wished the other series had something

>Donkey Kong: In some trailers
Don't you dare forget

Who would be most suited to writing an ongoing Metroid comic?

Archie wanted to do one, but Nintendo rejected it. I like Flynn, but he's probably way too wordy.

God, I wish Nintendo of Japan would just give their Western developers 100% responsibility over Metroid and just fuck off.

Right? It's not like they give a shit about the IP anyway. Every time a new title comes out, it feels like they do it out of obligation. Hell, they eventually had to give Prime 4 back to Retro because they had no idea what to even do.

Also, why were none of the manga ever officially translated? Absolute nonsense, that.
