>Me and the boys about to try and help a skeleton with PTSD.
No, seriously. I was considering having them help Gabriel come out of his shell, but I decided against it because that'd be something nice happening to him
>this is a secret message. If you read it first, you are amazing and I owe you any drawing.
Too bad user, looks like you owe me any drawing.
>Who is your MC's first love? Is that person still alive and involved in the story? I don't think Rau has any love love, at most crushes during her childhood. I feel she is the kind that could date anyone, but is very selective on who she falls in love with and marries.
>BONUS Question: Which 4 HYW characters would you want in your dystopian apocalypse survival party? Ah this sounds fun. Tad, he seems resourceful. Dee, because magic powers, and even if she didn't have them she is optimistic which helps. Cloey from Bladeus, she already seems to live the trash life, won't complain. Sormon from Concord Initiative so we can worst case steal from others.
I was watching plague of gripes' nurutu video while cleaning, nothing I have never thought about the series myself to be honest, but he said something that caught my attention. According to him, good entertaining stories are explorations of certain lines of thought so characters "sprout" from a single idea/argument which the main character embodies while the rest do so for reflections derived from aspects of this main idea. He gave the example of Batman and his rogue gallery and how Two-Face is a twisted version of how he has to make difficult choices everyday, Scarecrow uses fear to achieve his goals like Batman does, and Hugo Strange is just as obsessive as Batman.
Is he right?

it's a great way to write, but I think people who examine writing mainly like it because it makes it easier to examine writing

Status is that I finished Issue 1's script and art team working on it now. I'm outlining Issue 2, reviewing page progress and getting variant covers done
>THREAD QUESTION: Who is your MC's first love? Is that person still alive and involved in the story? Now im not sure they were his first love, but Tad's ex plays a HUGE role in the story. Dr. Anne Thrax >BONUS Question: Which 4 HYW characters would you want in your dystopian apocalypse survival party? Im just going to use this as a chance to build my harem of strong sexy ladies who will protect me. >Gasolina >Percy >Azu >Gurk (she will keep azu from killing me, and is a walking decontamination unit)
Generally only in the sense that stories have an underlying theme that the protagonist explores through interactions with people and the environment. But the idea that supporting cast members have to be mirrors to the main character isn't true. Even in comics it doesn't hold up. You have to do some serious crowbaring and stretching to make Spider-Man's top bad guys into mirrors of himself.
That being said, Superman's most enduring foes are plays on his own loneliness and isolation. Lex feels alone because of his ego. Bizarro feels alone because he's a monster. Mxy is alone because he's a bored imp.
Zachary Ramirez
It really depends on the story. If you are really trying to explore a protagonist, and that protagonist is the heart of the story, then your antagonist should be a dark reflection of their ideals. However, if the journey, or the group, or the mission, etc, etc. is the heart of the story, then this is not necessary, or recommended.
Writing is a creative process and while their are rules that should be followed for good writing, you also need to know how to exploit and bend these rules to proper effect. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. The point is that you should not try to write to a formula. There is a reason "formulaic" is considered a bad thing.
Evan Hughes
of course Kaen is still alive. They had an adorable thing for a little while before it became a boring married thing because I forgot to write them interesting interactions. Nobody ever got mad about THAT age difference for some reason.
let's see it was late 2009 so Mizu was either 19 or 20, and Kaen was 14 or barely 15.. because he turned 16 in early 2012 and I had basically a 3 years to 1 year thing going when I tried to keep track of time. I really should have written more of this down, I think it was all just in my memory.
Kevin Peterson
I think I kind of fall by accident into doing that every once in a while but I never make or tweak a character to do that specifically, or change it after I've done it. I think it makes a story feel artificial.
Also, my process is more like I brainstorm the characters I would like to work with when writing a story, and then I assign them the roles I need them to play and find ways to get them involved in the plot. I could've found a bad guy that reflects my MCs but I prefer relating the main antagonist conceptually to the source of the conflict than to the MC.
I'm always distrustful of formulas but when I find something I could kind of apply to my writing I adopt it almost as actual feedback. Repeating myself is one of my biggest concerns, it doesn't take me all that much to turn any plot into a literal journey even if I make sure to make my stories about different things. I kind of feel you can't have much world building, interesting dynamics, or larger objectives for your heroes if the plot remains in a single place so it's better to move the characters around to get to those but I can easily see how when people, hopefully, in the future see my works might think "huh, user sure likes road stories".

In general, do readers like in-universe media, like shows and books that exist within the setting? Cause it seems like a great way yo flesh out your world to show what people do for fun.
Carter Edwards
I want to have Alex Jones like character in my setting who is right for all the wrong reasons.
Brody James
I always like when this happens. Daily Bugle and Ember Island Players in avatar are great examples of this trope used excellently.
Why not? They could also have a particular war their powers that be are absolutely obsessed with that appears all the time on the games/books/shows your characters consume.
>THREAD QUESTION: Who is your MC's first love? Is that person still alive and involved in the story? As the story goes on love will be expressed for certain characters that is for sure.
>BONUS Question: Which 4 HYW characters would you want in your dystopian apocalypse survival party? Some of the /hyw/ characters would make great assets for a survival team but I do not list them here. I cannot expect people to appreciate my characters being associated with their content.
> THREAD QUESTION: Who is your MC's first love? Is that person still alive and involved in the story?
Abby has a crush and Lucas’ older brother, Robbie, who’s like 3 years older than her. It was very one sided and eventually Abby moved on once she learns Robbie has a boyfriend
I have health issues. I'm taking some shit right now and seeing a doc, we'll see what happens.
don't ever take stomach acid pills, man. they screw you up.
Caleb Miller
>don't ever take stomach acid pills, man. they screw you up. Oh fug..I take them occasionally. How many were you taking? What did it do? Worried I should see a doctor now.
Ethan Wilson
well sometimes they turn off more than just the acid glands, if you know what i mean look up side-effects of the ones you're taking, keep an eye on how you're doing. take a vision test every so often
Dylan Long
>what do you want me to draw for you?
Draw me a chibi Rhianon.
>So, what's her type? Women: young motherly types, fun types, thicc and quiet. Men: "noble" kind older men (but not old). Serious-working types. Its easier for me to imagine the kind of girls she would like to be honest.
Picturing Gurk flattening Azu every time she tries shit is kinda funny, ngl.
He always seemed way older for me. Probably retroactive memory change from his time with a moustache.
Also, I've debated starting a "/BizCo/ general" to cover both selling indies/self publishing as well as industry sales. Good containment for the latter but would also be a good place to ask questions like the above.
Would anyone post in that?

How goes the catfight pic Nekomatanon?

I would become a regular, and try to learn from the comic selling masters.
I'd have to get a few links and dumps together for an OP and just to make it worth entering in the beginning but could be hugely helpful.

I never charge extra for it being a new design vs just drawing any other picture. Are you actually asking whether you should charge more for 3-4 drawings than one half-finished one?
Josiah Mitchell
Well yeah it sounds dumb as fuck when you say it like that. He asked me if I'd design a character for him next though (to do a comic really but idk about all that). What's the going rate for that sort of thing?
