What's this guy's problem?
What's this guy's problem?
he has an inferiority complex and relishes in the fantasy of being oppressed because it justifies his vindictive or hateful behavior.
Most asian boys are overly sensitive and prone to fits of impotent rage.
...he does know over 100 years is the 20th century, right? There might be serious racial tensions but there was no actual slave trade going on?
No one likes a pedant
whyd he move to the deep south
Insecurity over the fact that despite being one of the most privileged races in America, he somehow can't cope with being a minority in a nation that is more open and accepting than any other.
he didn't. its all imaginary scenarios.
It makes me really sad when I see a kind old lady who probably has minor dementia trying her best to be friendly and earnestly trying to help somebody, but because she's old and doesn't understand modern social customs plus the dementia they say something that's not "PC" and then they're made the butt of the joke in one of these passive aggressive SJW comics.
Just leave the old lady alone, she probably thought you would enjoy those restaurants and have a nice day :*(
This is some massive complex.
Yet another person unnecessarily intimidated by the southland
For someone who is so heavily inclined to bitch about others not respecting asian culture, he sure as shit doesn't seem to respect western culture.
This shouldn’t be hitting me so hard.
I mean there was the Japanese Internment Camps but that was the west coast and also I dunno if this dude is Japanese
>it's wrong to stereotype asians!
>by the way here's all these southerner stereotypes lol freaking rednecks amiright
>only one obese person and everyone's blonde
I don't know where he is but this isn't the South
He is Filipino I am pretty sure.
The woman in the first panel is being courteous and trying to help him meet his needs, but is merely naive in thinking that, because he's asian, he only wants asian food (of course, she winds up being proven right in further panels).
The second, third, and fourth panel show he's ignorant of history. As a part of the Reconstruction, the North elevated the soldiers of the South to war hero status. This was so the South would reintegrate into the Union, which was the North's whole point in fighting the Civil War. You can't have a nation that is truly united when one half of the nation is telling the other half of the nation they're scum. Yes, it's not an entirely truthful narrative, but being blind to the point of the narrative is just ignorant. And a slave auction block isn't history preserved because people are "proud" of it. It's around for the same reason something like Auschwitz stays up: to remind people of dark times in history so they're not repeated. Also, he's showing he has a lot of prejudice and views people as stereotypes in the fourth panel. Not very progressive behavior.
Fifth panel is two people privately making jokes that he eavesdrops on in order to take offense (even though, yes, some Chinese people do eat cats, dogs, rats, and bats). Sixth panel is the author making a joke about southerners eating groundhog (which is true, some do), except now he's a hypocrite because he previously took umbrage to a similar joke.
Overall, it's a pretty bad comic where he nitpicks "microaggressions" because everyone in the South is actually really nice to him and he desperately wants to be a persecuted minority.
>pointing out racism makes you racist!
I wish I could go back and make sure you tourists never knew about Yas Forums
Making up scenarios about shit that never happened makes you a faggot
>Don't repost
>Shares are appreciated
????????
>"stereotyping is bad"
>stereotypes southerners
So, I see this clown's work posted all over Yas Forums, from Yas Forums to Yas Forums, and I really didn't understand the point he was trying to make because, y'know, he's cherry picking scenarios that could or couldn't happen, but we're led to believe happen 24/7. So, I Googled this asshat, and found his Tumblr page. It's fitting, but after like one scroll, came across this gem. Is this guy really implying that because someone doesn't look like you it's hard to identify with them? Is he really that braindead? Is he really that moronic? I could list a plethora of characters, in comics, films, tv, that I don't look like, but can identify with
who the fuck eats groundhogs
>Is this guy really implying that because someone doesn't look like you it's hard to identify with them?
Yes, and it's not an uncommon sentiment. It's basically the driving point behind "diversity in television and film is important." Oddly, if that's true, and you can't identify with someone if they're a different race/gender, then that's really an argument against diversity and multiculturalism, and for things like segregation. There's no reason to make a character black when your audience is primarily white simply due to demographics. I'd rather reach 70% of the population that's white with a white character than only 15% of the population that's black with a black character or the 1% of the population that's asian with an asian character (those aren't exact numbers). And if you're able to emphasize with your fellow man more easily if you both happen to be the same race, then obviously a more racially homogeneous country is what we should be striving for over a racially diverse country. Maybe the author would feel more comfortable moving to a country where his race is the majority. Then he wouldn't have to deal with white people being nice and friendly and helpful to him which he mistakenly perceives as hostile and hateful due to him being unable to emphasize with them, caused by him being of a different race.
Long story short, sounds like he wants America to be a white ethnostate. Maybe he should post his stuff on Yas Forums.
I guarantee you this dude has never stepped foot in the south
People from places that hunt, such as the South, eat game, which would include groundhog meat.
Post that one comic where he has this weird tiny version of him insult people
Is there such a thing as a Stonewall Jackson sandwitch?
>a 100 year old malt shop with a slave auction block in it
>friendly people
>guy offering him cooking advice
>going out to eat during the corona outbreak then judging others
This guy.
>"Asians eat dogs? That's offensive!"
>"HAHA LOOK AT THIS STUPID REDNECK PIECE OF SHIT! HE EATS RODENTS! WHAT AN ASSHOLE, AM I RIGHT, FOLKS?!"
>is mad about racism against the chinese
Hes clearly not philippino then, they hate china
What was wrong with the sandwich?
You're hostile all the fucking time about your culture and other people infringing on it, what's the difference with them?
You're in a small town and an employee decided to share some advice he's come to the conclusion after living obviously self sufficient.
Why?
He doesnt believe it deserves any respect.
Asian-American sjws are the worst because in order to seem oppressed they have to exaggerate very minor problems,, igniting the reality that they’re one of the most privileged groups in America.
I mean this comic is on the lighter side of things for him. As with most minorities they are completely blind to their own racism and feel justified in expressing it simply because they consider themselves righteous in doing it. White racists are assholes, black racists are assholes, asian racists are assholes. They all share one thing in common, a lack of perspective.
Luna is racist though, if you look at any of his other comics it's always complaining about other races existing/ being the reason he's single.
He is a textbook racist.
I don't think any character I like has ever looked like me nor do I care if they do, how self absorbed do you have to be that you cannot engage with something unless it stars a carbon copy of yourself?
Southerner here.
What a crock of absolute shit.
That was my thought, desu. Does he just assume because a character has "white" skin, that suddenly I'm just engaged with them? My all time favorite comic character is Green Arrow and we look nothing alike. I prefer Stewart GL to the rest, and he definitely doesn't look like me. But then again, when you look like this and you're clearly harboring resentment to some white Stacy that blew you off, I guess you need to vent.
What's the reason?
Last guy isn't being racist he's trying to joke around the way he would with anybody.
Top right place is so on the nose it might just be ironic hipsters as well.
And the top left town's probably pretty cosmopolitan and okay to be in for him if they have two Asian restaurants and an Asian specialty grocery store all within a reasonable distance.
I can see where Dirty Dan's 88 Divebar and Grandma's Diner aren't good fits though.
Six panels of things that never happened.
You know what's something that always bugs me about the whole "looks like me"/"representation" argument that always goes unmentioned?
Why is it assumed that just because a character is the same ethnic group as you that you can automatically relate to them? Why is it taken for granted that as long as someone has the same skin color that you have anything else in common with them?
And furthermore why is a character having commonalities with you desirable anyway?
Superman is an iconic and popular character but I'd argue that nobody on earth could possibly relate to the character in the manner that these people keep saying readers want to.
Nobody has ever been a super powered alien living among humans so why is the character popular? according to the prevailing logic this shouldn't be possible. Even less fantastic characters like Batman, how many billionaire martial arts experts are among the fans of that character?
People consume fiction as escapism not to see themselves, if they wanted that they would just look in a mirror.
>be nonwhite
>deliberately live in some bumblefuck southern state
It's more pointing out the hypocrisy of white people complaining about weird food while also eating weird food.
>no but i made it sound like he's the hypocrite
I know but that doesn't work in this specific instance.
He's fighting against the stereotype that asians are good at math.
>a 100 year old malt shop with a slave auction block in it
god I want to go there
It really is. It's a shame that the dregs of the new generation have become corrupted by outside forces and lashes out at those who don't understand or conform to their abhorrent ideals, whether they're old or young. But remember that Luna is biased and places himself as the upper man in his comics, just like any modern day comic writer who intends to push an agenda.
I have lived in the deep south all my life and have never known anyone to eat a groundhog.
also the second panel implies that the old lady did give him a location to a restaurant where he get sandwiches. She was nothing but helpful.
I assume it's because these people can only relate to an individual on a surface level, ie, their skin tone. Their character is something that they are oblivious about. Is this black character, who comes from a stable home, is stalwart in his convictions, wants to do the right thing, and stands up for his friends something I can relate to? No, he's black, of course I can't. Ah! This self-hating white character who gets walked on by everyone and is a scumbag of a person, I can relate to that because I'm white! Haha!
No, it's being hypocritical. If pointing out people eat weird food is wrong, then you're not allowed to turn around and point out that other people also eat weird food.
For it not to be hypocritical, he'd have to go, "Haha, yeah, it's weird that asians eat dogs and bats and stuff. But if you think about it, all cultures have foods that have weird food. For instance, some people in the South eat deer and squirrel and rabbit and groundhog, and that's a bit weird." That's also the mature way to see it. Instead, he gets angry and tries to lash out and get revenge by doing the same thing he accuses them of doing (and considering they aren't real, but rather characters for whom he is writing the dialogue, really, all that's happened is that he wrote some stuff that then he found offensive, and then said some things that, by his standards, are offensive in order to get revenge on himself).
Post some more of this guy's shit I want to get a feel for him
Why are you asking me
hes just too picky. im curious about your problem with his work.
>some people in the South eat deer
Venison is fucking delicious
The closest thing to a joke in the comic is that he could've just listened to that first woman instead of getting offended and saved himself the anguish of experiencing a different culture.
>some people in the South eat deer
Colorado reporting in, what idiots don't eat venison?
I wouldn't say it's all that common but it does happen. Did you do a lot of hunting? Most places in the South have a hunting season for animals like groundhogs and beaver (as well as seasons for other animals like raccoon, opossum, squirrel, and so on). The animals that are killed are usually going to be stripped of their meat so the meat can be consumed. In my experience, game usually gets turned into jerky (and it's pretty damn good, but then again, I've also eaten dog and horse and all sorts of shit, so I don't really pass judgement too harshly on people who eat weird things).
I didn't ask you anything?
Deer is good but it's not a common meat in many parts of the world, and people do find it strange. When I talk about eating deer, it's definitely raised eyebrows when I'm talking to people who don't come from places that hunt.
What did he mean by this
...do you really want to do that, though?
Non-american here. Are they?
Yep. Ultimately, the old lady knew better.
People are stupid and also want to self-insert into fantasy. A character looking like them is easier to relate to than having to actually understand a character's motivations, experiences, etc.
Really, what is he doing there? It's not just the state, it means he's not in a big city, so he just decided to throw a dart at America and move where it hit?
