It's now a little less than two weeks until Adult Swim does their annual prank for 2020.
This year should be interesting with Mike Lazzo gone and all the changes that have been going on at Williams Street.
Anyone have any guesses to what this year's prank may be?
My best guess is that we're going to get some stealth premiere of a new show, or they'll air a failed pilot or some other mind screwy one-off like that Macchu Picchu tennis cartoon from last year's prank.
Since the prank is on a weekday, I highly doubt we'll see anything related to Toonami or anime like in 2012 or 2018, but then again, airing an anime-related prank would be throwing the audience a major curveball, especially if they did the cliche idea of bringing back Adult Swim Action as a prank.
While I'd like to see an anime-related prank for 2020, I really think it's going to be some stealth premiere or a pilot for an unfunny stoner show
I'm honestly surprised they didn't try to air The Room for the 2019 prank as a 10th anniversary celebration of the original Room prank. Maybe it'll happen this year since The Room was also the 2010 prank?
Instead of "The Room" it's "Double Down" by Neil Breen.
Leo Baker
They don’t do anime shit unless it’s on Saturday. Nobody but the small sect of Toonami weebs cares about anime
Nicholas Phillips
Lasts years prank was painfully unfunny, so my expectations are pretty low. Making it worse was the fact they reran it to death in the following months since it was clear they sank too much into it.
With corona shutting everything down they may not even have anything but some lazy last second thing
Jaxson Moore
It'll be a repeat of 2016s joke.
Xavier Nguyen
Wonder what this place will do?
Jonathan Bailey
They are still sitting on the other half of Rick and Morty S4. Expect it to revolve around that
Adam Campbell
Anime gets the highest quality pranks though >2012 they got one shot licenses for a bunch of anime as well as brought back Toonami permanently >2018 they licensed the Japanese versions of most of the currently airing shows as well as dubbed TOM and Sara in Japanese and made special Japanese packaging for the block Makes most normal AS pranks look like shit
Ryder Price
Why do Toonamitards think the prank revolves around them every single year?
Justin Murphy
Given the apocalyptic nature of the way things are nowadays, this year's the best time as ever for a Kemono Friends marathon.
Chase Jackson
It'll be episode 6 of Rick and Morty.
Jayden Jenkins
theyre going to show us the future where the loss of fox reruns has killed adult swim and CN takes back the night so toonheads reruns. whole series
Camden Roberts
Anime is better than everything else on Adult Swim now that it's mostly lame stoner shit and they're losing the Fox reruns.
Plus, even if you hate anime, you have to admit that Adult Swim doing an anime prank outside of a Saturday would be a hell of a prank in and of itself.
I doubt it. That joke was their most hated one, and it only worked the first time because they aired a bunch of commercials promoting the prank in advance and people fell for it.
If they air commercials advertising the prank then everyone will know it's a repeat of the 2016 prank.
That's personally what I think is going to happen
This guy gets it.
The anime pranks are the best ones, and airing an anime prank on a weekday would be a hell of a prank in and of itself.
Now that AS is under new management, who knows what can happen? I still think it will be a lame prank or maybe a stealth premiere of some Rick & Morty bullshit.
Because the only good AS pranks in the last ten years were the Toonami ones. Even if you hate anime, the non-Toonami pranks were pretty weak in the 2010's
Christopher Morris
I think that's probably what we will get, unfortunately
Now that would be a hilarious prank, even better than doing a Toonami/anime-themed prank.
Next time the April Fools prank falls on a Friday night, they should bring back Cartoon Cartoon Fridays.
Camden Smith
>Next time the April Fools prank falls on a Friday night, they should bring back Cartoon Cartoon Fridays.
Just someone coughing horribly over the entire show.
Jordan Diaz
another aussie rick and morty adventure in the toilet paper dimension and every bit of dialog is replaced by the word trump but body language gets whats going on across but turns out it was all a thought at Dan's moment of climax as it cuts to him humping that baby doll
Juan Ramirez
9 hours of bumpers either entire shows broken down and its just a black and white screen all night of their popular shows in [text form]
Kevin Ramirez
Based, their ratings thread gets btfo by the mods every week lol
Liam Thomas
its not the mods, its a single very determined janny
Benjamin Brooks
Do cartoon Network powerhouse. They did Toonami a few years back.
What will Toonami do now that Funi has put a hiatus to all simuldubs? Black Clover has plenty of episodes to buffer the blow, but MHA only has 4, and we have seen already Funi forces Toonami to stop if we get within 4 episodes of the dub.
Andrew Martin
funi will probably throw something weird at us from their back catalog to make up for the flub
>Funimation >taking responsibility Now there’s a laugh
Gabriel Cook
New Alan resnick skits
it's an entire movie set in the this house has people universe.
Blake Bell
Toonami is still better than Rick & Morty or the lame unfunny stoner shit that stopped being cool in 2009, but stays on AS because Tim Heidecker is blowing the right people at Williams Street.
Jason Gonzalez
the tim and eric shit costs very little to produce. i think they still use tape to record their shows
Brandon Allen
Adult swim partners with TCM and Disney to air a surprise one time only airing of song of the south
If it had half as much of an online experience as THHPII and UFOAB, it'd be the best April bit ever.
Cooper Williams
New Rick and Morty ep that starts off normal enough but slowly becomes more surreal until it turns into a ep of Xavier Renegade Angel
Jason Price
as[] insider here
its a tim and eric marathon to promote their show
Christian Ward
Old adult swim shows with crude coughing dubbed over some of the audio.
Isaac James
i vote this. not constantly and unbelievably. just a clearing of the throat or small bit of coughing every minute or so. sniffles and grogginess and sneezing too heard in the background
Cooper Ward
They'll release a cure to the corona virus.
Connor Robinson
They announce Rick and Morty is canceled.
Brody Roberts
oh right the second part of the season is coming soon
Dominic Perez
that's really underwhelming, it's obvious they're gearing up to air the second half of S4 soon, and they're not going just repeat 2017's April Fools
Logan Torres
It will be season 5 of the Eric Andre Show. Screencap this.
Jace Martin
Yeah, next time they do April Fools on Toonami, they should play ether classic Toonami shows like Gundam, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, etc..., ether that or do a marathon of "Wulin Warriors" (remember that show?)
Easton Barnes
April fools has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
Levi Torres
[as] doesn't have time for jokes anymore. In 2021 Family Guy and Bob's Burgers going completely to Disney-owned FXX and Freeform. They're FUCKED when that happens.
Luis Fisher
>reair the same crap they normally air Not much of a prank
Zachary King
They aired the classics for the 2012 prank. Most of them even became part of the real block. A real prank would be airing anime Toonami never would normally
Aiden Ortiz
Really, their only hope once that happens is to do a 180 on their stance on anime and just go full hog on embracing the weebs and expand Toonami into the weekdays and do what they did back in the early-mid 2000's where Saturday was all anime, Sunday was all comedy, and the weekdays were a mix of reruns from both anime and comedy.
The only non-Fox comedies that can still have viability and aren't just reruns of older material are Robot Chicken and Squidbillies, unless they decide to revive Metalocalypse and avoid fucking it up. Even then, there's not much to go with.
Venture Brothers has the issue of taking too long to premiere new seasons and Rick & Morty coasted mainly on its meme value. The other original comedies tend to be unfunny and often get low ratings just like their anime counterparts, and the live-action Tim Heidecker shit is widely disliked nowadays and does the worst in the ratings.
If AS reduces the size of their block and go back to starting at 10:00 PM, throw the anime crowd a bone now that Lazzo and Miller are gone, and improve their comedies by focusing on a more curated set of comedies while also giving Tim Heidecker the boot once and for all, and AS might survive after the Fox reruns gravy train leaves the station once and for all.
Angel Murphy
I only care about when Uzumaki is airing. I can’t wait much longer!!!
Toonami wasn’t even able to handle being in prime time on Saturday. They waited way too long to try to pander to the anime crowd
Hudson Johnson
Well, like I said, a marathon of Wulin Warriors, ever heard of it?, it's said to be the worst thing toonami ever played on their block
Brody Anderson
i would piss my pants laughing
Thomas Campbell
Possibly, but you also had the problem of a lot of the old guard at Williams Street in the late 2000's and 2010's hating anime and as it was, the Toonami anime that were aired on Prime Time were meant as stop gap filler after they lost King of the Hill in 2018 and needed some PG-rated material to use as a buffer. It did not have time to build any momentum.
As it is, the only reason why Toonami was brought back in 2012 was because the April Fools prank was such a huge hit that they could not ignore the numbers.
I think we may be poised for a nascent second anime boom and with AS losing their actual gravy train of Fox reruns, they may have no other choice but to give the olive branch to the weebs and tell Tim Heidecker and the dozen or so brain dead stoners and hipsters who still watch AS's live-action stoner comedies to go take a hike.
Agreed
Benjamin Morales
Yea, even that’s not a very good prank >hehehe remember bad show? Here’s bad show! At least expect them to put some effort in
