It was only one episode. Alien force made a lot of weird retcons that don't really make much sense in context.

The two are forced to work together on this given the one who actually knows about all the magic and occult stuff is the one without the omnitrix equivalent

Which is why I don't consider anything after the original show as canon.

And "Goodbye and Good Riddance" is the real series finale. Ben's journey comes to a close as he returns home, Vilgax comes back for one final throwdown, and Ben's father shows where his son gets his bravery from. A nice, clean ending that was only made a What If (likely last-minute) because CN wanted to keep milking the series and so they couldn't allow that episode to be THE end.

So the reboot started season 4 a while ago, anyone watched it yet? How is it?

We won't. Frankly, it astounds all logic that the original show got three sequels all in one continuous storyline for basically ten unbroken years.

Generally, one of two things happens to shows specifically designed to be toyetic, such as Ben 10. Either A:
it takes the Pokemon route and there's never much story focus or continuity outside of the current season. Some old episodes are occasionally referenced, old characters might come back for a bit, but in general the story wraps itself up in 2-3 years and then gets restarted. It's all in the same continuity but it really doesn't need to be.

Or they take B: The Transformers Route. The story might matter heavily in each series but once that series is over then either the whole franchise gets rebooted, or there's a sequel series, which is then followed by a reboot.

This is done because kids only stay in that target demographic for so long, and it's beneficial for the younger kids to see a show from the beginning so that they can establish a connection with the show from the get-go.

Ben 10 managed to maintain a single cohesive narrative (with some minor retcons) for ten years throughout four distinct series and over 200 episodes. That's crazy and shows some serious faith in the franchise from Network Execs. Note that all of the sequels were made during Snyder's tenure as president. He likely personally went to bat to keep the show on the air for so long. It's telling that as soon as Snyder left the position, the show was effectively trashed. Three seasons were burned up in the space of a month and a half, purely in early morning weekday death slots, because it no longer fit the network's identity.
That continuity is never coming back, outside of potentially a "passing of the torch" like Thundercats and Teen Titans have done. It is the product of a business and storytelling philosophy that no longer exists at Cartoon Network.

Actually, whenever they did the pop up version of episodes/Secret of the Omnitrix, one of the blurb things did reveal that Gwen had a brother named Ken, but it didn't specify why he didn't go on the roadtrip or why we never saw him through the majority of the series.

In my opinion the Yu-Gi-Oh route is superior. Just make new protagonists and settings every few years that cater to whatever is popular with the target audience at the time but keep it all in one universe.
