ITT: Cartoons that pissed off your parents

My mother wasn't fond of the South Park scientology episode (the only one she ever saw). No, it's not what you think. It's just that her reaction after seeing this episode was something along the lines of
>Ok so they made fun of this stupid thing that apparently exists? Now what? I don't get it, what's the point of wasting your time making something like this?
Though that was nearly a decade ago. Her outlook on life has become way more jaded and bitter since then. She might enjoy it now.
My mom banned my brothers and I from watching family guy when she watched the 2nd part of stewie kills lois with us.
That was 2007, fuck I wanna go back.
My mom threatened to ban any cartoon that used language like “stupid”, “shut up”, or “fart”. My parents also found EEnE super annoyingly loud, but thankfully they still let us watch it.
My dad was always very adamant about not letting my sister and I watch King of the Hill for some reason. I don't think he ever told us why. Probably some bs he heard from a coworker.
>be me
>my mom is nice but overworked and out of touch with media that isn't "muh girl power"
>also kind of racist to asians
>she thinks anime and cartoon characters have giant eyes because "Asian animators are jealous of American's bigger eyes"
>completely banned me from watching any anime until I was 11
Both my mom and my grandma also banned me from watching action cartoons because they thought they were too violent. They were paranoid about me being influenced to become "evil." Hell, they didn't like me playing Lego Batman because you could play as the villains
Dad hated a lot of shows. Here are some examples.
>Ren and Stimpy, Cow and Chicken, Ed Edd n Eddy, Adventure Time
He thought they looked stupid, refused to watch them with me, got mad whenever I turned them on. Oddly enough, he loved Two Stupid Dogs. What gets me, is that his boomer friends loved Adventure Time. Don't know what it is that made him hate it so much.
>Bobby's World
He thought Bobby was ugly and banned the house from watching it.
>Doug
I have no idea. Whenever I turned it on, he'd go, "We are not watching Doug" and changed the channel.
He was like that for non-Yas Forums shows too.
>Ready or Not
Said it's girly bullshit, wouldn't let anyone watch it, even if girls were in the room.
>Jet Jackson
Said it was boring and shitty, didn't want me watching boring shows.
>Digimon
Sometime around Series Two, right after the Digimon Emperor plot, he shouted, "This show is STUPID" and left the room. He still took me to see the Digimon movie, though. Thanks, Dad.
>king of the hill episode on christians
>mom iss a christian
>no longer allowed to watch king of the hill
thanks mike
your dad sounds like a faggot
>I had to hide the fact that I watched power rangers because father thought it was too violent
Thanks for dragging that fun memory up OP
What does he like?
>Chinese American
>Parents thought "aw man" was a bad word and banned it after my sister and I quoted Swiper the Fox
>Years later piece together it was because it sounded "amen" and they were atheists despite sending me to a Christian private school for early elementary
He liked BTAS, Batman Beyond, Superman, Jsutice League, a bunch of other superhero shows, Power Rangers (until Turbo, which he said is when it started sucking), Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Gummi Bears, Underdog, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and probably a bunch of other stuff I'm not thinking off.
He also loved anime/live action Japanese stuff, but mostly older stuff. Think Speed Racer, Astro Boy, Ultraman, G-Force, and Mobile Suit Gundam (he didn't like Gundam Wing or Dragonball).
Now that I think about it, he also hated Home Movies, which is odd because Mom loved Home Movies.
Based mum dabbing on chinks
So your father's a petulant a spiteful, power-tripping asshole? Sounds like you had a normal life.
Your parents sound interesting user
Same. My mom banned it after seeing how many explosions were in it lol. I also wasn’t allowed to watch yugioh, Rin and Stimpy, Grim Adventures, or Invader Zim.
Mom didn't let me watch EEnE or Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. I think it was because she thought the characters were too mean to each other. I never got along with my brother when I was younger (just typical sibling rivalry shit, we're friends of sorts now though we don't talk much), and she thought those two shows were a bad influence. She also made me turn off the episode of Teen Titans where Robin fights Slade because she thought it was too violent. I think she stopped caring when I was about 10 though, still felt weird to talk to some of my friends about episodes I just watched that had actually come out like three years ago.
My mum forbade us from watching Ed Edd n Eddy because she thought the characters were too mean to one another.
Anything made by Klasky-Csupo because it looked ugly.
So apparently, Chicken Little was a girl in some early version of the film. They included this as a deleted scene, or an Easter Egg or something on the DVD

My sisters and I think it's pretty funny, but my dad sees it out of context and assumes it's some cross-dressing shit
>Whenever I turned it on, he'd go, "We are not watching Doug" and changed the channel.
Sounds like he saved you from empathising with an autistic beta orbiter
My mom hated EEnE and DBZ. Said they were too violent and loud.
My mum didn't like the Fairly Odd Parents because Timmy's parents were depicted as stupid and I guess she thought that would rub off on me and my sister. She also commented that Spongebob was "weird" but let us watch it. Oddly she let us watch Ren & Stimpy even though we literally would peek from behind the fridge when it would get particularly graphic.
My mum is odd when it comes to cartoons. There was a distinct period where she suddenly stopped taking us to see animated movies at the theater - I remember it was around the time of The Incredibles - she'd see the trailer for things like that and just sneer "Oh, that's WEIRD." Yet she still has a fondness for the things we watched together back in the day, like Wallace & Gromit. She'd never choose to watch it though.
Damn, that's kind of bizarre. Were they religious in any way?
>Adventure Time
>Kid
Fucking kill yourself zoomer.
These threads always make me grateful that my parents weren't massive fucking retards.
They hated the Cartoon Network shows from the mid 2000s, as they felt they were inferior compared to the cartoons during the Cartoon Cartoons era.
My mom was strict, but I understand her reasoning for the most part and am thankful for it now. I saw what little shitheads kids turned out to be when their parents didn’t care and let them watch and do whatever they wanted. I guess it’s about balance at the end of the day.
I don't why my Mom never wanted me to watch Avatar of all things. She sees me watch Spongebob, Danny Phantom, and Megas XLR but Avatar is the show she steps in and tells me to stop
Can't wait to watch future cartoons with my kids. They won't be shit... Right?
Most of these stories are going to be about moralizing moms looking for shit to complain about
Feels weird growing up in a religious family but not having any of the restrictions I'm seeing in this thread. Only rule was "no swearing" and "no sex", and they were even kinda lax on the first so long as I didn't repeat the bad language.
>zoomer
>lists a bunch of 90s shows
His dad hated AT because his son was a 30yo watching a show for 10yos
There will be some great ones, I’m sure. Plus you can rewatch all of your old favorites with them. I’m really looking forward to watching cartoons with my kids and having them experience the same kind of joy that I did. I wonder how similar or different our tastes will be.
that's the dumbest fucking thing
My Dad unironically loved SMFA, as he was a huge fan of Beavis and Butthead and heavy metal aesthetic. My Mom didn't care for it and thought it was just a stupid grossout cartoon with no substans and didn't allow me to watch it when Dad wasn't around.
Based af
>stoped until turbo
He missed in space which is the best final for the show, damn
They were mostly right.
Maybe she thought the whole reincarnation thing would make you go all spiritual? I dunno, that is an odd one.
Your mom was right.
Mom wouldn't let me watch Foster's, mostly because of Blue. In her words she said the show teaches people to be jerks.
I wasn't allowed to watch SpongeBob until I was 5.
My parents wouldn't let me watch EEnE until I was 21.
I was pretty impressionable as a kid, and would quote advertisements constantly and apply cartoon logic to everything, so I can understand a bit of why they wouldn't want me watching EEnE.
Spongebob is zoomershit, your parents had good taste.
OH yeah, I forgot another one, it took a while for my dad to let me watch Chowder. I have no idea what his reasonings for that one were.
My parents absolutely hated zoomers so I wasn't allowed to watch any cartoons made after 2003 since 2004 marked the year were Cartoon Network and Nick went to shit.
Thankfully it paid off, I didn't grow up with zoomerfaggot shows and instead used the Internet from there on out, which is also were I found my first job.
>Chowder
>Kid
Kill yourself zoomer.
My mom was the one that got me into Ren and Stimpy. Hell, she even got the Christmas CD... for herself.
Now my aunt was the one you couldn't have fun around, mainly because "cartoons give kids ideas", and my cousin was a parasitic psycho anyway.
Same, she hated when Sarah was onscreen and they told each other to shut up. Though she was an artist and liked the art direction on the title cards for Ed Edd and Eddy as well as the theme song. She also hated me watching Suite life of Zack and Cody for similar reasons and told me the TV was training me to be misbehaved. This was my first major mind blow and mad me think about that maybe the TV was influencing me.
I remember my mum hating Ed Edd n Eddy, I don't think she any idea what it was about or even called, I think she just thought it looked stupid.
no one ever accuses your average fedora tipper of being intelligent.
Why do you have a fridge in your living room?
I never said "living room." We had a small TV in the kitchen.
Later on my sister and I would watch cartoons and anime in the den (where the video game consoles were anyway) so the judgement didn't happen anymore.
Reading this thread gives me flashbacks. I was always allowed to watch EEnE with no problem, but I always heard other kids say they couldn't watch it because the characters misbehaved and acted like delinquents which made it a bad influence.
Nope, not at all. They were just really worried about psychological effects. In retrospect at least, my grandma knew most of the stuff was harmless. And they both liked Samurai Jack, so that was my one exception.
My dad wouldn't let me watch Family Guy because he claimed it was super-adult and no kids should watch it. A few years later, I found out it was mostly because he didn't want to watch it after the first 9 minutes of the pilot proved to be some of the worst TV he ever personally watched.
My Mom hated the Simpsons because of the Angel Skeleton episode and banned the show for my and my siblings.
>>Doug
>I have no idea. Whenever I turned it on, he'd go, "We are not watching Doug" and changed the channel.
To be fair, that is a normal reaction to Doug
My mom was super strict in everything except for cartoons.
My mom banned catscratch and grim adventures when she was watching tv with me,
because the theme song to those shows pissed her off
