Why were Sam Raimi's Spider man movies way better than any of the MCU movies put together?
Why were Sam Raimi's Spider man movies way better than any of the MCU movies put together?
Unironically SOUL.

^ftfy OP
MCU was off to a good start, but they got really generic and lost any sense of style, became too lowest common denominator, assembly line made, etc, they still do some good stuff here and there but much of it does feel very by the books
Raimi Spider-Man movies, regardless of how you feel about them (I'm not crazy about them myself) have their own style and their own world
Because they were Spider-Man movies and not Iron Man sequels
Iron man 1 is good
That was because Favreau had more control. Most consider IM1 to be one of, if not, the best MCU movies.
Something must have happened in the last 13 years
Because Sam Raimi is a better filmmaker than pretty much anyone involved in the MCU.
I can't see past the whole "These 30 year olds are teens, we swear". And the cheesiness of it doesn't feel like superhero cheesiness to me, it feels like b-movie cheesiness. They're OK films, but I unironically like MCU Spiderman more. He's not much of a Spiderman, but as a superhero movie, it works way better and feels more true to the tone of most comicbooks in general.
That’s because Raimi is a b-movie Director lol
>OP picked the NPC Yas Forums starter pack
Nice, a new retard.
Nostalgia and contrarianism
I'll try my best
>horrible fucking CGI (style over substance) in Disney's movies
>suits in Raimi's movies looked better and were actual suits instead of CGI
>web swinging in Raimi's movies was actually present because New York was used as a whole instead of just Queens (the ASM movies knocked that out of the park though and were even better than Raimi's movies)
>Peter wasn't a pathetic fanboy but was able to stand on his own instead of being reliant on another superhero
>the story focus was always on Peter, his loved ones, friends, and villains instead of Iron Man
>there were campy but interesting dialogues instead of constant quips and jokes while still maintaining a comicbook-like style
>the camera work was interesting
>the actors were great
>the soundtrack was compelling instead of generic
Feel free to correct me if you feel I'm wrong
>And the cheesiness of it doesn't feel like superhero cheesiness to me, it feels like b-movie cheesiness
Nigga wat? Superhero cheesiness IS b-movie cheesiness like 95% of the time
>as a superhero movie, it works way better and feels more true to the tone of most comicbooks in general.
maybe if you're reading crossovers. The Disney Spidey movies feel nothing like his solo runs. If we're talking about the tone then you would literally have to pick both ASM movies instead of the Disney version
More risks! You will never see Peter refusing to save a black church thats on fire in the MCU
>Npc
Your more of a NPC if you like MCU's Spidey
>suits in Raimi's movies looked better and were actual suits instead of CGI
The mcu suits have been real (except iron spider obviously) but they smooth over the wrinkles in post which makes it look fake
Superhero cheesiness is most certainly not B-Movie cheesiness. B-movie cheesiness is jank, acting that's kind of stilted, that sort of thing. It can be charming, but it doesn't really occur in any comic I've ever read.
"He's not much of a Spiderman", I said. I agree it doesn't match the tone of HIS comics. I just think it matches the tone of marvel comics in general better than most other superhero movies. New York, bunch of heroes everywhere, small time sorts of villains interacting with shield, that sort of thing. It's even visual and rooted in the aesthetics as much as anything else, and the sense of humor.
If you think about the Marvel comics universe as conceptualized generically in, say, squirrelgirl, Nextwave, Gwenpool, or another parody, it looks like MCU spiderman more than any other superhero movie. The essence of the tone, that is inflected on in specific ways by each separate series.
I prefer Iron Man if I had to pick one Marvel hero movie, but Raimi’s Spidey films have a large place in my heart, even if it’s just nostalgia. I can always enjoy the parts where the New Yorkers rally behind Pete the most.
Raimi's Peter feels more authentic than most of the MCU cast because the movies commit more to his uncoolness, whereas the MCU uses self-depreciating jokes as just another form of quips.
When Peter cries, feels frustrated or wants to give up it comes off as a lot more genuinely vulnerable than when Thor or Tony have their requisite sad moment in-between two gags.
I think that's the key.
The best Spider-Man movie would reflect TAS and the comic books more than anything else for inspiration. No Ultimate influence, no second banana to other heroes.
unironically this guy
He actually cared and likely didn’t have as much of a committee controlling it.
There is yet to be a spidey film that doesn’t borrow from 1610 to at least some degree unfortunately
I agree with this, the uncoolness is what really sells Raimi Peter
because you think on nostalgia
This. I like Raimi in general as a director. I've been rooting for him since he was an indie and I was very glad to see him land such a big property and manage to do so well with it.
He also managed, against all odds to not sell out his directorial style in the process. His Spider-man movies all have this unique surreal feeling that lends itself to the comic book and movie medium.
It really feels like he made the movie HE wanted to make while simultaneously retaining enough of the source material to appease everyone. I mean I genuinely don't like Toby McGuire as an actor or as a person with the one exception of him as peter Parker solely because of Raimis direction.
they were shit thanks to tobey maguire.
the man cannot act to save his life and needed his villains to carry the film, which is why the whole franchise flopped when they cast an actor who couldn't carry a film as venom
It's the only one that has proper "with great power comes great responsibility" theme.
They're not.
I'm here to warn ya kid, in a few moments a group of salty mcu tards will stumble upon this thread and spam the same shit memes about how tom Holland and Disney is based, just warning ya kid
>TAS
a film based on the "Peter Parker IS the Spectacular Spider-Man" comics would be better
why did Tony stop murdering everybody that crossed his path?
dude "philanthrope" lol
he never stopped trying, his enemies just got better at surviving
They are already here. Hammering in the "Muh Nostalgia" argument
>everybody has to conform to MY shit taste
Full on rapist?
Why did everyone start worshiping Kevin Feige when Jon Favreau was the one who created the Marvel formula? All Feige does is rip Favreau off and does it worse.
What I mean is, the Animated Series influence of how it condensed tons of years of history into a shorter timespan, like movies would presumably do but still not going quite as far to reinvent things as the movies have
And basically, I would like a Peter I don't either pity or think is a loser, I never got that impression from comic Peter or TAS Peter, he's kind of a smug jerkoff and is a science nerd, but he's not some punk or a complete sadsack oaf either. This is one element I did like about the Andrew Garfield or whatever Peter, but they still didn't nail it either making him seem a bit too cool for school.
>Likes Iron-boy
>Unironically calls other people out
Wait I thought we now hated Raimi since he works on a MCU movie now.
Feige spend millions of dollars advertising himself as such
Says the user who dickrides anything disney makes and attacks anyone who hates Disney
>Why were Sam Raimi's Spider man movies way better than any of the MCU movies put together?
The fresh approach to race realism and holocaust denial and disregarding Hollywoods special interests in those subject was unexpected and much appreciated.
Raimi's intensely bad at writing dialogue. None of his characters sound natural. Also, his Mary Jane is the worst incarnation of the character by far. She's selfish, manipulative and insensitive.
It's just a dumbed down Spidey. The original learned his lesson the hard way. Several times. And that made him a better person, not without issues as anyone, but a good character all around.
Disney Spiderman is just a teen who loves to be a superhero and is respected by everyone without doing shit.
Original had to earn everybody's respect and still there are people who underestimate him.
Fuck, I really miss the real person portrayal of Spiderman. Not something that is just serious enough to not traumatize teenagers kids.
He’s got the emotional core of peter right and the bulk of the supporting cast is perfect but he dropped the ball on really understanding how the story of spider-man progresses, I can’t tell you how much I wish he did enough research to realize that Gwen would’ve been a better start because he could play up the weird MJ angle better on top of being able to kill Gwen in the third movie
If Gwen was the love interest all along, then her death in the third movie would be ending the trilogy on a dour note, and MJ would have big shoes to fill in Spider-Man 4, assuming it gets made. Also would Venom kill her, cause I don't see Harry or Sandman doing it.
>I can't see past the whole "These 30 year olds are teens, we swear".
In all fairness they're out of highschool halfway through the movie. By the end of the movie Peters done with his first semester of college.
Kill yourself racist scum
Peter would kill her.
>it feels like b-movie cheesiness
That is Raimi for you.
i have been called a 30 yo since i was in highschool just because im tall. Age is a big fucking meme.
>I unironically like MCU Spiderman more.
No you dont, you like the feel, but there is nothing about the characters other than vulture that stands out.
God I love that costume...
literally the only MCU movie I've bothered watching was homecoming and while I didn't hate it (the stuff with the vulture in particular was really good) it had problems. by far the largest one was that it didn't feel like peter was his own hero. the best way I could describe it is that this almost felt like a spinoff a sidekick would get with the "main" hero being iron man. and when I haven't been watching a decade of iron man movies and I have zero connection to this particular version of the character that's a real dampener.
Contrarian
Why was mary wearing a chinese dress?
>*objective
Sorry I've been drinking these movies are pwrfevt
>He had time to write them
>Actors gave a shit
>He had a policy of making villians feel like they were in a horror movie which made them super memorable, compared to say, Hella who acts and fells like a disney princess villian even after fucking taking thor's eye
>Films were generally a lot more intense and violent
>Films were fresh at the time
>Spiderman
Fuck off, you don't fare about this character
>Mary
Nostalgia. But they still are great movies. Something as good as spidey 2 form the mcu Ironman and guardians maybe IW/EG. That's it. Is Rayman 100% confirmed for DS 2 btw?
So you don't like any other Raimi's movies.
