>I might be a rapist, but at least I’m not pretentious!
And also from a Meg episode
>It’s ok to be abused as everyone else is happy while abusing you. In fact, that makes you strong.

Hated that Quagmire episode as much as I hated the last two seasons of Bojack.

> wrote a character to be a certain way
> dedicate entire scenes bashing that character instead of taking responsibility as a writer and providing character growth/introspection

It's the most condescending trash where you're told how to feel about a certain person just because you've become embarrassed of your own audience. End the show or just have the character distance themselves from that, not this performative horse shit.

>No one is actually bad, they just need to be talked to
It annoys me because I think that a lot of modern media likes to ignore that some people are just inherently unable to be reasoned with. In SU’s case it honestly felt disingenuous.

>>No one is actually bad, they just need to be talked to
They had an entire episode about how some people just like being assholes and can't be talked no jutsu

Quagmire was in the right, though.

The entire episode backfired, Stewie basically told Brian that's ok to be an asshole because you love yourself.

The worst episode that follows the Quagmire-Brian dynamic is the one where Brian has big teeth and tricks Quagmire into buying shitty property. I don't know how any of them could go back to having Brian as a friend after the shit he pulled.

>God is not real even though we've met the actual literal Jesus Christ
>and Santa Slaus
>and actual ghosts
>and I had to tell Peter that god was pissed about Peter being worshipped so Chris wouldn't die
>And Peter knows the literal grim reaper

I put that episode in the same basket as that episode with the Lapises: yeah, it briefly breaks from the show's usual "talking is the solution" ethos, but it's more a brief aside than an actual admission that alternate approaches can be valid.

because it's a show where the status quo reins supreme

another big offender being the episode about Quagmire's mother.

The show is for kids, and has a hopeful tone, of course they aren't going to take a lot of time to undercut their own message.

Aren't both Quagmire and Brian rapists?

Brian raped a "non sapient" dog and sexually assaulted Lois several times through there was no sex. So I don't think he's legally a rapist, Quagmire in the other hand is a serial rapist that frequently go to bars to drug and then rape women.

I might get banned for this but MLP once had an episode about bullying and the moral was ultimately "It's wrong to retaliate against a bully, just tell an adult."

The problem however was that the bully (Babs Seed) had assaulted the kids in front of an adult and nothing happened. So the moral came off to basically everyone as "Whatever you do, you can't defend yourself or you'll get in trouble. Also tell an adult and hope they want to help you."

He had sex with an underage woman and left a college woman with a kid

Brian is only 7 tho

Quagmire also has a bed that has built in restraints to both trap a woman and change their positions. It's funny how he's a literal rapist yet they try using his as a moral mouth piece on some issues

>getting your morals from a cartoon

>Quagmire in the other hand is a serial rapist that frequently go to bars to drug and then rape women
Casual viewer here. Is this a post-cancelation "everybody is horrible now" thing or has it been like that since early on? I thought he was supposed to be a pervert, but within legal bounds.

>>It’s ok to be abused as everyone else is happy while abusing you. In fact, that makes you strong.
That was a fucking joke you mongs it wasn't mean to be taken seriously as a moral message the punchline is how divorced and in utter contrast with what the right thing to do is. Why do fags pretend otherwise?

>having lesbian moms would give you PTSD

why do Yas Forums fags always go on about "derr hurr quagmire is a rapist". the times we ever see him actually rape a girl is with marge (who liked it) and with a girl who didnt tell him she was a minor

>doesn't know how to greentext
>calling anyone else an invader

this scene was pre cancellation but it was probably the origin of the rapist jokes

Anytime Family Guy tried to have morals, it just came off as cringy and contradictory. You're a comedy show, just stick to the comedy.

you're a real simpleton if that's what you are taking away from this thread

I get the whole “don’t make a character an unrepentant asshole and then expect the audience to feel bad for them” but the op reminded me of the yt cartoon critic/tvtroper-type rant.

>I might be a rapist, but
He doesn't say that though. Brian asks Quagmire why he doesn't like him and Quagmire lists off all the very true bad character traits that Brian possesses.
If your take away was that the problem was that Quagmire was just in the wrong because he didn't have the moral high ground you are a unobservant smoothbrain. The real problem with the episode, and this point in the series, is that the writers know that Brain has slowly changed into a shitty character fewer and fewer people like and instead of just giving him a little redemption they just had an immoral gag character point out all these flaws as if that would fix everything. Really it just makes things worse, since afterwards Brian makes no attempts at curbing these behaviors.

Did the Eltingville pilot come to early. Considering how popular shows with a horrible cast are these days, do you suppose it could have caught on?

I think you might be in the wrong thread, but yes.

Looks like you forgot that Quagmire constantly compared himself to Brian over the speech, he even says
>"at least I'm honest about it"
When this is not even true, he secretly rapes women, he's far worse than a sex addict, he's a dangerous criminal.

What does Santa Claus have to do with God though?

He's a catholic saint.

>Writers force specific scenarios on a character that are just a bunch of melodrama that don't actually development the character, and all they do is make the audience (and the writers) hate and blame that character
This shit happened in Regular Show and it drives me up the fucking wall.
>Force Mordecai to break things off with Margaret because she's moving away to go to college (even though long-distance relationships are very much a thing)
>Have the character get with someone completely new
>Reintroduce Margaret for the sole purpose of breaking Mordecai and his new girlfriend up
>Leave it at that and only that, and then have him get with some random no name chick in the finale as he walks around somber and depressed for the entire last season

Attached: Mordecai break up.png (1276x713, 754.19K)

None of that undermines the point smoothy. Even if you're 100% correct. Even if Quagmire was far worse than you describe it wouldn't matter. That isn't the problem with the episode.

To be fair, long distance usually does not work.

Bojack was clearly based on someone the writer knows, possibly an amalgamation of several Hollywood shitheads they were forced to endure.

That describes Sakura from Naruto pretty well too. Kishimoto made a bad character and then acted as if none of her shittiness was his fault.

Mama taught me otherwise.

>>No one is actually bad, they just need to be talked to
If Becky ever does an AMA, I am totally asking what the fuck she means by that. It's such a cynical take that no one wants to hand it out, but it is true. Next thing you know, you'll have kids making pen pals with murderers or some shit thinking they can change if they just keep pestering them.

>They had an entire episode about how some people just like being assholes and can't be talked no jutsu
Yeah, I know how that feeling, the problem with most PSAs about Bullying is that they think that all bullies are bullies because they have a hard life, but in all honesty most of the time bullies are just bullies because they find enjoyment at making fun of you,

I mean one of the PSA cartoons I was interested for a little while was "Stop Bullying Now", and not just because of that hot teenage anthro dog girl that they focus on, it's because of how realistic the bullying can be (or at least as real as it can show being for kids), check it out

Just because Quagmire also sucks doesn't mean that Brian's suckage is invalidated. Everything he said about Brian is true.

Every single female Naruto character sucks,

Yeah, because Kishi's a sexist.

>implaying im still watching trash universo
Come on user, im not that stupid, they ruined theri chance for redemption a long time ago

Kids need to know more than anyone that sometimes you can't talk your way out of bad things happening.
But that's not on SU to teach them. They have parents.

That’s not the original series.

Reminder that no matter what bad shit Quagmire's done, at least he never infected a baby with herpes.

He did have sex with Lois when he was in Peter's body.

The Brian/Quagmire scene is shitty not because either of them are morally better than the other, but because it was Family Guy's response to people being upset that Brian had strayed so far from his Season 1-3 characterization, and that someone thought "a character pointing out the same character flaws that the audience is annoyed with" was akin to fixing those flaws.

WHO SPEAKS THY HORSE SHOW'S NAME ON Yas Forums?

You weren’t kidding about that dog, she’s hella cute. Cannot find any art of her or the other characters tho.

Yeah, it's like the creators were trying to make a spoof of sitcom rivalry with those two, but watching them go at each other is like watching two assholes bicker in real life - mildly distracting for the first minute and then just very annoying.

any time that moralfag douche trip Minifag posts

SEETHING REDDITORS

Mordecai is a college dropout, the show was supposed to be moving in real time so I think Mordecai was supposed to be almost 30 when it ended
Margaret's age is unclear but I'm guessing she's not 18 when she starts college but in her 20s

In any case I've seen scenarios like that where the girl believes she's "moving up" and her guy isn't so she dumps him. Women don't like "men lacking ambition". Of course men hate golddiggers, so it seems like no one is happy.

Coca-Cola man is an advertisement, the character of Santa Claus is tangentially connected to Saint Nicolas of Anatolia probably for reasons of winning over Christians to coke. The character is also thought to take elements of Wodan as a wise old man. There is also speculation that wild hunts are based on gods like Wodan and Dagda after the rise of Christianity relegated the old gods to "fae" instead of divinities since the people weren't entirely willing to turn them into demons like Jupiter and the other Olympians.

Especially when it has the opposite effect and makes the audience sympathize with a character.

>try to stain bojack because you don't like the fact that weinstein felt he was "relatable" to him
>forget that bojack didn't do anything wrong or there were other people equally culpable like the cunt who got him on the pills in the first place, act like bojack is 1000% guilty when the audience knows that's a lie, act shocked when people call you a hack

Don't retcon shit just to justify your terrible plot.

>people like being assholes

People are just assholes period. I don't talk much and keep to myself without bothering others and people will actually go out of their way to fuck with me because it makes me seem like an easy target or they don't like the fact I'm not overly social. I just want to be left alone to work and people try to turn the office into a highschool classroom. Fucking immature manchildren.
