So I heard there was a test screening at WB for their Tom and Jerry live action/Stylized CGI hybrid film earlier today. I'm asking if anyone happened to attended the screening and possibly give some insight as to what the they are going for in terms of the animation style and overall tone of the film.
I've seen pieces of leaked concept art as well as storyboards for the film and I'm really liking what they're implying: That this is going to be more cartoonier than and more in the vein of films like Roger Rabbit or Looney Tunes: Back In Action than Alvin and The Chipmunks, Smurfs, etc. Really would appreciate if I could get some more info. Thanks.
I just hope both Tom and Jerry are likeable characters with a bit of depth to their emotions. I'm sure they won't do the talking shit again so that also means some media that is forced to focus on visual conveying of emotions instead of dialogue.

Who asked for this
Jordan Morgan
Clearly nobody here has seen it if you’ve had to make the same thread twice in the last five fucking hours.
Isaiah Torres
I’m down for it as long as they learned their lessons from the last one
It was weird it was like Disneys The rescuers but with a Tom and Jerry skin, it had some weird musical numbers and a ton and Jerry that could talk fluently
Easton Anderson
It looks sounds and functions just like on of those straight to DVD Tom and Jerry movies you see today, only difference is Tom and Jerry talk in this one(yet the mouthflaps don't match to the sounds their making so it's even more shit to add to the pile).
It’s more bizarre than bad to me. It’s pretty much every type of movie except a Tom and Jerry one. Still, the song the thug cats sing was actually pretty good.
Kayden Lewis
To be fair, they added more to the plot in this one that in the straight to DVD movies.
Wyatt Gomez
I used to be sad that nothing has been done with Felix the Cat since the 90s, and now I'm not.
Droopy really needs to have a starring role again, him just having cameos in Tom & Jerry material is lame
Noah Brooks
It has that really really ugly direct to video fluid, yet silted animation style from that time.
You see it a lot of many cartoon 3DO games
Luke Nguyen
Basically, the beginning was like a real episode of Tom and Jerry, then after the house was demolished, they started talking, things got weird. The way the movies ends is with Tom and Jerry getting into a new house and falling right back into their old habits, silently making eachother lives hell. It kinda works.
Brayden Clark
The way Tom and Jerry look on this poster makes me angry
Joshua Johnson
>tfw OG Tom and Jerry animator Irven Spence did his finally pieces of animation in this film
Ian James
WB has shut everything down on their Burbank lots and has most of their staff working from home. I doubt the screening went on as planned.
Connor Thomas
Ooh, do you know some of the shots he might've animated?
I have no idea. The film is so samey in look that not even Irven Spence's legendary style, gif related, is recognized.
All I know for sure is that OG Tom and Jerry animator Kenneth Muse definitely animated this shot from 0:48-0:53 of the 1975 Tom and Jerry Show intro as well as OG animator Ed Barge at 0:40-0:41. I have good eyes:
>tfw we will never see Tom portraying the masculinity of the 50's-70's because it's ruined by sjw's
Jackson Jackson
Well, they're doing those Looney Tunes revival shorts too and those look great.
Hunter Baker
Used to watch this all the fucking time when I was younger because we had it on DVD. I mainly remember liking the opening slapstick and the ending slapstick.
Aiden Rodriguez
Does it have a sexy CGI Red in it? I can just about forgive the rest of that travesty of an idea, if it does.
I liked watching it until they talked, yea. I enjoyed the short time at their old house. Always felt bad about the people that lost Tom though. Especially if they could have thought he fell out while they were travelling.
Carter Price
Similarly, will they learn from what Oggy did to keep their longevity?
Like a bad attempt at Disney musicals except with way too much going on in top of the usual cliches. You know how the Marx Brothers got increasingly watered down in their later movies that featured their antics taking place alongside some melodramatic plotline involving characters that weren't played for humor? Imagine that mixed in with some bizarre musical sequences and character designs.
Despite being a collection of longer length episodes, the O&C movie was alright
Nicholas Davis
I can't believe this show is still on, is or really that popular?
Carson Thompson
Yeah it helps it's still funny
Blake Diaz
I guess so
Bentley Powell
lol
Jose Davis
Haven't seen the screening but I do know someone that worked on pre-vis for this film. From what little they were allowed to say I wouldn't get your hopes up OP, they described the job as "soul crushing".
Nathan Jenkins
What do you mean "soul crushing"? What did they say?
Hunter Jackson

It sounded like one of those productions where the crew had a lot of good ideas that got steamrolled by executives with bad ideas. There was definitely mention of one of the higher ups insisting that either Tom or Jerry do that flossing dance "because kids are into it", which was already old news when I heard this, it's going to be even more out of date by the time it comes out.
