Eternal /shelf/ thread

What have we been buying recently, Yas Forums? Are you stockpiling trades and floppies in the event of a lockdown?

I decided that my shelves were lacking in a little....Death

Upcoming Omnibus/Hardcovers:

Playing catch up with Dredd myself, just finished Dark Justice. Fun little read if not a little alien rip offy.

Haven't ordered anything this past few weeks as a bday is coming up so gonna wait for that as I've made an amazon list and told people to get off that or amazon vouchers. When you get older you have what you want anyway so genuinely prefer the vouchers.

That said at the start of the year I said my new years resolution is to get through my physical back log of comics (including th remainder of the judge dredd mega collection I've had kicking about un read since like 2018.) I set my target as 50 and just beat it the other day.

Hasn't made a dent in my actual back log but it's still something.

>tfw watching a Cartoonist Kayfabe mail video and a comic comes up you'd love to have on your shelf, but it's so obscure and old there's literally no way to get your hands on it unless you manage to personally get in contact with the creator and ask him if he has any floppies for sell or cross your fingers and hope someone puts them up for sell online for a ridiculous price
Sucks, bros.

I stocked up on some trades and single issues yeah.

>silver age legion of superheroes omnibus vol 1
>Bendis’ Superman including the man of steel trade paperback, the first 2 hard covers, and single issues from issue 16 to 21
>the first 4 issues of Bendis LoSH
>the first 2 trades of rebirth flash
>justice league issues 40-42
>dan abnett titans trades 5 and 6 (which I think are the last rebirth issues and the first DCU issues)
>silver age JLA
>justice league odyssey trade paperback number 2
>Donny Cates Thor issues 1-4

If I get quarantined, I’ll probably bite the bullet and read issues online or digitally

Part of my indigo/chapters order showed up. I might order more before the month is up (and just not get the bonus reward points).
>The Fade Out Complete Collection (paperback)
>Saucer Country (the IDW complete reprint of the Vertigo ongoing, minus the awful Saucer State)
>John Constantine, Hellblazer vol 16
>Swamp Thing: Protector of the Green (actually a bit pissed at this. contents are different from what's on DC's website, but do match the amazon description)
>A Whole Lot of L'il Gotham
>Northlanders Book 2

I have Starstruck, Vamps Complete, and Swamp Thing Bronze Age vol 1 (tpb) in the mail.

I got Looney Tunes platinum 1-3 collections. Is there any other DVDs that doesn't overlap with it? I think there's a golden collection and all-stars, but I don't know how much they overlap with the platinum collection.

oh....oh, thank you for this thread. You have no clue what you unlocked. I just woke up and will be taking photos, but my LCS just put up a liquidation sale and getting rid of a ton of books for $5 each and I went wild. spent what would have been over $600

Ask Yas Forums
This isn't the place for this.

What do you guys define as the end of the silver age?

For me, it’s either 1970 and the new gods or crisis on infinite earths

The Platinum's collected some that were never on the Golden DVD's, but the Platinum's were lacking in general.
There were 356 cartoon shorts released on the six Golden collections, and 150 shorts total across the three Platinum releases.

GL/GA for DC (especially heroin addict Roy) and the death of Gwen Stacy for Marvel.

Hard to say an exact date as things compiled over time and make things rather messy as cause and effects can blind us with a simplified narrative. But I'll go with Crisis as the definitive killing blow to the Silver Age. Before then, the first great big blow to DC's Silver Age was Mort Weisinger leaving in 1970. He kept each of Superman's titles on the top of the sells chart for decades. Marvel's Silver Age closed when Kirby left for the DC but I still think this era classifies as the tail end of the Silver Age even though it wasn't pure, both companies were turning out awesome titles. Times were changing with books like Conan and the monsters anti-heroes made a comeback. The Silver Age heroes limped during these transformative years until the day when Julius Schwartz last Green Lantern issue in 78 came out. Fanboys became the creators of content while it did expand the superhero tropes, it also caused for it receded into obscurity for the Bronze Age to takes its place.

Is the Jenkin's Incredible Hulk run any good? I have the oportunity to get it for a good price, but I'm starting to run short on space.

I honestly dont know where to start with Judge Dredd but I sure want to

casefile volume 1, or whenever they switched to color.

ya GL/GA is where I make the line, it's a pretty hard line at DC desu

Oh boi, new stuff time. Feel free to make fun of me for my Byrne Patrol. It's my cross to bear as a Doom completionist.

thanks /shelf/ for recommending this Talbot book last thread, the art looks AMAZING

What are some quarantine kinos?

Attached: 1583513556903.jpg (3630x2761, 1.8M)

I haven't read it but Quarentine Zone >113658592
looks right up that alley, lots of crying people from just flipping though it

so basically, I have bought almost $800 worth of comics for less than $200. I love liquidation sales

Attached: 1566737202052.jpg (2556x3919, 1.21M)

spontaneous generation goes for a lot on the secondary market

ya, there's a few in this haul that are OOP and that's part of why I grabbed them. I just still want that swamp thing for my collection

Got my 3rd 2000ad covers hardback. This ones the 80s. Just got the 70s to go and then that will be that complete and wont have to worry about getting charged an extra 12 quid on top of what I already pay for the ultimate collection.

Case files 01 if you're willing to enjoy cheese, 04 if you're willing to enjoy more focused stories, honestly Dredd got great when Wagner and Grant started working together.

You could just look up major storylines and get the 'trade' versions of them I guess.

Mileage may vary on Dredd. I'd definitely recommend get the Anderson case files regardless of what you do with Dredd. Grant's Anderson is the best run of a character, and I mean any character, I've come across.

It's odd. Maybe a week ago I started reading Sweet Tooth without knowing anything about it. Then the wuflu virus becomes a pandemic. Check it out if you're looking for a post apocalyptic journey. Does anyone else like lemire's art?

Rebellion are starting a new "Essentials" graphic novel line in September so that may be your best starting point. They're not in order, just what's considered the best stories.

didn't they cancel those X-Factor by PAD complete collections?

That's dope. Here's a question. What's a popular or critically acclaimed story or run you haven't yet read, but plan on doing so soon? Today I'm planning on reading, for the first time, TDKR.

i was supposed to go on a trip this week and now i'm trying super hard to not just spend that money on comics

They had most of Morrison’s X-Men at my LCS so I’m ordering the gaps and going to finally read that.

>LCS still hasn’t received Hell Arisen #3
Fucking stupid ass speculator market

Not him, but Yas Forums is THE place for Yas Forums related media. And shelf is the designated place for physical Yas Forums related media.

Where to? I heard since a lot of people are self quarantining, everywhere is empty.

>ask Yas Forums
You're silly, kid.

Not really a run in general, but I've actually barely read any Batman or X-men.
I've read a lot of adjacent books (like BoP and X-Men: Legacy), but not really the mainline stuff at all.

oh, okay. So, I should also get the golden collection?

Lemire's art is perfect for his pacing, it's just so easy to read.

I have no clue, but X-Factor by PAD is always praised so I don't know why they would.

I am currently reading Watchmen. It's....good, but I'm failing to see the hyping of it. I find his Swamp Thing and Promethea far better

not even on ebay or mycomicshop?

Only two Complete Collections came out. Breevort had a tumblr post in which he was asked about a third:
>Couldn’t say, sorry. But especially with the classic collections, once you get up to the third volume, it becomes difficult to get enough support to continue them—few people are interested in picking up the third volume without the first two, and so forth.
So the last one was in 2014, and no more.

hipcomic.com/listing/vendetta-holy-vindicator-1-4-vf-nm-complete-series-signed-numbered-rare/1547892

There was this, but that's it. Nowhere else online can you buy this comic. The guy who made it sent issues personally to Cartoonist Kayfabe and they obviously gushed all over it cause it looks rad as fuck. But yea that shit's super obscure.

X-men is half of Marvel sales these days, they better lock that shit down.

the fade out so good

What was the damage?

See:

I.Fucking.Love.Sweet Tooth.
Probably my favorite comic this century. It’s heart rending, though. I shed manly tears. Irrc, it’s Lemire’s unofficial prequel to Kamandi- which I love even more.

The remainder of Thomas/Buscema Conan the Barbarian.

Oh that's neat. I'm still early in the run. First fifteen issues or so.

Haha yep I remember trying to find these online with only 1 or 2 ebay listings asking a pretty penny. Maybe he'd consider reprinting some of these for those of us who'd like to have a copy.

Velvet is rad

I was gonna be a doom completionist but ultimately there's just too nany bad runs

>TOGETHER AGAIN, FOR THE FIRST TIME
oh that fuck's still rubbing it in

>A retcon soon to be retconned.

Why don't they make comics like that anymore? Shit looks radtastical.

Ive never read Sin City but was gifted the big damn version. I wanna read it but its so cumbersome. Ill slowly get through it

Sweet Tooth was excellent but Ill never read it again. It devastated me. I cant handle stuff done to kids

My stuff from last month. Waiting on a few IST packages

My books coming. Definitely hoping that Tales of the Demon isnt recolored since it didnt specify.

>tl;dr: It isn't the Adams special recolouring, or the recolouring he did for original reprints in the 1980s. It seems to be a mix of the original colours, and what the first trade looked like
>and the half-pages (half the page was an advertisement in the originals) are intact instead of the "remastered" full art that Adams later did.
>glued binding though

It fucking breaks me that those Alan Moore Supreme/Judgment Day trades are such fucking garbo and that the run might never get reprinted again. It deserves a full restroration hardcover god dammit

Haha. No kidding, I’ve tried to read it again and stalled out almost immediately.

Floppies from earlier. Grabbed some dollar bin stuff today too and forgot to snap a photo before it got packed away. Managed to complete a few Legends of the Dark Knight stories and Chain Gang War.

I was supposed to go to Vegas for a week but nope.

man that Velvet hardcover is sexy. fuck
