Why does DC hate Orion?
Jace Gomez
Christian Hill
Because since Super Friends and Adventure Comics ruined the New Gods reputation all the characters of the 4th world becomed just jokes.
Darkseid is just generic alien lord that can't even kill Superman with a mere touch.
Highfather is just space wizard.
Orion is just Wonder Woman's boyfriend that's weaker than earth's gods for some fucking reason.
Only Bryne and Morrison knows how make Kirby's Orion works
Christopher Hall
because he's an established character's son, and therefore ages said character, making him wholly unrelatable
Jaxon Fisher
No one really hates him. No one knows how to write him
Isaiah Torres
How bad were those Adventure Comics?
Nolan Parker
Is he the Cyclops of DC?
Julian Adams
and why does DC keep on pushing Mister Miracle and Big Bardathey are even making them the main characters of the New Gods movie even though Orion is the main character of the New Gods by Kirby plus his a more interesting and complex character in my opinion
Alexander Murphy
I'm kind of hoping they don't forget the Forever People exist too. I guess a lot of people didn't care for it, but I enjoyed that series.
If they make a New Gods movie with Orion, Lightray, MM and Barda and redheaded Jimmy Olsen, I'll preorder my ticket for day one.
Owen Green
I hate his stupid floaty leg strap things
Looks dumb as hell
Ethan Walker
>Orion is just Wonder Woman's boyfriend that's weaker than earth's gods for some fucking reason.
Blame Azz for that.
WW - Orion could actually work, if it's wrote well.
Aaron Howard
>why does DC keep on pushing Mister Miracle and Big Barda
yeah I wish I knew that, too, it seems so random even though I like them.
Easton Foster
No, Nightwing is the cyclops of DC before retards at Marvel turned him into a depressed villain.
Josiah Gomez
I think it's because his story is about a son vs his father and that kind of story begs for a conclusion which can never come in corporate capeshit
Nathan Rogers
DC hates all the New Gods because they remind people that Darkseid isn't a Superman villain, but I think they hate Orion in particular because his space-Segway looks goofy as fuck.
>pushing Mister Miracle and Big Barda
Honestly I think it's just because Tom King wanted to write them, and DC wouldn't have pushed for them otherwise.
Charles Moore
Even before King’s shit, Johns didn’t even let Orion get involved in Darkseid War, or meeting Grail
Matthew Stewart
Out of modern New Gods stuff, i've only liked Morrison and King.
Morrison's Orion is great.
Jason Rogers
Wow, Orion has a lot of fans here. What a coincidence.
Oliver Davis
No one at DC besides maybe one or two people care about the new gods at all. I guarantee you could count the number of people there who actually read the original runs on one hand.
On top of that it's an old set of characters none of whom have ever had a long running book or much marketing put towards them leading to mm and darkseid (thanks to cartoons and generic big bad status)being the only ones with any kind of widespread popularity.
So in the end it's a bunch of great stories and characters that will never get anywhere near the attention and care they need to be good because no one at DC know's/cares about them or how they should be written.
Parker Green
It's low hanging fruit to hate Orion. He's everything masculine and Azz had Wonder Woman knock him down a peg because to them Orion was a male chauvinist pig representing the patriarchy. Under King, Orion was less lustful and made him instead be a war hungry fascist pig. Starlin hated him because Orion isn't a space hippie. It's in Orion's nature to always use violence to counterattack the oppression from threats. He is after all a Dog of War. Kirby has said we all need a little bit of Orin in our lives. This means we have to balance the more "negative" aspects of ourselves i.e. Apokolips with the more society friendly New Genesis characteristics within all of us.
Easton Wood
>we'll never get dog of war Orion again
It hurts
Cameron Nelson
DC doesn't hate the new gods, they're just afraid of being accused of plagiarism by the mouth breathers.
>here's a space opera about a son trying to stop his evil father
So now it's about trying to find a new angle to present.
Cooper Anderson
Because DC is now and has always been run by basedcucks. Seriously though, Morrison has done decent stuff with him throughout his career, but he the last good writer who actually gave a fuck about the Fourth World. John's Darkseid War wasn't horrible but it Orion wasn't in it and I'm sure I only liked it for Fabok's art.
If the New God's movie ever gets made you just know DC will hire some young douche to revamp the Fourth World universe and diversify it needlessly and it will be a piss poor affair all the way around.
Brandon Collins
That thing he rides has always looked very stupid to me.
Wyatt Ross
>Because since Super Friends and Adventure Comics ruined the New Gods reputation all the characters of the 4th world becomed just jokes.
Don't make excuses for Nu52 shit.
The New Gods had no problem being taken seriously for decades after it. It was only post Flashpoint bullshit that they were reduced to their current pathetic state
Asher King
>and therefore ages said character
You mean Highfather whose supposed to be old as fuck anyway or Darkseid who has another son and isn't even meant to be a relateable character anyway?
Owen Gray
Is Godhead Orion still dead?
Henry Hernandez
Why do CIAfags always do this?
Nolan Young
>It was only post Flashpoint bullshit that they were reduced to their current pathetic state
No, they were definitely pathetic when they all got killed offscreen as a lead-in to Final Crisis.
Levi Hill
>Because since Super Friends and Adventure Comics ruined the New Gods reputation all the characters of the 4th world becomed just jokes.
Superfriend arguably(though everybody is a joke in superfriends). The DCAU is much more influential depiction of the DCU for most people which is much better, though sadly, Orion does get his ass kicked in Twilight.
You're wrong about Return of the New Gods(only the last part wich was published in Adventure Comics)
>Darkseid is just generic alien lord that can't even kill Superman with a mere touch.
Kirb'y Darkseid was never that powerful.
>Highfather is just space wizard.
More Space Prophet.
>Orion is just Wonder Woman's boyfriend that's weaker than earth's gods for some fucking reason.
This is from the Azzarello WW run. From the New 52.
>Only Bryne and Morrison knows how make Kirby's Orion works
Have not gotten to Byrne in my Fourth World readings, but in his Superman Legends crossover Darkseid is a perfect representation of the Alien Warlord interpretation. Morrison's Final Crisis is a far cry from Kirby in power levels.
And Morrison's treatment of Orion? He kills Orion, the one who was prophesied to kill Darkseid, off screen and Darkseid's ultimately defeated by Batman and Superman. Every other writer, though bound to to give Darkseid joker immunity by DC editorial at least respected the idea that someday Orion would be the one to someday kill Darkseid.
In short, your spewing shit you know nothing about.
The adventure comics issues are only the conclusion of Return of the New Gods, but I'd say give it a shot. Orions new costume there sucked. Kirby seemed to consider it half canon for Hunger Dogs as Darkseid kidnapping Esak happened in "Return", but on the other hand Kirby ignored the death of Lonar from "Return".
Return has an interesting interpretation of Anti-Life which could have possibly influenced Starlin's from cosmic Odyssey.
Benjamin Cooper
The only thing holding the fourth world back is it's own legacy as Kirby's Magnum Opus.
Gabriel Thomas
Before the New 52 Mister Miracles worst run was Kings Original
Matthew Martinez
Probably because Orion would've actually cleaned up Grails shit.
Levi Stewart
Man, when’s the last time we got to see the Astro Force in full power?
Leo Myers
Orion's solo?
Cameron Collins
They were jokes to begin with. If anything DC pushes Orion and the New Gods too much.
Justin Ward
yes, exactly. you genuinely took that seriously? lol
Christopher Bailey
It is hard to tell if Quesadaposting is a joke
or if it is actually Quesada
Jose Nguyen
Well its not Death of the New Gods fault that Countdown didn't reference it that much at all.
Robert Kelly
>DC editorial at least respected the idea that someday Orion would be the one to someday kill Darkseid.
Well Darkseid used a corrupt Orion to kill 31st Century Darkseid during that Post-Zero Hour Legion Foundation arc.
Carter Gomez
Every good writer improves any Kirby
character. Kirby was mostly the concept man.
Kevin Powell
>Escape Artist Superhero!
>He doesn't do any actual escaping the literal Deus Ex Machina he has on him at all times just gets him out of things
Why did Kirby ruin Mr Miracle immediately after creating him Yas Forums?
Colton Sanchez
Is Simonson's New God stuff anything like how Morrison writes them?
Austin King
>kirby was mostly the concept man
Terrible take.
Connor Robinson
That was mostly his scripting more than writing I was talking about. He’s loved for his ham-fisted-descriptive-dialog, but it doesn’t give any life to what’s going on
Isaac Morales
Thanks for the Dan Didio answer.
Jaxson Gutierrez
He’s cool character.
Landon Williams
Huh
Andrew Johnson
I know Mister Miracle was Kirby’s tribute to Steranco (part of his style as a showman was being a performing stage magician). I think Kirby himself was a high-wire act tossing off so many characters for other artists and writers to make good on.
Matthew Miller
this is for
Ian Baker
It's a pity the ugly-faced Orion doesn't get played out more often.
Daniel Thomas
Mister Miracle was supposed to be for Ditko to take over. Wally Wood was going to be on Orion of the New Gods and Don Heck was to do the Forever People. Kirby himself was planned to do two tiles, first was going to be Big Barda and the Female Furies. The second was a Lonar solo title idea.
Angel Murphy
Real goofy looming if you ask me.
Anthony Phillips
>Mister Miracle was supposed to be for Ditko to take over
I could see it.
Ryder Sanders
I personally prefer Mister Miracle but yeah the way they sideline Orion like that is weird.
Eli Price
He's not Batman
Mason Nelson
Respect a classic
Evan Foster
>Dubs on Dubs on Dubs
Wonder what Ayn Rand philosophies Ditko was to implement in Mister Miracle.
Jose Perry
>op makes a baseless accusation just because he hasn't been used in dozen of comics every year
Nathan Fisher
Azzarello treated him like shit, King did as well, Johns didn’t even use him when Darkseid died. He won’t even be the star of New Gods, it’s gonna be Scott and Barda.
David Baker
I didn't know they were going to do a New Gods ongoing.
Angel Phillips
Movie
Parker Jones
Oh for fuck's sake
Luis Reyes
>still salty about azz's wonder woman run
Well now everything makes sense.
Luis Watson
Also Tom King is working on it
Charles Bailey
>Johns didn’t even use him when Darkseid died.
Honestly that's no lose there, much of the new gods there just did cameos at the very most.
>Azzarello treated him like shit
He had zero malicious intent and genuinely thought that was charming.
>King did as well
Well that's just a matter of subjectivity
