As evident by the Peridot episode, Steven still wants to hang out and be with his friends, but he feels that they don't need him anymore now because they don't all have problems looming over their head. The show shows repeatedly that this isn't true and is mainly about Steven coping with the fact he has nothing to overshadow his own issues and is now forced to face them.

Greg and the Gems don't "need" anything from Steven in the same way my parents don't "need" anything from me but they "want" him to be a part of their lives.

If Future was about Steven feeling bouts of wanderlust and feeling he's tied down to the gems then you could argue about moving on for a bit, but Steven wants to be with his friends and family (and his friends and family want to be with him) but he feels like he needs a reason to be a part of their lives and that he's useless otherwise when the show repeatedly beats him and the viewers over the head that that isn't the case.

They are. You love someone because you need them in your life, because they satisfy your need for love. Steven does that for no one. Some people complete others. Steven does that for no one. Some parents can’t imagine life without their kids. Steven doesn’t do that. No one needs him.

It’s been said multiple times he’s not needed. They’ve overcome all their issues and no longer have anything holding them back. They have rich full lives without Steven. They will have them when he’s gone and will have them when he dies

But why the hell do you have to move just because people don’t “need” you? Why can’t he just learn to be happy with himself and still live in his home? It’s not like beach city intrinsically is flawed and that’s why Steven is suffering. All his angst is internal, nobody except Bluebird is to blame for his suffering.
