Why is the Ratcatcher always included on those lists of "worst" Batman villains? I think he's pretty cool and his debut comic was pretty dark too.

I think a nice twist would be that the rats are actually calling the shots.

Design doesn't stand out and a fairly weak powerset. He's an urban horror villain, not a supervillain.

idk, personally i really like the design as someone who's seeing for the first time rn

Controling a horde of rats is overpowered if anything.

That's incredibly stupid.

He needs more stories like his debut. The problem with him, like with a ton of villains, is that people can't think of good follow up stories after their debut that he would headline, so they easily just dismiss him entirely. In Ratcatcher's case he basically became a Blackgate background character who more or less never did anything beyond be a lackey or an occasional cameo.

They should have tried to do something about Croc being the King of the sewers and Ratcatcher serving like a guide or whatever in the sewers.

Situationally overpowered, but also situationally worthless.

those are the best kind of powers, though

He hasn't appeared in much media outside comics.

Because there's already a cool rat-themed supervillain who was introduced in 1988

nice image quality, faggot.

He’s just Rat King from TMNT, and Pied Piper does what he does plus more

He's a side character in Mother Panic.

Finding good images of OG Mirage Rat King is surprisingly hard

Honestly that's probably the best way to take the character, especially as a villain. Just some creepy, unsettling guy who can get you a host of information, for a cost, and the people who cross him tend to wind up with their faces chewed off in their sleep.

You just know they’re going to introduce female Ratcatcher to canon in light of the new Suicide Squad movie

Just genderswap OG Ratcatcher and call it day.

Ratcatcher was a character in the unproduced Green Arrow screenplay where GA has to escape from a prison for supervillains. He's one of GA's escape team. He dies, but then he lives on inside the rats.

And this right here is the problem. He doesn't have EPIC powers for big FIGHTS, therefore he must suck because Batman is all about having fights and not about being a detective who goes up against interesting criminals.

Ratcatcher and Rat King being nowhere to be seen during the TMNT/Batman crossover goes to show how little of a fuck writers give about them.

He's not even an interesting criminal, that's the real issue.

He was in a shitty video game and a female version is coming to the Suicide Squad movie.

He would’ve been great in Beware the Batman. I don’t understand why they didn’t use him.

The cost animating a giant horde of rats, even if they reused a single rat model.

I feel like story timing this now. But I'm in my therapist's waiting room, if they call me in before I finish, I'll finish after if the thread is still up.

2012 TMNT had Rat King for around three episodes. Plus, you could also have him using giant mutated rats as well.

Lists like that are largely made by people who have never read the comics beyond famous TPBs.

The fact that the Turtles never beat him decisively, even in the 1987 cartoon, will always impress me.

Isn't that the same power of Mouse Man?

NICE

I like that 70/80s batman. Seems a lot more human/grounded than today.

And that's the last of 585. Ratcatchers first appearance. Thank you for your patience

Thanks for posting

>Batman tracks a series of murders
>Initially can’t figure out what happened beyond some claw marks
>Eventually connects it all to Rat Catcher, who’s been using the rats to sneak into homes and kill targets
Shit writes itself.

It's pretty uncommon to see nowadays, but try The Batman's Grave #1 if you like that feeling

I'll give it a try. TY.

>He's an urban horror villain
>not a supervillain.
Black Mask is basically a gangster. Victor Zsasz is just a serial killer. 'Urban horror villain' is right up Batman's street. I like more stories like that. Ever read Batman: The Cult with Deacon Blackfire?

There's a lot of villains they could've used instead of relying on some of the same old ones. Deathstroke could've been Hush or KGBeast. Tobias Whale could've been Great White Shark. Cypher could've been literally any hypnotist. Lunkhead should've been Amygdala. Ratcatcher could've replaced Killer Croc, as much as I like Beware's take on him, and they really could've used Nocturna instead of saving her for a season two that never happened.

I will thank them for introducing me to Magpie and Matatoa.

Meh. Be more interesting if he was using his rats to secretly spread a plague in Gotham because big pharma paid him to cause a pandemic so that they could reap profits by selling the cure at cutthroat prices, so that their quarterly earnings would go up.

I don't know why but these old Batman comics look really great.
I think it's the colours? Maybe.

Yeah, whoever said Ratcatcher is a dumb villain is the type of guy who feels obligated to put Penguin high on their list.

>I think it's the colours? Maybe.
Old printing makes it feel like they had to try more to make things stand out. Where as now they seem to be more lazy with things.
