Narratively it would be a complete disaster to the story if they don't end up together, literally the only point of Connie being around was being Steven love interest, her entire character will turn into pure filler if they don't end up together since realistically she shouldn't be a main character nor got any other impact in the story.

Never really liked the idea of fusion being a metaphor for sex. Because it just leads to messy territories like forced fusion is "rape" or "self harm". What about the cluster? Is that a metaphor for a sex orgy? Why can't it be a simple fun badass upgrade and not this sexuality stuff?

I think that people can interpret it any way they want. I also think RS stated that she wanted people to feel confused or uncomfortable with fusion to a degree too. In that sense, talking about sex and relationships can feel uncomfortable and kinda weird too. Even if you don't interpret fusion this way, I do feel that there can be a case made for or against it.
