>Here’s our full translation of the interview excerpt:
>Miyamoto: When we started our partnership with Universal, I heard that the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri, wanted to meet with me – he was also signed with Universal. So I met with him and talked. He brought things with him that I had mentioned in interviews in the past to say that our ways of thinking and doing things are one in the same.
>Q: He was very eager.
>Miyamoto: I didn’t know what kind of angle he was getting at, but I’ll never forget when he talked to me about why he had failed before. That’s when I thought, “I think I can trust this guy.” That was right around the time I was considering movies, so we decided to have him do the animation for us when he said, “What do you say? Let’s make something together.” It took a really long time for things to come together, but we finally found our way.
>Miyamoto trusted Illumination because the CEO brought up Hops

Big green gaijin dorrar make Miyamoto-san want make movie. Prease understand.

I hope that Miyamotos is directly involved and prevents them form putting sjw and anti male / feminist proganda scenes in the move that have become the norm for modern entertainment.

What is Miyamoto role at nintendo anyway? I always felt like he was basically like Stan Lee, an overrated editor with little to no credit on 90% of his sucessful titles.
Christopher Smith
He started out as the artist/designer for Nintendo's first forays into video games and solely or co-designed most of their first party stuff on the NES. Since the SNES he's mostly been management, overseeing mainline mario projects.
Tyler Ross
This is the case, and its weird since the Illumination guy is a creative guy who hates meddling from others.
Isaac Sanchez
That's pretty much right nowadays. They mainly just keep him on so he can give his input on various things. I don't think he even has a formal position anymore.
Nolan Stewart
He's legitimately the father of console gaming. He still oversees some projects but Pikmin is the last game that was his direct brain child. I hope he doesn't because he has a weirdly autistic opinion against anything existing in the Mario universe that isn't the main 4 + Toad and the koopalings. I would actually like to see some of the expanded kingdoms, thank you.
Luis Bennett
I guess the opportunity to work on a property like Mario, which is really difficult to get the green light for, was too much to pass up.
Isaiah Torres
I have less and less faith for this as time goes on, not only is it by illumination but a lot of the imput seems to be coming from miyamoto, which is good, but not entirely since hes notoriously finicky about characters and story in mario games, like slowly trying to edge out all other characters in favor of just a bunch of toads and generic mario enemies or being one of the reason why mario rpgs have less story to them.
Robert Morris
Jokes on you this philosophy saved his works from turning into Sonicverse.
Jeremiah Morgan
you're not wrong, but sometimes he takes it to far to the point where it objectively making some things worse.
Henry Hernandez
I'm afraid this sort of micromanaging will put a grind toward the writers and directors of this flickactually making this into a movie that would win over audiences.
I mean, unless it's just gonna be some little shorts, general audiences are gonna want Mario to have some sort voice & personality, maybe a little bit of sass, & i don't think Charles Martinet have had enough opportunities to really bring that out of the character..or make that appealing.
And you're right, if Shiggy don't emphasize anyone outside the main 4 and bowser, there's not gonna be enough of a cast for the characters to bounce off. They'll need to start making OCs, and that's not necessary for Mario.
Ethan Turner
well unless this movie breaks Sonic's record on opening day ALONE, this philosophy can take a hike.
FUCK ACCURACY, it's all about entertainment!
Hunter Stewart
>tfw the trailer for the Mario movie will have a fart joke
somebody post the copypasta, the one with the kesha song
Jonathan Gray
Sonic's problem was putting an ironic 2kewl cartoon mascot into increasingly more serious situations like if the original Loonatics was a decades-long, across the board change to the Looney Tunes franchise. Mario's fairy tale sincerity and "Fish out of water in Wonderland" thing on the other hand somehow makes him more narratively pliable despite being a posterboy for rigidly formulaic video game sequels.
Jason Flores
There's a lot of characters in Mario. I could flesh out the characters easily. You can team Mario up with Luigi. You got Peach, Wario, Waluigi, Daisy, Rosalina, Bowser, Bowser Jr. Hell, you can even add Donkey Kong and his crew. There's a lot they could do.
I never understood this excuse. Sonic fucking up his own mythos doesn't suddenly preclude every other IP to be fated to meet with the same mess. The Paper Mario games already prove this.
Isaiah Thomas
imagine being being THIS fucking paranoid over a children’s movie

>this summer... >everyone's favorite plumber... >is coming to the big screen >cuts to bowser voiced by Adam Sandler What a bummer! >Ke$ha starts playing WAKE UP IN THE MORNING FEELING LIKE IM P DIDDY >Mario wakes up giddy for the morning as Peach is carried away in the distance, his alarm is still going off and he can't hear her, scrolls through some messages, looks up as he's about to read "princess peach kidnapped" remember to take up luigi, who's alarm is the local radio >"in other news, princess peach has been-" >Mario, voiced by Aziz Ansari "It's a me! Your brother, Mario! We need to get an early start on our day if we're going to get anything done!" >Luigi, voiced by Owen Wilson, "just go on without me, man" >Mario: "but together we are the super Mario brothers! Without you I'm just... Regular Mario Brother." >two brothers will find themselves >Mario "what?! Peach is missing?" >Luigi "really?" >and maybe Peach >Mario "and bowser took her?" >Luigi "wow REALLY?" >but first they have to find Bowser >bowser: "I know what girls like!" >presents a bundle of fire flowers to Peach* "fire flower?" >Peach kicks him in the balls >"AAAAA My fire balls!" >who might need to be saved from peach >peach, voiced by who do you fucking think, it's Kristen Schaal "I keep inviting you to go kart riding, to play golf, to parties, and even to the Olympic Games AND THIS IS HOW YOU TREAT ME?!" >this summer is going to be >montage of slap stick >bowser twerking >Mario "aaawkward" >this summer is going to be... >montage that's pretty much the inevitable dance party ending >toad doing a head spin >"LIIIIIIIIT" >this summer is going to be! >*montage of every time they say "super" in the movie >SUPER >Super Mario Bros.
Ethan Carter
There was that one piece of concept art with Mario being kidnapped by a Piranha Plant with an eyepatch and everyone pursuing in karts that looked pretty promising.
Mario has always been really light on story, so they should be fine to do just whatever so long as they take care to avoid any dated humor.
>>peach, voiced by who do you fucking think, it's Kristen Schaal "I keep inviting you to go kart riding, to play golf, to parties, and even to the Olympic Games AND THIS IS HOW YOU TREAT ME?!"
>He's legitimately the father of console gaming Holy shit, he created the Magnavox Odyssey console from 1972?!
Nathan Kelly
Wasn't that a pitch to Disney from Nintendo?
Easton Gray
Mario games are already anti-male. The creator of the Mario universe is Rosalina a woman who very much has goddess status and Peach rejected Mario officially yet the simp still goes to save her in follow up games.
Jaxson Harris
Anyone else find themselves wanting the lego Mario movie?
True but his games are still fun so I don't give a shit. Mario Maker and Mario Odyssey were good and I don't have any retarded game breaking glitch when playing them.
That said Zelda is the king of the Big N games.
Jacob Johnson
He's been the strict old guard for twenty years, but he got there by being an innovator and working in the trenches. I would never call him overrated like Stan Lee. And to his credit he's actually backed out of it and let Koizumi do his thing more and more since the Wii days.
Henry Hill
Sonic's expanded cats is an underused feature, not a problem.
Asher Jenkins
It's not paranoia if they're really out to get you (and they are).

You dumb bastard it's way too obvious that Mario will still save Peach anyway. In Luigi's Mansion 3? Mario as soon as he's freed guides Luigi to help him save Peach. In the next Mario game he will go back to saving that ungrateful cunt.
Michael Hill
As much as I hate Illumination and the movies they produced, I'm pretty excited about a Mario movie coming out. Unlike any other studios (Disney, Dreamworks, Pixar, etc) Mario movie from Illumination being decent because they creatively brain-dead that they are incline to make a movie on brand and marketable that they'll do anything that Nintendo tells them to do. With Shigeru Miyamoto being quality control it kinda reassures me that the movie won't be too reliant on MUH POP CULTURE REFERENCE and actual focus a decent story based on Mario.
This could be wishful thinking considering I just want something on the level of Luigi's Haunted Mansion in movie form someday
Luigi Mansion 3's animation and overall presentation was excellent and would make me understand how something like that could be animated or look as a full movie, but dialogue and plot is what I can't really imagine.
