3. Namor vs Aquaman. Eaten alive while having a seizure is hard to top for pain.
4. Natsu vs Ace. Melting is a pretty bad way to go.
5. Carol vs 18. Multiple broken bones followed by one of the most humiliating deaths.

Honorable mention--Thanos vs Darkseid. In terms of pure suffering, Thanos wins. But he's also a bad guy so people don't feel as sorry for him as other characters.

Team vs Team is fine, you just have to be smart about who you pick. Obviously something like Justice League vs Avengers would be stupid for several reasons, but you could easily have something like the TMNT vs one of their many knock off groups.

Closest thing we have to a real team vs team fight, but ultimately Daxter and Klank feel like accessories to their respective partners. Also 2v2 isn't exactly in the spirit of what I'm thinking.
