It’s a decent watch if you like magical girl stuff, comfy if repetitive. Unfortunately Netflix removed it last month so you’d have to look online or on YouTube for eps (at least for N America). If you watch the first 6 eps you pretty much get a feel of what you’ll be getting into and if you want to keep going

Leaving aside the waifufaggotry, it was probably the most promising western magical girl show for some time. It’s a real shame it was cancelled. I guess it just didn’t pick up the fans it needed to, even while it was airing it didn’t generate a lot of buzz. If you like magical girl shows you should definitely give it a watch OP.

The creators explained that the way they came up with the name was the word "lollipop" and then substituting the word pop for rock (as in music, get it). They weren't thinking about lolis supposedly, and none of the girls are prepubescent.

I can genuinely believe the fact that it's based on lollipop, easily.
However it's impossible to be french and working on a show about teen singers and not be aware of the most famous french song about lollipops, called "les sucettes" (lollipops), which was written as a gigantic double entendre about the joy of young girls sucking dicks and then given to sing to an unsuspecting teen singer (the same songwriter would later write a song about incest and sing it with his daughter). It's a super loaded term. Lolita also was the french word for jailbait before even the japanese coopted it. Add to that that there are some huge weebs in the production team, some of them not stranger to the act of actually drawing lolis. It's impossible anyone on the creative side of production were unaware of what they were doing, and probably had great fun getting it past the money people.

The designs are great. The show itself is terrible, derivative, and comes across as a cliche-ridden fanfic with a few names tweaked to be original. The animation is poorly done, with that signature Marathon pseudo-anime look that moves rigidly and never feels quite right because they don't draw smears and deformations the way the Japanese do.

Being a Marathon production handuffed the team pretty hard. Team wanted a LOT more lore present but the execs said no, so it was sparse as all hell

The problem is that I am. There's nothing unique about this show to recommend it over the mountains of other magical girl shows out there, which have far superior execution.
