>"It was before we started production, but it was not well handled," said Routh. "So that has been something my wife and I are both still working through. It’s been a huge transition time for us, these last 8, 9, 10 months. Going in, I wondered how was I going to find the joy in it, knowing this thing was looming. But I worked to just be with the crew that had become my family and the cast that had become my family, and experience that, and just be there in the interactions with the people."
>"What I try to do at work is go to work and try to enjoy my time on set," added Routh. "You don’t know what the end product is going to be. You’re also talking about loss, so we’re going back to that — loss of my family for the last five years, and the character that I played for six years. I filmed my last episodes in the Arrowverse and as Ray Palmer. And that was a very traumatic event for me. It was not something I was expecting, it was shocking."
>Routh also elaborated on Ray's departure's lack of comics accuracy. "In the comic book world, Ray Palmer disappears" he explained, "But he leaves his belt behind, which is in the comics how he has the power to shrink, and this young man, Ryan Choi, takes over and becomes the new Atom. That's not what happens with Ray... He doesn't get lost into the multiverse. We're not following the comic book structure."
>When asked if he would be willing to appear further down the line as many other former cast members have over the years, Routh simply stated "That's the kind of bridge that I will decide to cross when I get there."
I've cut everything except Black Lightning, what happened and how did it suck so much that it pissed off Routh after all the other nonsense they've done
Nicholas Johnson
My guess is that they needed to cut the budget and Routh probably has one of the higher paychecks on the show. No reason to keep his wife around after that so she can go, too.
Which I imagine would piss him off. You're not getting fired because of your work or because of story reasons, they just decided they don't want you anymore.

I was kind of hoping they'd at least reference Sword of the Atom and leave Ray and Nora in a village of lilliputians, but the implication is that they don't even get that much dignity.
Also it doesn't sound like they're going to even try to justify introducing Ryan Choi in Crisis. Fuck these producers with a rake.
Luis Ward
I'm sure that they still have plans for Ryan, but one of of the main reasons why they're getting rid of Routh is due to how expensive the Atom suit and powers is, so they won't keep it around just with a cheaper actor.
Lincoln Perry
If they don't want to put fucking effort into adapting comics, then don't adapt comics. We're all tired of "COSPLAY SOAP OPERA" because their creativity and budget limitations.
Jason Smith
I like how Routh knows what's up with Ray in the comics.
Jacob Morgan
I feel for the guy. Him and his wife are fan favorites. Its definitely nothing he did. Like other anons said its probably all down to a paycheck. Honestly, how many more seasons does this show have? I figure they'll get it over the 100 episode hump and it'll be gone not long after that.
Curious what they'll do with Supergirl now that Melissa is pregnant.
Nathaniel Foster
Just like Superman, he really seems to resonate with these characters. Dude was born to play a hero. I could see him having a couple longboxes.
Angel Gonzalez
Hopefully cancel it. Flash, Legends and Supergirl should just stop.
