Good evening owls,
we left off with the Emerald Eye getting dommed by Vril
Good evening owls,
we left off with the Emerald Eye getting dommed by Vril
so what do we have to talk about in general
Hello, Storyteller.
People talk shit about the continuity regarding Donna Troy, or Hawkman, but Pulsar Stargrave easily rivals the both of them. Who the fuck is this guy, and where did he come from?
Robofucker here, I finally caught up to the storytime!
>we left off with the Emerald Eye getting dommed by Vril
That was just uncomfortably sexual.
As for stuff to talk about, I'm on medical leave from work so I have more time to look at bots I can't afford. Yay?
That's a smol bb
so we have long joked that this storytime has an incredible knack for coming across totally /d/ scenarios everywhere in our comics
it was less sexual than SPOTLIGHT: MEGATRON, tho
>Robofucker
>That was just uncomfortably sexual.
Uh
plz stop dying, Robofucker.
I GOT THE ART
it looks Good
I finished Blindsight since the last thread. It's definitely the spookier and better written book of the two but there's a hell of a lot of crossover in the basic story set-up. Appreciate that's because author wants to write from a "real" human observer or feels that's the only way to do justice to the ideas he's working through but I could see it getting repetitive if Rifters is like that too.
Would make a great film actually, sort of current industrial sci-fi. Hope someone tries it sometime.
speaking of, I didn't read Strange Adventures
Rifters is much rougher and less polished but a breezier read, also has some "holy shit" John Barnes-level of more normatively fucked up people in it
I swear I have a pb copy of Starfish around here somewhere, or maybe I used to
Hey, speaking of Adam Strange, who's ready for Tom King to make him edgy and depressed?
I'm more waiting for it to turn out that Adam really is full of shit and a rat bastard, than anything else
reminder that Parker fixed Alanna after Lemire did ????? with her
I'll probably get around to them eventually. Even though the book was IMO overall better Jukka was sadly not as sexy/scary as Valerie so I'm down for more psychopaths.
I agree with you reading Blindsight first, even though I didn't, it scores the central alien horror point a lot better. Echopraxia is really only a companion piece when it comes to that.
"BTW our boss is a bastard, watch out for him"
I'm honestly gonna hate Tom King Adam Strange so much because fuck if you can't do fun things with high concept military sci-fi but fuck if TK isn't just going to give us Iraq War PTSD again.
I'll give it some credit that's it not as complete shit as Mister Miracle.
Because, really, Mister Miracle had one of the worst first issues I've ever read.
But it's still so full of his hacky pitfalls.
these bitches are tough and I love them
What's the over/under on Adam hitting Alanna in a moment of anger?
Like, seriously, King should probably just start seeing a therapist.
I get what Lemire was going for, making Alanna a more active character, but yeah, having the two switch places at random was just weird.
Someone brought this up in the storytime thread, and the more I think about it - the more it makes sense.
Instead of that...what if Alanna is the murderer?
NGL, I was also not crazy about the "I'm his student! And we're in love!" dynamic because I've known/of too many prof fuckers even though I've also known cases it was ultimately fine
Anyone else read Strata as black and feel a lil weird about it?
Same with Terry Long, but at least everyone agrees that shit was messed up
I have literally never seen anyone who liked Terry/Donna
>Daddy Long Legs, Yeah!
Terry Long sits in the pantheon of author inserts.
Shocked that Marv didn't play him in his COIE cameo.
I have, but they always seem to lack the meta context of Terry being Wolfman's self-insert.
That sounds hacky enough.
Teacher/student romances seem to work out okay as long as both parties are actively working to avoid the problematic elements of the idea.
LOL
(the Eye is never good for anyone's sanity)
>Teacher/student romances seem to work out okay
(that's why Stealth is Stealth, btw)
I read Strata in the exact same voice as I do Ben Grimm.
what's up !!! i can post along tonight!! i'm still very behind reading along though!
chris claremont's lady fighter pilot book also has aliens! and i got to the part in the old thread where someone linked a short story about the Thing and i'm worried about falling down that author hole
I wanna talk about how X-Men is trying to make Beast their Waller/Prowl but it doesn't work because Beast is nice. X-Force 6 had a very funny framing about Beast being like the CIA and he's all confident and then like them he's fucking up!!
Considering all the weird shit we learn about Stealth later, I'm kinda surprised they never really got all that creative with her powers.
Thats....that's not how crystals work. At all.
it's fun to read this and not remember much because during the first issue I was like "Man It'd be cool if Pulsar Stargrave got worked in somewhere" and then BLAMMO second encore!
he was a Legion of Supervillains baddie who claimed he was original Brainiac/Brainy's dad. He has great style
Man I haven't read this in years and I forgot how often Garryn was a dick to Vril. Their relationship was weird.
3x3 is always good in this run
Sorry for the delay; it's date night.
Yeah but in this comic it's (mostly) organics. Gross.
I'll try.
Hi thread!
I am annoyed at COVID-19 for cancelling the toy/comics show I was going to hit up today.
Lobo in a puffy shirt plz
Where does this fit in the Lobo timeline? Had he been huge yet?
they fucking canceled SXSW
COVID-19 a shit. Not lethal enough for a proper postapoc, too lethal for society to tick along as usual.
Dude, just give up already.
Yeah, and then it turns out he wasn't Brainy's dad, but his cousin or something pretending to be his dad. Then he was a robot who thought he was Brainy's dad, but it wasn't really clear if that was true either. Then L.E.G.I.O.N comes along and introduces the Computer Tyrants of Colu who end up in a body that looks exactly like Stargrave, implying that's the real deal. But then Zero Hour happens and reboots Legion continuity altogether, and I don't think Reboot even has a Stargrave. Then R.E.B.E.L.S happens and Lyrl creates an angry sun supercomputer that names itself Pulsar Stargrave, and seriously who the fuck is this guy and where did he come from?
Before Crisis happened, Giffen had Pulsar get his shit kicked in by the Subs in humiliating fashion and while they were beating him up (complete with biting off his nose), he confessed that he's some sort of cosmic horror entity that has existed since the dawn of time and that he creates different backstories for himself to mess with the heroes he fights under the Lovecraft logic that people would go insane if they knew he was really some sort of Yug Sototh/Cthulhu/King In Yellow style abomination.
Which sucks because a lot of businesses down there depend on the money they make that weekend, man. Might go down there and do some shopping/eating/drinkin just to help out a tiny bit.
The only redeeming thing about Terry is that he was 100% normie and the writers used him and his family drama (he was a divorced man with kids by his first wife, though his ex-wife was on good terms with him by the point we met them) to flesh out Donna by doing the step parent thing and showing her coping with married life. Especially since one of the storylines they had was Terry turning out to be graduate school failure who ultimately is blackballed by the university because he finally admitted to being unable to complete his thesis and get his masters degree.
By this point in the series, Garryn was standing up to Vril as Vril really doesn't like him and openly treats him like shit. So it was well overdo....
i'm supposed to go to vegas from the 17-23 and am increasingly nervously laughing about it
yeah, when I picked up the art today their shop was super bummed about it, because they do so much work with/for Mondo and the like
Why?
LEGION was around the time that Lobo started getting popular, though he doesn't become a huge star until 1990-1991 when the first Lobo mini comes out.
Closest The 94 reboot had to Pulsar Stargrave was Brainiac 5's mom, thought it's heavily implied that she was pure, genocidal evil due to a deal Vril makes at the end of REBELS with Neron during Underworld Unleashed, with Vril trading the soul of a relative several hundred years down the road instead of his own.
Also, IIRC, Giffen made another Pulsar in the Larzfleeze series but this verion was a random Colu resident who Larzfleeze forces to serve as his assistant/slave and him being super pathetic and everyone shitting on him.
Consider the following: Terry Long is reintroduced into the setting as a love interest for Donna. The catch is no longer resembling Wolfman in anyway whatsoever.
