What did you think of the Oscar-winning short film Hair Love?
What did you think of the Oscar-winning short film Hair Love?
It was weird how the dad never showed up in it.
It’s cute.
Who’s the guy in the pic?
It was adorable. I don't see any reason to hate it, and I genuinly don't care about the Oscars. The Oscars are unique in that their judges aren't reporters or voted on they're judged by established industry insiders, so it's more a guide for people wanting to break into the entertainment industry rather than actually trying to suggest the best things for the populations, those two things do combine more often than we give them credit for though.
He thinks he's the dad.
Why are black people so obsessed with hair?
I remember when I was a kid and someone tried to publish a book called Nappy Hair, and got in trouble for being racially insensitive.. and it's like oh thanks, that REALLY helps black people feel better about their hair.. call something racist for just depicting reality
and really my whole life i've gotten shit for having jew curls. they just want to erase hair texture
Cause African hair is an anomaly and I love everything about it. Dreads, afros, cornrows, poofs.
Safe reward bait tear jerking.
The animated categories for the Oscars are among the least respected because lol gisnep buyouts. It's worth noticing when a non-Disney film wins. IIRC this is Sony, right?
>Cause African hair is an anomaly
You got that right. Its oily, hard to manage and smells bad.
Cause the white people made it a sticking point for them historically
Haven't seen it. It looks really cute though.
Black hair is versatile and really hard to take care of so it’s a point of pride to keep it in good condition
This deserved to win. Hair Love didn't.
>smells bad
All hair smells bad, it's just a matter of taking care of it, for all three things, desu.
>t. Brother with extreme curls
>tt. extremely wavy hair from blapeepo
This was my favorite for sure, but Hair Love was not the worst of the nominees.
I didn't know the Proud Family creator directed this, neat.
>people think dreads and they think pot smoking hippies
>People think afros and they think 'unkempt' because it's big and frizzy
it's ignorance and stigma. And yes you can wash dreads, coconut oil/baby shampoo/bi-weekly cleaning is fine.
The only thing I'd advise with dreads/rows is with the glue. If you don't wash it properly or too much, you can get some really nasty mould inside.
I never use or needed 'glue' after my first initial twisting, I suppose it's case by case. But if you have coarse enough hair or if you have a stylist to crochet your tips it usually self manages.
pandering to the kangz to seem woke
It's SJW garbage, probably (I never watched it).
This sounds like a silly question, but where is the best place to get hair braided into dreads? I've heard at African American and Jamaican salons that take extremely good care with twisting properly.
Remember when this beat Richard Williams and Don Hertzfeld?
When is it pandering and when is it just using a character of a different race?
Jamaican places range from actual salons to some one's house, 'Africa' braiding or a conventional salon (which I went to) is fine. White women can braid/twist too.
Will have to check up with my local stylist then. Thank you, user.
It's this white people went as far as to bring over thousands of white Europeans to whiten Latin America and part of that was a campaign to vilify black traits and anglicise white traits. This black hair pride is a fight against that history.
>When is it pandering and when is it just using a character of a different race?
if the main character isn't white you can assume it's pandering
Should’ve ended before the third character appeared, otherwise it was cute.
It was all right. Animation was okay, designs cute, humor nothing annoying, on the sappy side with the ending. Clearly for little black girls and there's nothing wrong with that but since I'm not in that demographic the short didn't offer much.
Static Shock, Fillmore, The Boondocks, The Proud Family, Class of 3000, Vibes and Men in Black were great. I don't think every piece of media featuring a non-white MC is a crusade against the majority of the west user. What I can assume is that black people live in your head rent free when you can just change the channel. Or in the case of most users, close the window and watch what you want.
One of the few "Oscar winning short films" that I've enjoyed.
Also Aqua Teens, kinda.
I haven't watched it, but I see black people so therefore it deserves to win. Three cheers for black people! Im not racist everybody!
Black people's hair, like black people, is best when absent entirely.
Lol this nigga don't shower
fuck niggers
Black people dont need glue in their dreadlocks, thats for thin/straight hair. The natural frizzy/curly texture makes the dread s stay in place
It's a status symbol. The more stylish your hair is = the more money you have.
This was way better plus had a deeper meta meaning to it.
>girls is cute
>dad is there and handsome
>mom survives cancer
Did this win in the sci-fi or fantasy category? I can't tell.
You think there is a population that didn't do the same shit? Fuck, white people still do it now. I'm white, everyone I know is trying to resemble the German youth cut.
Only reason people think black hair smell is because they put a bunch of grease and other toxic shit in it its actually cleaner than white/asian hair naturally and doesn't need to be washed constantly to not smell.
>Only reason people think black hair smell is because they put a bunch of grease and other toxic shit in it
>and doesn't need to be washed constantly to not smell.
hmm
Pretty cute, though I thought the cancer bit at the end was needlessly sad without adding anything, IMO it would’ve been better if the mom was just dead/absent.
Then what was the point of getting her hair done in the first place?
Having to read your dumb jigaboo sentences is almost as bad as having to listen to you mangle the English language with your banana-sucking lips in person. Learn punctuation you fucking no-Neanderthal-DNA-havin', 30% monkey cavehuman. Black hair is so disgusting. It's so goddamn revolting there's no surprise it can only be found on black people. And it stinks. It stinks like all black people stink. Because, being still part of the animal kingdom, you have more sweat glands than real humans. Look it up. Or get your parole officer to look it up for you.
>reddit spacing
Could’ve been for any special event, even fucking photo day at school or some shit. The main point was the dad bonding with the daughter and the daughter learning to love her hair for its uniqueness.
(OP)
It was cute, but nothing special, and you know it!
1. Boring characters. Generic stylized character design . Both look generic at best.
2. Entire boring plotline about making fun of a bad hair
3. Rehashed backstories that rip off jokes from other black media
4. Jokes are flat, over the top or they are trying to be meta
5. Music is beyond forgetable, and not catchy at all.
6. That fucking ending, trying to make up for a mediocre story with a generic Pixar The MOTHER IS DYING Ending
Seriously fuck this short. A typical production made by black suits and created out of every black media archetype. Seriously making a main character a woman or black will automatically have critics rate this as 95% on rotten tomatoes. Fucking brainless SJW's.
Probably the worst nominee but not surprised ir won due to the subject matter'. Memorable should have won
Absent...like you should be from this thread and planet.
It's weird how most black women irl wear wigs
I thought it was a dragon prince fanart from the picture. That guy totally looks as the mercenary
As a negress, it gave me some borderline traumatic flashbacks to my dad trying to do my hair whenever my mom was away. First time I've seen a riff on that since the Bernie Mac show.
It’s cute. Wasn’t the best of the nominees but the best never win
It is the dad. what the fuck are you smoking?
They're implying that he's a cuck and that black fathers are never there. It's a double whammy.
It was cute. My ma had cancer too. It was hard on all of us
