It was mostly good. You fuckers just hate change.
New 52
It had a lot of good runs but when your first push literally has 52 different ongoings that's bound to be the case, and even then a lot of them didn't need the New 52 to have been written. As a whole the creative direction the run took was not very good. Johns' JL run in particular is basically the posterchild of mediocre storytelling peppered by plot threads that Johns builds up and promptly drops.
>ruined the comics
>ruined the animations
>also helped ruin the movies
This. Some of the best runs and ideas came from the new 52
You do know that comic was making fun of pre-New 52 DC, right? Specifically the IC-onwards obsession with murdering Titans.
>It was mostly good.
oh no no no no no
>Cyborg in the JL as a founding member
OH NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
Geoff Johns blew his load too early with having darkseid be the big bad only 6 issues into the run
Wrong image, and the same people responsible for those books were also the main culprits of the relaunch.
>It was mostly good.
Quality was all over the place. Most of the good series didn't need the reboot. And even then you've got highly divisive examples like Wonder Woman.
>You fuckers just hate change.
We like continuity and history and resistant to it being casually discarded. And we hate seeing characters we liked either erased from existence or rebooted into unrecognizable forms.
And yeah, most of us weren't in the mood for a near total reboot, which does mean DC was going directly against what it's audience wanted. We're not obligated to give DC our unconditional support, and if DC can't find viable replacement audience for the one they've lost, then they've got a bit of a problem.
I started reading DC with the new 52, so I’ll always have a soft spot for it
New52 was DC’s version of Marvel’s Heroes Reborn but bigger, dumber and even more damaging. Even the same people are involved in both fiasco, Jim Lee, Liefield, Bob Harras,...
To be fair DC was already going downhill before new52 happened, the writing was on the wall already in 2003 with that awful Didio mandated Young Justice/Titans crossover by Winick, it just got worse with Indentity Crisis, Hush, Infinity Crisis, Final Crisis,... the destruction of legacy characters. Didio and his supporters can go to hell.
Fuck off faggot the only people that think this are newfags like: They didn't even use the reboot to tell new stories they literally just retold shit with more diverse casts
Cyborg as a founder of the JL is just wrong, if they wanted a black people it could be Black Lightning and Vixen.
also turning Wally into a black kid, my god, what’s Didio was thinking?!?!
Synergy. The New 52 had two purposes: enforce a strong synergy between all media so they all shared a single continuity like the Star Wars stuffs, and try as hard possible to be like the comics Marvel Universe full of hip, violent, and sexually-charged characters that deal with the "real shit".
>Didio was thinking?!?!
Sounds like it's time for a flashback, flashback, flashback...
>Didio: Ehm FUCK GINGERS
Also they made him into the most stereotypical black imaginable
>and try as hard possible to be like the comics Marvel Universe full of hip, violent, and sexually-charged characters that deal with the "real shit".
DC is at its weakest when they try to ape Marvel like the OMAC robots hunting meta-humans during Infinity Crisis, was a obvious nod to X-Men, also other shit like Maxwell Lord being a secret bad guy who wanted to defame meta-humans while pretending to support them was obviously stolen from early X-Factor arcs about Cameron Hodge.
I wonder why he couldn't even get severance despite being with the company for so many years
AT&T weren’t playing around.
>Doom Patrol lives
>And kills the Metal Men
I should not have laughed
I also started reading DC with the New 52, and I thought it was alright for a while until I discovered what came before it, then I just started to hate everything from the New 52 that wasn't something completely new but rather some kind of replacement or reimagining of old concepts and characters.
If you see it as DC's Ultimate universe, then it not as bad as most people here think.
DC's biggest mistake was to nuke the post-crisis continuity.
>DC's biggest mistake was to nuke the post-crisis continuity.
You could see that Didio wanted to nuke the post-COIE continuity before 2011, the 2006 events Infinity Crisis, 52 and One Year Later was almost a soft reboot but Didio was probably stopped Johns in going further.
>DC's Ultimate univers
More like Heroes Reborn than Ultimate universe.
Even on the most base, primal level the new 52 is ass because of the costumes.
And it only got worse from there.
In meta and feels, how was continuity pre-New 52? Like since New52 it's been a muddle, but I'm curious if pre-New52 it was relatively coherent and made sense in comics terms.
It was alright. We got some good stuff out of it and that's all that matters.
Before 2006, yes, after, not so much.
here is the reply you were craving for, lying whore.
It's only really Heroes Reborn in that it was a reboot. I'd say it's closer to Ultimate in concept outside of that though, with the heroes younger and starting off in the modern day.
We're not fuckers, we're just angry boomers.
>You fuckers just hate change.
Not a real argument
We got some nice things out of it (Demon Knights, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Azz Wonder Woman, Lemire Green Arrow, Aquaman sans Cullen Bunn, Forever Evil, Shazam, Sinestro, Dial H) There was a crazy time where Aquaman had TWO books! Two ongoing books at the same time! On purpose!
But a lot of it sucked or wasn't as good as what they replaced. Lobdell's Teen Titans was garbage, Justice League was an uneven mess with more bad than good. Earth 2 went to complete garbage after the first arc. Heckblazer, new 52 Constantine was an abomination. Superman X Wonder Woman couple.the weekly series ranged from meh to shit.
Also it was a hot fucking mess with continuity. Everybody got their shit rebooted except Batman and Green Lantern who kept their stories going but their entire history was shoved into a 5 year span. They couldn't decide if Tim Drake was or was not a Robin. Bart was a christian terrorist from the year 3000.
They felt they had to have 52 ongoing books because 52! New 52! so they just threw shit out there like Haunted Tank, My Greatest Adventure, Hawkman by fucking Liefeld. Did anybody like Captain Atom by JT Krul?
WB execs want to streamline shit for movies, they should just rip off the Ultimate Universe and made its own's imprint instead of fucking up the whole main line with a halfassed reboot.
also
FUCK ADAM GLASS' SUICIDE SQUAD. How the fuck did he get the Teen Titans book?
Ultimate was a new universe that did its own shit, not a reboot of 616.
>Azz Wonder Woman,
Would have been better off as it's own standalone separate continuity. Like if it had been published as All-Star Wonder Woman or something.
As what was suppose to be the main continuity it was heavily flawed and not an acceptable replacement for the post crisis continuity with how fundamentally different it was, I doubt it ever could had been retooled into something that would have been tooled or fixed into something acceptable.
>It was mostly good
Yep.
Whether or not it could've worked is a moot point since they handed it off to Meredith Finch who proceeded to write the single worst modern WW run up to that point.
>Futures End
>Convergence
>Teen Titans
>crossover events every other issue
>all 5 fucking dollars an issue
Look kids, a contrarian.
Batman had four Robins in a time spam of five years, Nu52 didn’t make any godammned sense, even the TPB are rewritten because it was so badly planned.
New52 ruined DC and it’s IPs for be used in other medias. The best thing that could happen is rebooting the conintuity to before Infinity Crisis in 2006.
I don’t understand how Batman had 6 trillion of Robins but Cass and Steph got embargoed by Didio and probably Tomasi?
It stopped me from reading dc again. So i am glad it happened
>WB execs want to streamline shit for movies, they should just rip off the Ultimate Universe and made its own's imprint instead of fucking up the whole main line with a halfassed reboot.
this. it's not difficult. Why tank your ongoing sales for no reason. Just make a normie line like Ultimate and shill the movie shit there. If it doesn't sell that tells you the market doesn't want it. So never return to the idea after cancellation.
Instead they ruin the mainline adamantly acting as if their modernizations will catch on if they just keep rebooting despite normies not buying comics
>In meta and feels,
before 52/Final Crisis it was comfy outside of edgy events but edgy events define the 2000s. 1996-2006 is really the modern golden age for DC.
You underestimate how many people are autistic about new timelines.
>Quality was all over the place.
When has that not been the case?
Yeah there was some good stuff, I like how they brought in outside talent to fill their quota.
>Morrison's run on Action Comics
>Soule's run on Red Lanterns
>Lemire's run on Animal Man
>Dial H by China Miéville
>Geoff Johns' ending to Green Lantern
Honestly N52 was pretty passable especially considering the big 2 shit we get now.
nothing he said even mentions timelines.
And nobody cares about "new" timelines. They care about old ones being replaced when DC has 52 (and now infinite) alternative universes. Rather than being faggots and rebooting a universe they should have just made it a different universe.
>5 comics of (over) 52 is a good ratio
>Super Sons
>Pre-Bendis Superman
>Morrison GL
>Orlando Martian Manhunter
>Future Quest
>Flintstones
>Tomasi's Detective
>Pre-KSD Aquaman
Seems like you probably just read trades like the rest of the N52fags.
I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you but.
Was it worth the very first Justice League arc being a dumb brawl with a barely intelligible Darkseid, and the story seeded in it leading up to HER?
>Futures End
Still fucking triggers me
Why is it wrong? Muh Titans? Cyborg is better of being in the League than hanging to the memories of Wolfman that are already nearly forty years old.
His Titans is honestly one of the best runs in over a decade.
Fuck you Didio shit
dcyou was good and late new52, early new52 was an error.
I still support the dual wally theory, Wally is the older cousin while wallace is the younger one looking up to his older cousin.
>Cyborg is better of being in the League
Except time tells a different story, of Cyborg clearly never fitting in with the rest of the Justice league. Cyborg is a young man character, not a stalwart old guard.
Should have just done an Ultimate line like marvel did if they wanted new readers.
Most of it wasn't change, since most of the writers had no clue what they should consider for canon.
It's why you got a Static Shock comic talking about the clone sister living with them, or Martian Manhunter having left the Justice League, or writers thinking people would want a Hawk&Dove comic.
There was plenty good, but much of it fell to the side and ignored eventually, or just retconned when a different team came on.
you can't even speak english faggot. it's better because if any of the teens belong on the JL the entire team deserves the spot before Cyborg.
only literal faggots say this.
the type of literal faggots who say this: in all honesty.
I fully agree.
It really was a mess most of the New 52 canon has been forgotten and gone back to Post Crisis over time which is Didios fault for not planning the reboot properly.
