Hello Yas Forums. I bought Dark Souls Remastered a while back and this quarantine bullshit has given me the excuse to play it. I've never played this game and I'm going in blind. I did
>master key starting gift
Only used the key thus far on 2 doors. So much for master key
>Started as warrior
I'll post more specs to show what I'm working with. However what I've done thus far
>Kill the gargoyle statues boss
>Kill the lava spitting spider lady
>Both bells rung so I went back to that big gate with the snake enemies and swinging axes (fuck this place)
>cleared that, summoned a guy called "Black Steel (Iron?) Tarcus
>Killed giant boss with big ass axe
>got teleported to "Ano Londo" by some demon thing
I can't help but feel I'm under leveled or under geared. The giants with huge shields and poleaxes take like 6x two handed heavy swings to kill. Is +5 as high a you can upgrade a weapon? I bumbled around and found the giant blacksmith and even he couldn't do anything for me. Pic related is my character

You're slightly under leveled but not unreasonably so. You can upgrade weapons past the basic +5 but I wont tell you how since you are going in blind.
I'm using the Claymore +5. I was playing around the environment in the snake dungeon place and made a jump to a tower just to see if I could. There was a guy in there selling armor and what not and I bought a Greatsword off him. It was way heavier and swung super slow so I went back to claymore. All my armor and shield is not upgraded at all. Should I be in this area at this point? Getting to where I'm at now was tricky as fuck. These knight looking motherfuckers with gigantic bows and arrows the size of baseball bats were on top of the ramparts shooting at me while I trying to dodge their arrows AND stay on the narrow fucking ledge. I managed to keep kicking the one on the right until he fell off. I feel like I'm cheating because I keep just back stab fishing the knight guys.
Pic is my gear.
> +5
KEK. You can upgrade to +15, but you need to find special embers to do it. The big ember is in Depths and the really big ember is in New Londo Ruins. You take it to a blacksmith to use it. Andre I think.
Also, you can beat the game at level 1, and it's not even as hard as you'd think. There's no such thing as underleveled if you git gud.
fair enough. At least there's a way to go past +5. I thought maybe the game was telling me to use a different weapon which I was kind of bummed about because I really like and got used to the moveset of this weapon. Good to know I can keep upgrading it.
Claymore is based. That's the weapon I used for my first run of the game. But you need to upgrade it. +5 ain't gonna cut it much longer.
stats are good, just need to either keep pushing a bit further to find a blacksmith capable of uprading to +10 weapons, or go back and get the ember that other guy mentioned to get andre to be able to do it. weapon upgrades are a huge deal
>depths
>new londo ruins
Good thing I have no idea where those areas are or what to look for, so the spoilers don't ruin anything for me. The last thing I managed to do in this area was open the gigantic door at the top of that really long staircase and there's a fog gate at the far end of the room. I managed to summon this guy here in pic related for help. I died twice in this Smough and Dragon armor man duo fight. I kept getting hit by the charging attack of the huge hammer. Originally I thought I had to damage both bosses down similarly and kill them simultaneously. However I killed the dragon man first and the FAT FUCK GOT ALL HIS HEALTH BACK. What I learned from this is
>Run when the fat man jumps
>Fight him without locking on.
I was out of health potions and resorting to using those humanity things for heals. If this fight was anything to go by, the game is only going to get harder, so I figured I'd take a break and ask some questions to spare myself undue suffering.
the anor londo archer/scaffolding section is one of the most frustrating in the game, so try not to be too discouraged
ahh shit. The guy I meant to post a picture of is the sun dude. The meme guy I always see of praising the sun.
lmao nevermind you made it
Easiest strat is to kill Ornstein (dragon man) first before even touching Smough. Also, Smough is too stupid to walk around pillars a lot of the time so you want to keep a pillar between you and Smough as often as possible when fighting Ornstein.
are you playing with a mouse and keyboard
yeah I figured that out a little late lol. I had both Smough and Ornstein down to 10% health each because I thought I had to kill them at the same time type deal. Then he turned Ornstein into a fucking pancake and his HP refilled. That solaire guy I brought in made Ornstein his bitch though. hits like a truck. Between me and him, we had Ornstein corned and stun locked
No, I'm using Xbox One controller with wireless adapter. To take screen shots, I use Nvidia Shadowplay (Alt+F1)
I'll keep an eye out then. I'm going to take a break from the game for a little. I feel like I haven't blinked in hours my eyes are so dry. I have a couple hundred hours between The Surge 1 and 2, so this isn't my first action RPG. But still the difficulty scaling of each area was steep. Like what the fuck was that running around the roof of a cathedral battling ninjas dressed in white? Fell to my death like 4 times.
Only read this post if you don't mind getting help.
I'm telling you right now you'll probably need to upgrade your weapon to +10 to even make a chance against Biggie Smalls as a newbie. You'll need to go back though and you have to kill Capra Demon to get a key, and the key opens up a door and behind that door somewhere is the item you need in order to upgrade your shit beyond +5. You'll also need a key to reach the Capra Demon which is located near the large gate behind the first Fang Boar you kill.
You don't have to go through Sen's Fortress all the way btw to go back, you can get a key somewhere in the area before Anor Londo which opens up a cage and the cage takes you down to the beginning of Sen's Fortress.
>Biggie Smalls
Who?
>Key in snek fortress
I found that cage shortcut. I thoroughly explored the entirety of that dungeon/place. Even found the mage man locked in a cage after using the ball to smash through a wall.
oh shit you're referring to fat fuck Smough and his God damned constant hammer charges and the Naruto dragon man who likes lightning? I managed to kill them. It wasn't easy and I needed help from that Solaire guy and I was using humanity as heals towards the end, but I managed to do it. Solaire died though.
I just googled Biggie Smalls Dark Souls lmao
>claymore
Excellent taste!
Good stat specialization. One my first playthrough I had a bad habit of trying to put points in everything. Personally, I think your gear is fine. Claymore is an all around decent weapon though at this point you can upgrade your weap past level 5.
It was a bastard to get. That damned dragon did NOT make it easy. I got hit by the first sweeping of fire across the bridge and managed to live. Healed real quick and just fucking booked it to the end of the bridge. Managed to barely make it in just as it did another breath of fire.
Wasn't until backtracking that I saw the staircase lol. I got my weapon of choice by sheer chance and complete panic.
If you killed Drake and Josh on your first playthrough with a +5 weapon then props to you. Most people clear the Depths before reaching Anor Londo so they usually have a +10 weapon at that point.
Shit, at least it worked out in the end.
Level doesn't really matter, +5 weapons suck and need to go back and upgrade that. If you didn't skip through the game with the master key you would have found the item you need to start upgrading your weapons more a long time ago in the depths.
>Skip through with master key
The only thing I've unlocked this far with this key is some random house in the undead town (3x lightning dust) and a gate that lead back to firelink shrine after running past that huge zombie dragon clinging to the side of the cliff.
You can literally skip an entire area which includes a boss fight with the master key. It also happens to be the worst area in the entire game besides Lost Izalith.
well sweet. However I do have to get my weapon upgrades because swinging a shit load of times is going to get old quick. Gotta find the sewers then. I know Titanite shards were for my weapon up until +5. I assume Large titanite shards and chunks are for the later upgrade levels. Because I have a fair amount of those.
had a true sweaty palms moment. Honestly this game is giving me a great time thus far. Exploring the area turns deadly real fucking quick and makes you have to keep on your toes.
Correct. Large titanite shards to +10 and Chunks to +14, you need a Titanite Slab for +15 which are quite rare (but can be farmed if I'm correct)
nah buddy this is how you play souls
youtube.com
>going in blind
>Chaos Servant
I’m skeptical since that covenant is hidden behind an illusionary wall
t. pirated DS
Soap Stone messages are a thing, user.
staying in it can allow you to skip 2 bosses, i will say no more
That's why Dark Souls is so immerssive for me personally. It's not a game tou can just go through on autopilot. At least no until you really get good. I'm glad to hear yourcenjoying the game, user. DS1 is a classic.
My friend told me that there are secrets everywhere and usually hidden behind fake walls that disappear. I've spent...a lot of time slashing various walls everywhere I go. Also as said, I kept seeing messages all over about "something ahead" and so on.
if Dark Souls 2 and 3 are anything like 1, I'll make sure to buy those too.
hmmmm. I assume it has something to do with how much humanity I'm giving to the praying spider girl? I gave her like 5 or 6 and I've gotten nothing from it.
30
You don't have to slash them btw, you can roll through them as well.
>Went in blind
>No points in resistance
I'm a little suspicious, but you did do the right thing.
>if Dark Souls 2 and 3 are anything like 1
Chosen Undead, I...
skip 2, 3 is still a pretty good game with many improvements but it's just not the same
Jesus that's a lot of shit to give away just for a guild or covenant. I hope it will be worth it.
lol of course. I've had to repair my sword like 6 times now because of the sheer number of walls I've bee nslashing. Also I know for a fact there's more to explore in the poison swamp area where I had to go to kill the lava spider woman. But EVERYTHING IN THAT AREA IF PURE HATE. Fucking poison water. Weird creatures with lava tongues or whips. Constant spawning blood shooting bugs and those FAGGOTS who shoot toxic darts that I cannot fucking cure myself of.
>almost minmaxed stats
>Chaos Servant
>master key
No way this guy went in blind
Everything about his stats shows he used some kind of guide. I mean he stopped at 28 STR lol
Don't play 2, it's seriously terrible. I finished my umpteenth playthrough of DS1 literally last weekend and thought I'd try to play through DS2/SOTFS again for the first time in 5 years. I genuinely used to think it was a good game but now I can't stand it. Everything about it feels fucking terrible and I'm getting upset just reminding myself of it.
Only play it if you enjoy dumping 20+ levels into an arbitrary stat to allow you to dodge normally, if you enjoy being gangbanged and pushed around with no control of your character, if you enjoy getting killed by hits that don't touch remotely near your body (can also happen in the middle of having iframes from a roll), if you enjoy extremely clunky movement and where every weapon swing is painfully tedious with very slow animations and shitty hit sounds that don't feel satisfying at all, and if you think enemies being able to instantly go from one attack animation into another and being unpredictable as hell is fun.
Oh and as a cherry on top, there's a Soul Memory system and what it basically does is disable online interactions at all. You will literally not be able to find other players to play with, so expect zero coop and zero pvp until after you've beaten the game and reached Soul Memory in the millions, which is where you'll find players ranging from your own level to level 999 with maxed out everything.
Oh, and there is no infinite use invasion orb like in DS1 and DS3. You have a very tedious grind to do every single time you want to do any kind of invading.
I read the description of each stat. After getting my hands on the Claymore, I saw how much stamina it took to swing 2 handed so I started dumping points into endurance so I can keep swinging. Then I saw how quick I was dying, so I started pumping points into health.
>minmaxed
What's that? I chose master key because the other gifts didn't seem to make sense. To me, Master key = Skeleton key which means I can get around easier. I've only used the key twice though.
I originally only had 20, but I got the greatsword that needed 28 strength to use. Which was a fucking waste because I hate how slow the sword is.
Well, I didn't want to scare him off 2, but I suppose it's best he learns now...
>Starts with master key
>misses large ember
LIKE POTTERY
Seriously though, all of my friends did this.
>Fuck fighting the capra demon, I'll just skip straight to the blighttown swamp
>WTF why is everything so hard to kill >:(
there's a whole area with its own covenant beneath Blight Town
Also there's a ring that lets you run through the Asylum Demon shit that poisons you
there's no way you'll figure it out on your own how to get said ring though
hint: you have to be a real EGGhead to figure it out, even our physicist friend who wields a CROWbar would have a hard time figuring it out
DS2 is a great game. You don’t “need” to dump any points into ADP, I’ve beaten the game plenty of times without levelling it at all. You “needing” ADP just shows how dogshit you are at the game.
Oh and I recently replayed the game and every boss fog had summon signs.
kek good job retard
I don't even know what this Capra demon is. you're not the first ITT to mention it. Apparently I've completely skipped an entire area where this demon is along with an ember and what not.
so the crow is somehow linked. Now for the sake of argument, say I was shooting the crow with a bow and arrow a bunch of times until it flew away. Does it come back? Hypothetical question for a friend of course.
That's really a shame to hear :(. Does the lore at least interconnect to the first game? Like similar areas and so on from the 1st game? I can put up with shit tier combat if the environment is cool. I put up with The Surge 1.
