Why would anyone shill against this? It's an extra platform with lower margins than Steam, which gives devs another option as well as another incentive to bring their games to PC since Gaben isn't taking his gigantic cut anymore (like Rockstar did with RDR2), it creates more competition in the market, which will hopefully drive Valve to fix their garbage fucking app and make it less of a resource hog, and it takes a cut out of Steam's revenue, and hopefully will drive Gaben to get off his fat fucking ass and start making video games again.

I literally can't imagine how anyone would be against this unless if they were some kind of brand loyalist

they're lazy enough to create a new account
pro tip
it took me more time to write this than to create a new account
yes, a bunch of accounts suck but I like free games

The developer cut doesn't benefit me so it may as well not exist.

It does benefit you though. The difference between a 5% cut and a 30% cut could make the difference between a dev bringing their game to PC or not. Less margins for the platform also means the dev gets more revenue out of the game, and will hopefully continue producing games.

I'm shilling against it because I can't import existing game installs, and I can't move the ones from EGS either. I have to fully redownload every single game when I need to reinstall Windows. So it doesn't have the basic functionality a platform for PC should have.

1. It doesn't benefit me because I still pay $60 for the game.
2. The developer can easily sell the game itself and get 100% of the cut; not even the EGS is needed.
3. 30% is the standard cut for digital goods, be Sony, Nintendo or the PlayStore. By that logic developers wouldn't bother with any platform.
4. PC has piracy so the developer will always lose sales, cut or not.
5. "Hopefully" doesn't mean anything.

>imagine shilling chinese botnets for free

Competition is great. I love that AMD is competitive with Intel again, now we're seeing actual improvements again.

I would support Epic so Steam would be forced to give us more. But Epic has literally no advantages and is violently anti-consumer.

What games apart from some AAA titles and console exclusives don't come on PC? Almost the entire indie market is on PC. EGS does not have any kind of mod support, a sorry ass excuse for an UI, fuck all features and exclusive deals that do nothing but make me pirate those games. At least it did wake up the steam developers from their thousand year sleep but that does not mean EGS as a platform is any good compared to steam.

Ni hao, bugman!

This desu. They're just throwing Fortnite/Tencent money at developers for exclusives to try to brute force their way into the market. Too bad they can't do the same for their platform.

> with lower margins than Steam,
i'm not a fucking developer if the game isn't cheaper for me, why the fuck would i care about that shit shill?

>Seething steamie can't into logic and facts
Not surprising in the least. Games go on sale all the time

If the cut mattered at all to developers, they wouldn't have to bribe them to release on epic store.
The least they could do is pass on that saving to me, but no.

no achievements and mod support

>1. It doesn't benefit me because I still pay $60 for the game.
The game exists in the first place, and you're willing to buy it. This is a net positive for you whether you'll wanna admit it or not. If circumstances were different, the game might have never existed
>2. The developer can easily sell the game itself and get 100% of the cut; not even the EGS is needed.
And how do you propose they do this? Start another launcher platform to compete with everyone like Uplay, Origin and Rockstar Launcher? Remind me again, how did those go?
>3. 30% is the standard cut for digital goods, be Sony, Nintendo or the PlayStore. By that logic developers wouldn't bother with any platform.
PC is harder to develop for; you're not optimizing your game for a single hardware, but for multiple different ones. The competition is obviously meant to extend to consoles as well though, and a lower cut on a different platform makes it more attractive to the devs. Remember how we never got RDR1 on PC? Might have been different if EGS existed back then
>4. PC has piracy so the developer will always lose sales, cut or not.
...Okay? What's your point exactly? They don't LOSE money when someone pirates their game, they don't GET money when they don't release their game on a platform. Piracy is always a risk, whether on console or PC, what's your point supposed to be here exactly?
>5. "Hopefully" doesn't mean anything.
Are you seriously so desperate you're arguing semantics here?

ok chink , whatever helps you sleep better at night paying overpriced shit games
i'll give you a hint
i dont buy games so hard to be a steam whore like you are a chink slave

Hola Chang

>t-those sales don't count!
OK steamie

The most frequent asnwer to the "why don't you pirate games?" question in piracy threads is: "because I want to support developers," so it's kinda relevant in this context.

>"We would have had RDR1 if EGS existed back then"
There's no single reason why the existence of EGS would have made RDR1 for PC happen. You're still on PC, that platform that's more difficult to develop and optimize for, no matter the launcher. Also Playstore allows for many Android devices, yet also only does 30%. Your logic is a fallacy.

Dilate

>"We would have had RDR1 if EGS existed back then"
Ironic how you strawman someone and in the same sentence accuse them of fallacies

Will it run on Linux distributions?

>Epic store thread
>STEAM!
>But steam!
>What about steam!
>STEAM!
Every time, it's hilarious.
If your store can't stand on it's own and is forced to bribe publishers so they don't release their games anywhere else you are doing something horribly wrong.

Not to mention the first thing you did when announcing the store was to say that it's all about developers, which is a massive lie since all the money goes to publishers not developers, and that costumers don't matter and are toxic for wanting to discuss games.
Good job fucking everything up before you even start.

good sales epicros

Attached: 1586352291450.png (1600x900, 223.33K)

I don't "shill" against it. I just ignore it entirely. Hell, I'd never even discuss it if fucks like you wouldn't make threads about it daily.

But it has nothing to do with the context.
You do realize all the money goes to publishers, not developers, right?

>>"...so deseprate you're arguing semantics?"
You don't get to use a non-concrete as a point in EGS' favor and then whine when someone points out something you can't prove is not a point in the EGS's favor.

88% x 0 = 0
or to be more accurate in this case,
88% x (games price) x (low sales number) = (low revenue number), it's basic maths.
giving 88% to developpers won't really help them much if the games do not sell well, which is why you do not bite the hand that feeds you (in this case, the consumers are the ones being "fed" by the EGS and developpers). as a company selling a product or service you should never forget that the sole reason you are still there is because your customers give you money. you should therefore prioritize the people that give you money but not in detriment to those who make the products

>you do not bite the hand that feeds you (in this case, the consumers are the ones being "fed" by the EGS and developpers)
sorry, I got it backwards: the consumers are feeding EGS and the devs by giving their money

Games on EGS get a predetermined amount of sales from Epic Games themselves, usually as many as they would have sold if they were sold on other platforms. Epic Games holding sales is basically lowering their own costs.

>Games on EGS get a predetermined amount of sales from Epic Games themselves
this is only the case if you accept the temporary exclusivity deal though, which was not mentioned in the previous posts. otherwise devs do not get guaranteed sales if they sell their game(s) on other PC storefronts.

Tencent

In this day and age practically every dev is putting their game on PC, and the ones who are not are doing so because they have some kind of distaste for the platform itself, see Atlus and Vanillaware. I highly doubt a 18% higher revenue share would convince them.

>What the fuck, bro? Why don't you want to buy objectively inferior versions of games just so the devs make more money?

Attached: sad-white-cat-desktop-background.jpg (2000x1333, 169.5K)

I'll download it when it's not spyware tier software

Steam's user experiance is much better. I use many services this paltform provides but Epic doesn't care to implement. I like their UI better I like their social features, mod support, profile customization, screenshot gallery and many more. I also preffer to have my games in one spot for my own convinience. You don't care, fine but stop calling everyone who does a valve shill, when unironically shilling for Epic

Companies that expect me to switch platforms for one game, because of their exclusivity deal can suck my cock. I rather wait for steam sale 1 year later, I have shitton of other games to play anyway. I bought Borderlands 3 on epic and i regret it still. Shit was not ready for release and I agreed to purchase it on an inferior platform like an autist

Epic can have its low cut, but 88% of 0 is still 0 in my case. Introducing console wars to PC is BS and will always result in spike of piracy

It's the same subscription services BS all over again. Noone is happy having to upkeep couple subscirption services at once because couple fag companies have decided they want piece of that pie as well resulting in every show I wanna watch being exclusive to a different platform

Valve is god

WHERE'S THE SHOPPING CART TIMMY?
Even fucking scam sites have shopping carts.
Also EGS's UI is fucking awful.

Valvedrônes are subhuman simps.

The only remotely viable reason to hate this that I can think of is the fact that it's owned by chinks. But then again, people that do hate it don't actually care who owns what, otherwise they wouldn't use a great number of other platforms, including Steam, that's owned by the industry traitor Valve. Honestly it's just brand loyalty and nothing more, and it's pretty disgusting to see this.

I shill against it because Epic broke the gentlemen's agreement by bringing console bullshit (aka platform exclusivity) to PC. They singlehandedly divided the PC community and that is a sin I cannot forgive

Because GOG already existed as the consumer friendly competition for Steam. Epic offers absolutely nothing over Steam or GOG for the consumer. I could not give any less of a fuck about muh dev cuts when epic still doesn't have a functional shopping cart.
>b-but no AAA devs put their games on GOG
That's because all AAA publishers are pure cancer and their games should be pirated.

This. GoG is great. Epic is where failures go to get free Chinkbux while acting holier-than-thou.

>b-but no AAA devs put their games on GOG
Who even uses this as an argument anyway? If I go on a website called GOOD OLD GAMES I'm not going to be demanding shit that was released in the last 10 years. Why the fuck would anyone expect otherwise?

GoG was already a thing and I don't care about dev cuts when steam has orders of magnitude morr functionality than the epic client while still managing to be more responsive.

Also valve has allowed me to ditch windows completely while tim is still sucking microsoft's cock.

It hasn't been called good old games for years you fucking troglodyte. They have been selling new games for ages.

The reason why they don't have AAA games is because AAA publishers want to slap cancer drm all over their games which GOG doesn't allow.

What the hell do you need a shopping cart for? Just buy the fucking game

>against
They brought console warring to PC. That alone is enough reason to hate it forever.

Attached: 1518930366002.png (169x200, 80.43K)

Nice argument retard.

>Wanna buy 2 or 3 games
>Have to make 2 or 3 separate purchases which all show up individually on a credit card, needlessly cluttering my billing history and depending on how autistic your CC company is, may be grounds for them to lock your card until you call and explain that it was in fact you and not someone who stole your card

dialte tranny nobody needs a shopping cart for buying video games

Attached: 1585677823961.png (936x892, 948.66K)

>And how do you propose they do this? Start another launcher platform to compete with everyone like Uplay, Origin and Rockstar Launcher? Remind me again, how did those go?
Maybe you are unaware but you can sell an exe without a launcher. Its baffling that you are shitting on uplay and origin while sucking off epic

> with lower margins than Steam
than make the prices lower then steam. I don't give a fuck about what cut the developers makes (or rather the publisher as codemonkeys get paid for the hour anyways). But if new AAA releases that are 60$ on Steam were, say, 55$ on Ebin that would likely be enough to forgive the generally awful store experience and usability.
also pic related

Attached: competiotion.jpg (1309x926, 270.81K)

you still shouldn't be expecting newer AAA on the platform when the focus of the site is maintaining DRM free versions of older games for newer systems. No one is saying you can't release newer games, you just shouldn't be surprised when that's not the main goal

why would you buy multiple games at once? this is fucking retarded logic. Just play one at a time unless you're a fucking ADD retard

It's Chinese
If after the world is under lockdown, you can't see why you shouldn't boycott anything Chinese then at this point you're a lost cause

>3rd party exclusivity

nah I'll just keep pirating everything on epic games/steam store and buy everything else on gog

>the dev gets more revenue
I think you meant the publisher

>Because GOG already existed as the consumer friendly competition for Steam.

And GOG is fucking irrelevant and only ever brought up by Steam shills like RPGcodex or Yas Forums

Sales

>See 2 or 3 games I want on sale all at the same time
>Sale will end before I can finish any of them individually
>JUZ' BUY ONE THEN ONE LATER BREV, WHAT DE POBLEM!!
No.

egs is more irrelevant even than gog. if not money from fortnite it would be dead months ago

How short sighted do you have to be to post this? This has to be bait.

I will never accept anything that has the Fortnite zoomer stench all over it.

>if not money from fortnite it would be dead months ago

Do Steam drones forget UE4 exists because Source was such a flop that even the last dev that used it dropped it for their Star Wars game?

Attached: jedi fallen order ue4.jpg (1634x960, 359.79K)

>Steam is a monopoly and needs competition
>but what about all the competition that already exists
>it doesn't count
brilliant

>Its another Tiananmen square thread

ok then, if not fortnite AND ue4, egs would be dead months ago, happy?

When I buy from them, my money is going directly to a country who handled their corona pandemic so badly it fucking spread over here. So yeah, after all that bullshit, I think it's safe to say I'm not giving another red cent to the People's Republic of China ever again.

Licensing out an Engine doesn't cost anywhere near enough to support the giant that Epic is. Where the bulk of their funds actually come is Chinese tax dollars with Fortnite as a secondary. This is because Tencent uses Fortnite as an influence platform against the youth of America, Europe, and their own lands, plus just about anywhere else that has Internet.

tim sweeney is openly anti open source software and has purposefuly sabotaged the development of gaming on linux by buying easy anticheat and preventing them from discussing the matter with valve, and shutting down the linux build of rocket league after they acquired the game, and he even has compared using software that respects your privacy over propietary spyware to "moving to canada because you don't like the president"

Attached: 1586371261311.png (450x399, 294.75K)

GOG never put a serious dent into the Steam monopoly. They had a chance with the Witcher games and could have made 2 or 3 or even Cyberpunk exclusive to GOG, but they didn't

>Licensing out an Engine doesn't cost anywhere near enough to support the giant that Epic is.

Epic gets royalties for one of the most popular engines that even the Japanese adopted it. Have to press X to doubt on that one.

>could have made 2 or 3 or even Cyberpunk exclusive to GOG, but they didn't
and that is why their costumers, me included, love them

It's a bad service and I don't want to use it because of this. How is that hard to grasp?

they get like 5% from games and lose 100% on exclusives, yeah egs is making so much money lol

Their entire business model depends on having a cashcow named Fortnite so they can afford to spend as much as they want buying exclusives and giving away free games.
Once the kids move on to a new game and the Fortnite money dries up, they'll be just another crappy storefront like origin or uplay.

>Once the kids move on to a new game

Look up Valorant, Steamie. It's CSGO that's going to die.

>nvidia vs. amd
>windows vs. linux
>pc master race vs. "console peasants"
console warring was already on pc, all tencent did was apply it to launchers.

>monopoly
There's Origin, Discord, itch.io. uplay and others. Just because they are less popular doesn't mean they don't exist
Pretending that Steam is the only pc storefront is seriously disingenuous

cs will unironically outlive fortnite

nearly all businesses in existence rely on external capital for funding until they become profitable years down the road
