When did Persona steal Final Fantasy's position as the definitive JRPG?
When did Persona steal Final Fantasy's position as the definitive JRPG?
When it started to become a friend simulator for losers and neets.
FF7R already has more preorders than P5 has sales. Cope.
Final_Fantasy_Games>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Persona games
Theyre better games but FF is far more iconic so no.
If it's definitive, why is it selling much much less than FF
Suppose sports games are the most definitive games of all time then.
Yes? Every normie has fifa, that's why PS4 sells
>When did Persona steal Final Fantasy's position as the definitive JRPG?
probably around the time of Persona 4.
FF hasn't been good since X
I never liked a single FF but they can't be worse than P5.
P3 and 4 are of course better than any Final Fantasy.
But Shin megami tensei always was the definitive JRPG?
It never has. Persona 5 was more successful than anticipated.
Yeah everyone automatically thinks of messi when someone brings up video games
I would probably say more p4g than p4, but desu it was really p5 that made it mainstream
smt walked so persona could run
>FF15 - 8.9 million.
>Persona 5 - 3.2 million
Both persona and final fantasy are gay
Don't care for the series but vast majority of FFs are of much higher quality artistically than Persona or SMT. Atlus just rips off whatever popular anime or just bases a game around buddhism or christianity 101 and calls it a day.
sales =/= quality.
P5 was a much better game than that unfinished piece of trash
Imagine actually believing this
>lol persona is obviously better than SMT just look at the sales
>wtf just because FF sells more than persona doesn't mean it's better
fpbp
>Atlus just rips off whatever popular anime or just bases a game around buddhism or christianity 101 and calls it a day.
This is bait isn't it?
Persona's personas come from the demons of shin megami tensei.
persona was originally a spin-off to smt which has one big lore as old as the megami tensei novels in the 80s
Megaten as whole ripped off a whole lot of shit user.
Persona 5 was better than FF15 but you can't deny that it was pretty much rushed out the door. It was painfully obvious they had to wipe the slate clean and start over especially with the story which is why characters like Haru and Pancakeman are severely underutilized
>It was painfully obvious they had to wipe the slate clean and start over especially with the story which is why characters like Haru and Pancakeman are severely underutilized
they feel more fleshed out than anything in 15
And all that ripping off leads to the abrahamic religion
Who cares if you're rippping off, as long as you transform it into something of your own
No it wasn't. P5 was 50 hours of boring anime cutscenes featuring the same old recycled character tropes you've seen a hundred times already, and another 50 hours of shitty corridors and mouse minigames. FF15 was at least unique with more interesting characters and premise. The world was infinitely more fun and exciting to traverse than said corridors of ugly colors.
Much better game but still complete fucking trash and by far the worst Persona game and a terrible JRPG overall
*bases entire franchise around a novel that is literally just evilspeak with the names changed*
Heh, nuthin personnell
>muh rip off
How dense are you? Mythology is the core of the franchise, the gods and demons in the game are meant to be the embodiment of the real thing they're based on, so it only makes sense that they look and feel the same. The writers and artists of the games do their research and carefully adapt it into the games without compromising the original meaning, and it takes skill to do that. Any 12 year old on deviant art can make an oc donut steel and copy + paste some god's name from wikipedia, which is exactly what Final Fantasy does all the time.
This is equivalent to complaining that Law in Tekken is just a Bruce Lee ripoff
Come on, bro. Persona 5 was really bad but FF15 was literally trash. Not a single good aspect to that game. It's funny actually lol
>FF15 was at least unique with more interesting characters and premise.
that failed to deliver on anything because "lol, watch a movie or buy DLC"
>The world was infinitely more fun and exciting to traverse than said corridors of ugly colors.
it felt emptier than fucking MGS5
From the second game onwards it has nothing to do with the novel
And that was before it even became Shin Megami Tensei
Great Persona games:
>Persona 3
>Person 4
>Persona 5
Great Final Fantasy games:
>Final Fantasy 3
>Final Fantasy 4
>Final Fantasy 5
Coincidence?
FF15 wasn't trash. I don't have to prove anything to ironic weebs on how much I fucking LOOOOVE *insert basedface here* ancient turn based games liek RaEL GAYMERS.
>that failed to deliver on anything because "lol, watch a movie or buy DLC"
mad because your shitty series has no real funding and can't get a movie? Maybe if you buy ten more slightly altered editions for full price they might get an actual budget lol(still doubt it).
When Final Fantasy decided it didn't want to be an RPG anymore.
>RPG = TURN BASED AND OFF-SCREEN ENCOUNTERS
wow so deep, I can just feel the role of it all
>and can't get a movie?
P5 didn't need a movie.
FF15's movie was the prologue gutted from the game and sold back
>Square spends millions upon millions of dollars
>still can't make an HD game as good as fucking Persona 4 on the PS2
>P5 didn't need a movie.
cope. It could've used a movie instead of 50 hours of cheap welfare cutscenes(and 4 seconds of anime lol).
>FF15's movie was the prologue gutted from the game and sold back
blah blah sure thing buddy, now have you bought the regal edition? Or was it royal?
>>RPG = TURN BASED
Yes.
probably when FF stopped being an RPG and started being a bad action game.
>now have you bought the regal edition? Or was it royal?
I got the game shortly after launch so I don't have the Royal Edition DLC and considering it makes this game even easier and the game is still unfinished, I did not pay for it
Because Atlus is actually making games people want? People talk about Persona all the time while FF13 and FF15 dropped off a cliff.
When FFXII fucked everything up.
>Gutted the backstory to sell
>Gutted the character backstories to sell
>Intended shit like the villains entire motivation to be added as DLC
15 was marketing board room trash gone wrong
But FFXII is the last good FF.
>>Intended shit like the villains entire motivation to be added as DLC
and his motivations retcons the fuck out of everything. Doesn't help it was released over 2 years after the game came out, so it felt like they no longer cared.
Persona is a friend simulator? Seriously?
How so? I've never played the game btw
>Dude what if we made half the playable cast be inconsequential to the story
>Dude what if we made a cast that barely says anything and almost never interacts with each other
>Dude what if we made multiple cutscenes where the main character has no idea what's going on and just stands in the background while people who matter speak
>Dude what if we made a character who's literally just a random girl off the street
>Dude what if we made a villain who has zero emotional connection to the heroes and doesn't even meet them until the last ten minutes
>Dude what if we took Final Fantasy Tactics' setting and made it a poor man's Star Wars
>Dude what if we gave the narrator a comical Apu accent
>Dude what if we made a political plot and then ruined it by turning it into standard ancient god shenanigans
>Dude what if we made a plot where the heroes have almost no impact on what happens until 95% of the way through the story and spend their time traipsing through non-descript caves and ruins
>Dude what if I'm Captain Basch
>Dude what if we made the sheathing/unsheathing animation stop you before and after every battle
>Dude what if we took everything 100% seriously and had zero levity
>Dude what if we wrote all of the dialogue to sound like a Renaissance Fair
>Dude what if we we had no overworld and all travel was handled by a menu or floating teleport crystals
>Dude what if we made a battle system where you set everything up in advance so that you don't actually play the game
>Dude what if we made summons useless except for opening doors
>Dude what if instead of fun side quests we had only fetch/kill quests like in some generic MMO
>Dude what if instead of having fun side games like the motorcycle chase and Triple Triad we had nothing
>Dude what if we had really shitty music
The whole selling point is that there's a friendship meter called social links that you raise by talking to people and hearing them suck your dick, and you get gameplay bonuses for doing it
1996
A core mechanic of the series since 3 has been social links. Literally hanging out with friends
But they've only made one game this gen?
SMT still rips off a lot of shit from old OVAs, novels, movies, etc.
You'd need to be quite delusional to think Persona 5 can hold a candle to FF XV
ff13 was uniquely bad from what i remember
ff11 and 14 are mmos, so they're trash as well
Yeah Persona is weird when you put it like that
Yeah, they made Beetlejuice into a demon. Why am I supposed to be offended by this?
Wow... no wonder we see so many Persona threads on this shithole
