i fucking love the HECU
0/10, it's a shit "game" because only Nintendo makes actual games.
I like HL1 more than HL2
I love half life. It's one of my favourite game series and science fiction stories in general. Black Mesa is kino as well.
Half Life 2 gets a bad rap.
best weapon set ever in a game
best enemy designs ever in a game
great environment. the DSPs felt revolutionary at the time and they are still underused in lesser games today
I played it in one sitting the night it came out, something like 13 hours.
DARG
I fucking love the entire half life series
Reminder that dimensional portals are real and so are extra-dimensional aliens. A lot of our microwave technology is also based on their technology.
it was a great example of having storytelling in games without cutscenes.
that also gave us the worst aspect of modern games, unskippable story exposition.
No, the worst aspect of modern games is microtransactions and DLCs, bar none. Also it's not Half Life's fault other game companies can't reach its heights.
DLC is just a modern expansion pack.
And I didn't blame half life, just the hairbrains trying and failing to do what HL did.
straight up i love half life 1 more than 2
dont get me wrong, 2 had a great story, but 1 hits the mechanically tight gameplay that i fucking love way more than a cool story
>DLC is just a modern expansion pack.
oh sweet summer nigger
>DLC is just a modern expansion pack
Wrong. It's a completely different concept. DLCs are planned from day 1 of development and are usually things that should've been in the base game but were cut in order to make more money. Expansion packs were just that: expansions. They usually involved entirely new stories and gameplay and were basically almost sequels and would only get made if the base game did well.
half life 2 is the worst fps of all time, it created the modern cancerous garbage fps
half life 1 is good though
I don’t care. When is the Artifact relaunch?
Stop being a mouthbreather for one day.
HL1 - The first FPS that integrated a compelling story with the FPS genre. I remember when that came out. For Valve, it was like printing money.
The game was super-addictive. You just had to know what was around the next corner. The intro is now iconic.
HL2 - Physics puzzles wrapped around an FPS game. Everyone went bonkers over the gravity gun. Personally, I wasn't as enamored with it as HL1 but it was a nice game.
Valve screwed themselves over by not following through with the episodic vision and never releasing a 3rd game in the series. But, by then, Steam was established and printing even more money than HL1.
In the end, I think that Valve couldn't see the forest from the trees with the series. They feel as though they need some revolutionary tech / game mechanic for them to justify making a game. Look at Alyx: It's VR meets HL. That's it.
Black Mesa is far better than original Half Life ever were.
>it created the modern cancerous garbage fps
imagine having your opinions on things (especially before your time) dictated you by other people who also weren't alive, from Yas Forums
the games that created "cancerous modern fps" are indisputably halo 2 and CoD4. AKA, FPS becoming popular with console players. what a surprise.
ANYTHING about Half-Life.
Stop seething so much you goddam poorcel. It's a good thing Valve is doing something for VR and it's a good thing to try new things.
HL 1 and 2 are just tech demos of their respective eras. As a consequence they have both aged poorly.
Replayed it a couple years back. The beginning is really kino and entertaining, but the all the hitscan enemies later on make the combat tedious. And Xen can suck a fat one.
Overall, the game's ok, but time hasn't been kind to it. Not gonna be replaying it anytime soon.
Im very interested in the world of half life. I wish mard laidlaw would write half life books
It's loosely inspired by Stephen King's The Mist.
Black Mesa was an inside job.
The best thing about half life was the absolute explosion of the mod community around it.
I do too AND i prefer the older low poly models to new HD models.
This. Black Mesa is the best and the last total conversion mod.
Playing with hd models is a sin
>UI have discovered new radoactive isatope but it is so vollatile that it does not have a half-life but quarter-life so we must observe with hasty
Is Black Mesa good? I heard some things changed but was it a good change?
Yes, it's great. The biggest changes are in Xen but they add little tweaks to the rest of the levels to make them cooler and more organic. But you will totally recognize the areas if you've played HL1 first.
And to add: the changes to Xen potentially makes Black Mesa's Xen cooler than the original. It's really impressive this kind of AAA overhaul was done by a small mod team (it did take them almost two decades though).
Nice, gonna pick it up soon then
I may sound like a shill, but I totally would support these guys and buy their game. They deserve it.
I've played through HL1 like 15 times and I thought Black Mesa was pretty great. I liked being able to pick out all the little changes they made to the facility, and Xen (while stretched a little too long) is far better than HL1's Xen.
based
the PS2 port is good
I finished Decay with my mum years ago
based I wish I had a gamer mom
Black Mesa is garbage. It's not Half-Life and doesn't play like it whatsoever. They broke the way the enemies work which was (and still is) best in class of any FPS game, changed them to brainless line-of-sight laserbeams.
And there's the seething shitter complaining about difficulty again. God we can't go one thread without one of you around.
Xen was pretty but I couldn't stand the soundtrack.
they're waiting for you gordon
in the sex chamberrrrr
im not whoever you think i am and the issue isnt "difficulty" the issue is the game being turned into a console hide behind boxes and pop out to shoot game, where grunts shoot you instantly with 0ms delay
the original game is not like this and it ruins the gameplay
They fixed that.
Nigga I just finished my 1.0 playthrough and I never once hid behind boxes. I was always a speedy Gonzalez type of player and Black Mesa totally encourages that.
oh, i suspend my opinion then
didn't they remove "on a rail" though? im not really cool with removing parts of the game because MODERN GAYMURZ dont like it as much
Half Life 2 has gone from being massively overrated to massively underrated on Yas Forums. It's a very fun game!
Plasma harness
There's a mod for the mod that replaces it. If that's what you want. Otherwise it's really not missed.
This slut needs to stay away from Takeshi
On a Rail is still there.
λ2
core flaps, four of them
On a Rail wasn't removed but it was significantly reworked.
Hl1 feels like a game that came from a focused vision, Hl2 feels like a bunch of ideas thrown together without second thought, focus on them or even an attempt at finishing them. From car sections to squad commanding, from zombie town to episodic game releases.
I mean, what the fuck? Focus on something, you fucking morons.
Special weapon, a titanium pipe.
Nigga Half Life 2 is literally 1984: Viva La Revolution. What part of that did you not understand?
it's a shitty game and a buggy one at that too
the models in my version of half life 1 have some glitched animations where this shit happens
imgur.com
anybody got a fix for it?
HL1 isn't a bunch of ideas thrown together?
>marine squad combat
>blind tentacle stealth section
>ohh big scary garg
>tram level
>underwater section
>ninjas
Every section is totally different with new game mechanics, that's what people like about HL desu
