I’m about to play this for the first time. The only other MH game I’ve played is World. What am I in for?

A lot of monsters to hunt
A significantly less enjoyable experience but more content
good game and a lot of content.
its got a bit of a learning curve though
>A significantly less enjoyable experience
In what way?
Everything is going to be exponentially more tedious than world be prepared.
Also it doesn't really pick up until 5* quests or so. Beginning is bloated with garbage quests
Just assume every time a monster attacks or moves it's whole body will become a hitbox
tedious and monotonous fights and grinding
just like every other monster hunter game
Loss of QoL improvements, more needless grinding
A significantly better experience than World if you're willing to put the time in.
A lot of fetch quest and very different gameplay. Play 4U instead if you want the classic MH experience.
>QoL improvements
People always say this, but the only ones that stick out are seeing HH songs as you play them, having infinite pickaxes/nets/whetstones, and having a "take all rewards" button. I don't know where people are seeing any other QoL changes.
Funnily enough both of those make World the less enjoyable experience if you actually played the series
BING BING WAHOO!
Just do the key quests and don't burn yourself out on villager requests and gathering quests. There are plenty of online resources to help out with that, like Kiranico and Ping's Dex.
Why are so many people suddenly getting into this game? I recently started playing again(haven’t played it in about a year) because I was burned out on MHW, and was surprised to see so many people online.
>infinite pickaxes/nets/whetstones, and having a "take all rewards" button.
these things and the item wheel are very big improvements, I've played world first and finished 4U after. This kinds of things are very annoying and a big turn off if you don't have the patience. I was able to deal with it and finished 4U but you can't deny that those things listed are a big deal.
I've played every Monster Hunter except this one and just started recently because of the cat lolis.. It being a shitty handheld port is cancerous as expected. Does the Switch version not get a bigger fov? Because I don't remember 3U having that issue but youtube videos seem to show the Switch version looks all scrunched up as well.
Because World is shit and this is the other most recent MH game.
a quite different experience, more akin to older titles, although with so weird assery
think of a portable version with quirks and a worse low rank beginning
still pretty great, and best sns too
also i'm drunk but yeah, it's good
> no weapon tree. have to look up online if you want to make a specific monsters weapon.
>gathering picks up random things instead of being able to target specific plants
>can't see little things while crafting weapons like gunlance shelling
just off the top of my head
Frontier had the "take all rewards" button first and the items have never been an issue for me because you can just buy them in bulk when there's a sale. You don't even have to worry about those in GU if you play as a cat. I prefer the old style of gathering too, it's much more satisfying.
Seething mentally ill child
It was on sale recently
Is 4U even worth playing if I’ve played Freedom Unite, 3U, Gen Ultimate, and World? My favorite thing about starting new monster hunter games is fighting new monsters but I feel like I’ve already fought most of them in Gen Ultimate. Either way I already own the game so I’ll probably play it anyway
>these things and the item wheel are very big improvements
Lol what?
Personally I exhausted all of Iceborne and I upgraded my PC for it so now I can emulate Gen at 60fps 1440p. Years of having played World and none of the old games made me realize how I miss everything about the old games. The "Quality of Life" things added in World are literally nothing. Oh no I have to buy pickaxes and whetstones... woah.... game ruined... People complaining about any of that are just angry consolewar tards or something.
speaking of drinking I miss when Monster Hunter had funny weapons like this
Should I play Striker SnS or Valor LS?
I agree with the gathering part, I also think they should go back to making preparations before the hunt much more important. Being able to change and get everything in the middle of the quests removes the feeling of actually preparing for a hunt.
Adept SnS
Valor LS
Actually Striker
An inferior experience overall in terms of gameplay, graphics, sound design, interaction and qol features.
But theres more monsters and some features like the Combat Styles and Anime Super powers and such.
But honestly you will feel like absolute shit playing it after playing MHW, it just feels like an absolute clunky and laggy piece of shit.
How os Charge Blade in GU? It was my favourite weapon in World.
Yeah but it’s like almost always on sale. Idk maybe I’m thinking into it too much
>emulating Gen
This is the only monster hunter I almost exclusively play online with other people. I usually go at it solo in World or even in older games but there’s something about this one that feels so right playing with 4 people. Maybe it’s the flashy anime moves or the super comfy hub but I would be pretty bored doing this one all alone.
They really are, try playing the older games again. These little things always add up when playing, also being able to traverse each area in the map without loading screens are a very big qol
The weapon tree is kind of shit since you can't see ahead in it, so I'd rather just get a more comprehensive list online. I'd barely call that a QoL improvement, but I guess it technically is one. Old gathering got you more items and you didn't have to pick them out while running through a busy map. Slowing down to grab every little thing feels awful, at least it used to be worth the commitment. Also, you could see everything about a weapon before you crafted it aside from how it looked in other forms. Not sure what you mean there.
Gore magala is worth playing the game imo.
Not him but I've been trying Valor LS and I still don't get the fucking window timing. Is it like 3 frames and immediately after I press or is there an animation delay and then the counter frames start? I still can't do it very much
Who hosting? If you're not g rank I can whip together some HR equipment.
I don’t use it very often but it’s pretty fun and seems strong.
The lack of loading screens gave us less area variety, roaming monsters, scoutflies, the slinger, and shitty corridors between areas that manage to be worse than the zone transition borders.
Valor evade has a delay i think, it doesn't have the same tight timing as a roll. Playing valor dual blades rn
>These little things always add up when playing
Gotta disagree, and I never used the wheel in world because of how inaccurate it was on the DS4. Segmented zones are superior what world has.
Both
I played MHGU for around 150 hours and then put around 400 in World/Iceborne before trying to go back and play MHGU and damn.. why are the hitboxes so bad in it? Or are they just too big in MHW? I can’t tell but in MHGU when I do the hammer spin into a Wyvern and only like 1 hit connects it kinda just feels like shit. There’s been so many times I’ve saw my attacks CLIP THROUGH a monster and not do the hit animation. It’s a great game but damn it feels a little unpolished.
This is how I felt about World after playing the older games.
I think area variety and shitty corridors were just laziness like the weapon designs and had nothing to do with wether there were loading screens or not
Make a room.
But I’ve already hunted Magala so many times in Gen Ultimate
What weapon should I use with Valour style? I don’t really like long sword and I prefer other styles for Heavy Bowgun but I don’t really know what other weapons have good and fun Valour styles.
It doesn't get more QoL than having the information in game vs having to go outside the game for the information. I know you like GU I do to but try not to suck it's dick too hard.
Goddamnit why couldn’t you have been here when I needed you user. I’m already in bed about to go to sleep. I’ve never had the joy of playing classic MH with Yas Forums
It's the worst iteration of it due to no red shield charging in sword mode, a limp SAED with only a single explosion that's not worth the cost, and no going straight from guard points to AEDs, but the styles and arts do a lot for it to make up for that.
literally anything, shits stupid overpowered
NPC cast maybe? I guess not. No reason then
The information presented in-game is insufficient and gives people less incentive to figure it out for themselves and create useful resources like what we had in the past. I would agree with you if they did a better job at it.
It's not instant, it's a little after you start the animation like you said.
The phone apps are better than anything in world or GU so its completely irrelevant
>Areas of the map are instanced and if the monster pushes you 1cm over the boundary or if you are mounter and the monster touches the boundary you are teleported to an entire new area
I'm never ever fucking going back to that stupid piece of shit game, fuck you and fuck your shitty console full of limitations
it works just like the old games, you wont' see weapon upgrades/crafts until you get enough key parts for it
the tree system in World is by far better
How would you implement maps that let you climb a mountain like the Deserted Island or Ruined Pinnacle then? Would you make these already-bloated maps even more annoying to trek through? We got a bit of that in the Coral Highlands and it was terrible.
So it's.... not QoL because people make up for it on the internet?
Yian Garuga is a bitch and a bully. That is all.
It depends on the monster, some have hitboxes that are too good like Astalos and it makes it harder for the monster to actual hit you with them. Also, positioning is much more important in the older games so you might just not be used to your hammer's range yet. I can't say I've seen weapons clipping through monsters with no damage before, so maybe it was just a weird weapon model; what hammer/monster was it? I want to keep an eye out for it the next time I hunt one
>monsters scaled for 4 players even if you play solo
Nope
>console
Started playing this for the first time last week. I had to take a break because I didnt know which quests were key quests and clocked in like 40+hours doing every quest up to 3* and kinda got burned out/wasnt progressing in equipment upgrade.
Thinking of going online for a few matches. People still onthere?
I said it was technically QoL, it's just shitty QoL.
>mfw Deadeye Yian Garuga and Rajang Hunt
Probably wasn’t a good idea to jump into that one after taking such a long break from this game. World has made me weak.
I wouldn't say "by far", but it is a little better. If it wasn't there though, I would have just looked up the tree online and not wasted as much time on that game's awful weapon designs.
The online is surprisingly more active than ever right now. Anyone know if there is still anyone on 3U on the Wii U? Last time I played was a couple years ago and there was barely 100 people
That's not my job so I wouldn't know but I'm sure it's possible. Use the same zipline in coral highlands but vertical or some shit. Capcom is just being lazy and retarded.
Well by your logic you can't say the weapon designs in world are bad because mods make them better.
yeah pretty much
Fuck off. Going too far with QoL shit didn't do anything good for World.
XX does have an awful grind through, which is why OP should be playing 4U and not this piece of trash.
I think I was using the Hidden Breaker(Nargacuga) hammer against Valstraax, but that was just today
That's a stretch, the modded-in weapons don't look great with World's pseudorealism either.
No that's entirely different
>awful grind
What do you mean? How is it different in XX than other games?
Enlighten me
Because we weren't talking about modding the game
Fucking brilliant
