There's nothing wrong with the loot system other than the fact that difficulty has to be exponential ramped up to compensate for build optimization to the point that everything is cheese.

If they kept the same system but culled a lot of the gear stats and made gear just a little less important then it wouldn't have been a problem. And even when it was a problem, it took like 4 playthroughs to reach WotW when the difficulty scaling finally got fucked up.

I don't even know what's actually DLC and what was original end game. I beat Orochi and I've got some Divine equipment now. I'm using the Red Demon set which I've got 3/5 of the armor at divine and I have the spear for the set at Divine +2. Do I do the sub missions on Way of the Samurai difficulty or head into Way of the Strong?

Probably yes but it doesn't matter for me personally. I played through the first game without online because I was poor, same now for the sequel.

I know we can edit our character any time but wasn't sure if we can change gender or choose another character during the playthrough.

Nioh 2 is better then any Souls game if the betas are any mirror to the full game. Nioh 1s biggest issue was enemy variety and that seems fixed with 2 games worth to work with and the bosses we've fought so far are barely matched by the best Souls shit has to offer let alone what the best Nioh 2 bosses will offer.
