The fact that all those celebrities from around the world have been tested, and many positive, shows the obvious truth that many people have had the coronavirus (or rather _a_ coronavirus), for the simple reason that at any point most humans carry viruses and other microbes, most of the time asymptomatic or with benign symptoms.
But because we now have this particular test, many cases are being reported as 'new'. So far there is no particular evidence that there is a specific increase in mortality. People aged 85, 90 die but that's happening all the time.
What's more likely is that this winter (north hemisphere) there is one strain that is probably worse than in previous years, but that's about it.
